[2010.12.31] CHOW YUN FAT'S ACTING IMPROVES

courtesy of singtao.com

The Jiang Wen, Chow Yun Fat, Ge You, Carina Lau Ka Ling starred Emperor new film LET THE BULLETS FLY has already broken 400 million at the Mainland box office. Many of the famous lines came from Ge You, like "Women you don't want, money you don't want, what do you want?", "Is this necessary?", "Do you want to kill me or sleep with me?". They left the audience applauding and laughing and became trendy slangs for young people.

Aside from Ge You's golden lines, director Jiang Wen's dark humor was also a big selling point. The rare "acting battle" between Chow Yun Fat, Ge You and Jiang Wen was of course another. Even Fat Gor himself joked, "I never thought that I would have such a chance to work with them, I am also very happy to be able to have the exchange with them and make a movie together." Fat Gor felt that working with such high quality actors improved his own acting. He honestly said, "With actors of this class acting with me, everyone is like playing soccer, when they pass to me, I pass the same way back to them."

Fat Gor also pointed out that his character not only gave his two co-stars but also himself a lot of pressure. He explained, "In the story, Jiang Wen and Ge You swindle money out of me. I had to use different ways to protect my family wealth and property very well. So in the character I stand directly opposite the two of them." However Fat Gor was very happy about this film, he said that the process was very enjoyable.

Anita Mui Yim Fong passed away 7 years ago. Her fan club last night on the roof of the Fringe Club held a "TONIGHT ONLY BECAUSE OF YOU 2010" memorial event. On display were Ah Mui's film stills and her films. Over 100 fans from Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Japan attended. Before the ceremony began, they held a moment of silence.

Elsa said that her fan club continued her charity work and later will donate 200,000 yuan to Mainland school construction.

[2010.12.31] HUANG YI FOCUSES ON HER ACTING WITH MORE EXPERIENCE

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Huang Yi in the film THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED (YUT LO YAU NEI) played a pregnant wife whose husband died at the hands of truck driver Louis Koo Tin Lok. Later she and Goo Jai met and developed the story. When Huang Yi took the role she was at a low point in her personal
life as she was dealing with her divorce. Because she had some experience, she was reminded of a lot. She said that if she took the film ten years ago she might not be able to play this character. She felt that love was Heaven granted, life has more than romance but also family and friendship. For now work came first for her.

Speaking of her view on love, Huang Yi said that she was full of hope in life and love. As for lightning weddings, she felt that time was not a factor. Short time did not mean poor result, and long time did not mean people would be together. Finally it depended on their destiny. She
pointed out that the different stages of her life needed different times, now she remained very sensible about love. However her experience helped with her acting and made her more mature. As for the most memorable scene, she said, "In one scene I couldn't stop crying because it was an emotional release." She also said that her co-star Goo Jai worked very hard on his Putonghua. On and off the camera he worked hard and was focused, his sincerity touched her.

Director Derek Chiu Sung Kei said that ten years ago he worked with Goo Jai on SEALED WITH A KISS (TIM YIN MUK YU). At the time Goo Jai did not speak. Ten years ago they ran into each other again, he thought that his acting was truly looking for change as he did not make anyone feel he was an idol. As for Goo Jai's poor Putonghua, he said that this character was a commuting drivers so his Putonghua might not have to be fluent. Since the story began with an accident, it reminded many of the producer Derek Yee Tung Sing directed LOST IN TIME (MONG BUT LIU). He said that if Chiu Sung Kei did not ask to work with him, no one would make such a connection. He pointed out that people who created the story often did not know, the stories had to be shown to someone else in order for the similarity to appear. This time the story changed and was not the usual ending.

[2010.12.31] TWINS DELIVER ANDY LAU'S AWARD IN PERSON

The Metro Hit Award took place two nights ago. Andy Lau Tak Wa won the Global Hit Most Popular Best Singer but since he was performing his concert he could not attend. His star fans Twins actually delivered the award to him, which was quite a pleasant surprise for Wa Jai.

The Andy Lau Unforgettable Concert two nights ago continued at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Aside from the exceptional guests Louie Castro (Ga Si Lok) and Sally Yeh (Yip Sin Man), twos nights ago he invited two groups, Twins and at17. Twins even had a surprise. After Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin and Gillian Chung Yun Tung attended the Metro Hit Award they rushed to the Hong Kong Coliseum and secretly brought Wa Jai's Global Hit Most Popular Best Singer award.

Wa Jai was sentimental when he introduced Twins. "I watched them start in the beginning, they are a lot like me. We both had ups and downs, every time I was down I would receive their comforting text messages." Twins then appeared with Wa Jai's award and Wa Jai was very surprised. "I don't have to attend to get the award?" Ah Sa and Ah Gil not only won Wa Jai over with their action but also said that they were super Wa Jai fans and fan club members. However Wa Jai revealed that they rarely participated in fan club events. Twins joked, "We are permanent honoary members!"

The other girl group at17 appeared during encore and even rocked the Hong Kong Coliseum with Wa Jai as they performed I HATE MY FAITHFUL HEART. Wa Jai said that now music needed new blood like them. To help the younger generation, Wa Jai promised to be their concert guest in the future.

courtesy of mingpao.com

Tony Leung Chiu Wai two days ago after promoting THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) in Beijing returned to Hong Kong yesterday. He revealed that he will return to the Mainland later to continue the shoot and believed that he will not have any time off until the Lunar New
Year.

Wai Jai was in good spirits and full of smiles. He said, "Maybe it's because of this GRANDMASTER hair cut." His earlier injury has now basically healed, but during action scenes he would be even more cautious as he did not want to be injured again.

Recently TVB aired his old series SOLDIER OF FORTUNE (HEUNG SING LONG JI). He did not look much different than he does now. Wai Jai felt unnaturally and laughed awkwardly. His performance seemed very tense then. Wai Jai joked, "It was my first series, I had to be more serious!"

This year's first music industry report card the Metro Hit Award 2010 took place last night at the Convention Center. Eason Chan Yik Shun had five and a half awards, Joey Yung Cho Yi had five, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa had four, Kay Tse On Kay, Hins Cheung King Hin, Andy Hui Chi On and Denise Ho Wan Si each had three, Raymond Lam Fung only had one. As for record companies, East Asia was the big winner with 23 awards, Universal had 22 and a half, and Emperor had 22.

As the year's first music award, not all the singers attended. For example Leo Ku Kui Ke and Lam Fung were absent due to work. However many top singers like Chan Yik Shun, Yung Cho Yi, Yeung Chin Wa and Tse On Kay dressed up for the event. The event also as usual arranged for a group photo of the singers. In the first row Yung Cho Yi stood next to her good friend Ho Wan Si, William Chan Wai Ting was behind girlfriend Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin. Tse On Kay who was in a long gown received a hand from rival Joey when she left the stage. The sexiest should Sherman Chung Shu Man who wore a red strap dresses. She and her company colleague Vincy Chan (Wing Yi) both dressed up.

The host Bob asked William if his girlfriend Ah Sa won what would he say to her? William declared his love to her and said "I love you", leaving everyone there amazed. Ah Sa sweetly smiled and bowed, saying "Thank you!" In addition, the event claimed that back then VRF's award went to its manager, so last night they presented a make up 2001 Metro Hit Group Award to one of VRF's members, Real Ting Chi Ko and arranged for his wife Chin Wa to accept it on his behalf. Chin Wa could not help but said, "Wow! I am speechless!" Chan Yik Shun who was rumored to be replaced with Cheung King Hin as the winner of the Commercial Radio Award Male Singer because he would not extend his Universal contract was asked about this year's award show gossips, he only stared at the ceiling and made faces. Then he explained, "I didn't get enough sleep, I wanted to rest a little. Now I have four bags under my eyes, I don't want to talk so much!"

Andy Lau Tak Wa two nights ago performed the 9th show of his concert series at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Two nights ago Wa Jai's guest was Kelly Chen Wai Lam. Wa Jai was rather daring when he introduced Kelly and joked that this beauty was the only woman who has been in the same bathtub as him. When Chen Wai Lam appeared, Wa Jai lovingly hummed, "I think I don't love you enough!"

After Chen Wai Lam was on stage, Wa Jai praised Kelly's figure. Then Wa Jai hoped that Kelly would accept the applause and the cheer of 12,000 people. "Today I invited you here, hoping that you in front of everyone can say a few good things about me." Kelly joked, "Good things? This concert alone isn't long enough for me to finish. Do I keep talking even though I can't go home tonight?" Wa Jai joked, "Don't worry, we have plenty of time." Kelly said that Wa Jai was great at everything in his 30 years in the business, but one thing she was a little better than Wa Jai at. Wa Jai said, "Aside from having a baby, what else are you better than me at?" Kelly said raising a son. Wa Jai said, "You are good at raising a son, I am good at raising a girl, hahaha!" Kelly asked, "Raising a girl? Let's make it clear! If you really have a girl, I immediately tell 'Shrimp Dumling Kid' to pursue your girl; but if you have a son, then I immediately try for a daughter."

Wa Jai said, "No, mine can pursue your son. When will you try for a daughter to show me? I thought your son is already this handsome, if you have a daughter......I would keep up (my looks) no matter what, then pursue your daughter." Kelly said, "If I have a daughter she will pursue your son because all he needs is to inherit one thing from me. The faithfulness alone is already extremely rare in the world. This type of men is already extinct." What Kelly said scared Wa Jai backstage as he screamed, "Ladies and gentlemen, Chen Wai Lam!" Kelly said, "He left before I even finished talking. Today originally I thought it was Wa Jai's 30th anniversary I would dedicate BIG DAY to him; but he said he really wanted to hear this song, so I rehearsed this song STAR."

[2010.12.30] JULIAN LAM DENIES PREGNANCY RUMOR

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Anke Bui On Kei, and Ana R. yesterday went to The One to attend a Lancome all new beauty counter unveiling ceremony. Chi Lam revealed that after his March concert in Hong Kong he will begin a tour. He still had to work on the film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) and release a record, so next year he will be busy. As for the production progress of GRAND, he only said, "I don't know at all, everyday is filled of freshness and anticipation." He also said that for the film he also learned an art for several months. He believed it will be very useful.

Speaking of a magazine's claim that Anita Yuen Wing Yi was pregnant, Chi Lam denied it instantly and said that if his wife truly was pregnant he would notify everyone. This was something joyous and did not need to be hidden.

[2010.12.30] WILLIAM CHAN APPRECIATES GILLIAN CHUNG'S GOOD INTENTION

courtesy of takungpao.com

Gillian Chung Yun Tung, William Chan Wai Ting, and Michelle Wai (Si Nga) starred EX (CHIN DOH) today released its Cantonese version all over the Guangdong province. Earlier the film held a press conference in Guangdong.

The leads were very excited that the film was able to be released in the Guangdong province. Ah Gil very tensely said that the film company fought for a long time before the successful Mainland release. Now seeing it coming to fruition everyone was very excited. Si Nga honestly said that it was his first time working in Guangdong. She was very happy to see how passionate fans were and she was left with a beautiful and memorable impression. She said that she has been in the business for only two years, she already ran into many good characters and she felt very lucky. She joked that this was a rare work to work with two elders abroad and she would properly learn from them.

Several creators rushed through several cinemas, during which cinema owners presented "wheat" as a gift, which meant big hit for the film. Fans asked whether Chan Wai Ting felt embarrassed to always been topless and in shorts, William honestly said that from the beginning to the end he felt that way, but as an actor he definitely could not show it. As for the production, Ah Gil revealed that in the tub scene the team did not prepare swimwear for William, Ah Gil wanted to loan him her own. William said that he was very appreciative but could not accept her good intention!

[2010.12.30] WILLIAM CHAN AND JACKY HEUNG LOOK TOO SIMILIAR

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) will be released next week. William Chan Wai Ting and Jacky Heung Jor played the same character in the film. They looked very similar in the film. During the shoot even Mrs. Heung who visited the set almost could not tell which one was her son.

Director Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung said that as early as when the script was being written, he already had Chan Wai Ting and Heung Jor in mind. He said, "This story was 12 years apart, we thought that it had to be convincing for the audience." Although Chan Wai Ting and Heung Jor did not have any scene together, during the shoot when Chan Wai Ting was meeting Kit Chan Kit Yi Heung Jor visited the set in his costume. During break they sat across from each other and they looked like Photoshop clones; at the request of the crew, Chan Wai Ting and Heung Jor posed for many photos. After looking at them, they too thought they resembled each other a lot as if they were long lost twins.

Tsang Kwok Cheung said, "Once Mrs. Heung visited the set. On the way out she quietly said to me that Chan Wai Ting looked just like Heung Jor. She couldn't tell which one was her own son!"

[2010.12.30] LOUIS KOO ALMOST LOSES AN EYE

courtesy of mingpao.com

courtesy of takungpao.com

THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED (YUT LO YAU NEI) tomorrow will be released in the Mainland. Two days ago a press conference was held in Beijing. It happened to be producer Derek Yee Tung Sing's birthday. Director Derek Chiu Sung Kei, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Karen Mok Man Wai, and Huang Yi secretly prepared a birthday cake, which was quite a pleasant surprise for him.

Ten years ago, Koo Tin Lok worked with Chiu Sung Kei on SEALED WITH A KISS (TIM YIN MUK YU). Ten years later, they worked together on THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED. Chiu Sung Kei said, "When Goo Jai worked on my movie, he still wasn't famous. Now he is already completely different, but his personality is just as good." He also praised Mok Man Wai's
performance as intimate and natural, which made Mok Man Wai a little emotional. Huang Yi hoped that everyone would be able to see a different Huang Yi.

Goo Jai took a gang beating in the film. Fake blood got into his eye but he still insisted on waiting until the director yelled cut before washing his eyes. He was very professional. He recalled, "In that scene a group of thugs beat me up very severely, I had a head full of rather deep wounds so a lot of blood was used. One of the make up between the temple and the cheek was closer to the eye so the more I moved the more blood got into my eye. The blood was not only irritating but also hurt so much that I could hardly open my eye. That eye at the time could not see anything at all, I could only rely on one eye to see everything around me." When asked why he did not stop the shoot to wash his eye. Goo Jai joked, "I was afraid that the second take would be the same, I might as well make this take well. I didn't want to suffer one more time."

Koo Tin Lok became a new generation film king. From the beginning of 2011 to the Lunar New Year slot he starred in many films like the upcoming THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED and the later MR. AND MRS. INCREDIBLES and ALL'S WELL ENDS WELLS 2011 (JUI KEUNG HEI SI).

In ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2011, Goo Jai changed his image to play a sissy make up artist and team up with Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi to grab the Lunar New Year box office. Actually they have already worked together six times so they got along well. In the film Goo Jai played make up artist Shum Mei who could not help himself but fall for assistant Cheung Pak Chi. Playing a sissy this time, Goo Jai thought it was quite refreshing. In addition Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing and Leon Lai Ming also played similar characters, it was a challenge from an actor to play a diva so it was very interesting. Goo Jai hoped to play a mental patient next time because playing more in depth characters was good for him.

Louis Koo Tin Lok, Huang Yi, and Karen Mok Man Wai starred film THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED (YUT LO YAU NEI) yesterday held a premiere press conference in Beijing. It happened to be producer Derek Yee Tung Sing's birthday, everyone secretly prepared a cake to surprise him with. Yee Tung Sing said, "I never thought that everyone would remember my
birthday, it's as warm as THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED's story."

Yee Tung Sing described THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED as LOST IN TIME (MONG BUT LIU)'s sister chapter. Three leads did not have a naive love triangle but a delicate relationship that was very touching. It hoped to give everyone a taste change in the fiercely competitive holiday slots. Director Derek Chiu Sung Kei worked with Koo Tin Lok again, ten years after SEALED WITH A KISS (TIM YIN MUK YU). He said, "Goo Jai's personality remained good, what changed was he asked more of himself. He provided a lot of constructive opinions."

Once distributed over 1,000 films, the Sil-Metropole Organization celebrated its 60th anniversary with an even last night in Beijing. Many film professionals attended. Most of the attention went to the Wong Kar Wai directed THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s cast including Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Benshan, Chang Chen, Song Hye-Kyo, Xiao Shenyang and Wang Qingxiang, who rushed from the Guangdong set. The team presented an oild painting poster to the company.

The Hong Kong film representative group was enormous, with Sil-Metropole famous film professionals Zhang Xinyan, Zhu Hong, Pak Yan, Henry Fong Ping and Paw Hee Ching, Ann Hui On Wa, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Karen Mok Man Wai, Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Pang Ho Cheung, Gordon Chan Ka Seung, Ng See Yuen, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and others. Mainland representatives included host Zhang Guoli, Jia Zhangke, Siqin Gaowa and others. The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region director Li Gang also attended. At the event Sil-Metropole chief Song Dai looked back at the exciting history of
Sil-Metropole in the past 60s and announced Sil-Metropole's future developments and new ideas.

Around 5:30PM, guests began to arrive on the red carpet. Yet THE GRANDMASTERS cast did not enter through the red carpet. The banquet began at 6:15PM, the event showed THE GRANDMASTERS promotional film that did not have any scene from it at all. Host Zhang Guoli with his sunglasses on joked that this trailer was mysterious enough, after such a long shoot the trailer had no scene at all. Then actors Leung Chiu Wai, Song Hye-Kyo, Xiao Shenyang, Zhang Ziyi, Zhao Benshan, Wang Qingxiang appeared on stage.

Speaking of the fight scenes, Wai Jai said that he was not worried as he practiced for a long time. He practiced so many that his arm was broken at the hand of his mentor. Zhang Guoli joked that the scene of Wai Jai's arm being broken was not preserved, which truly was a regret for
Chinese film because it was worth a lot of money. The fight scene in the rain he said was very difficult and took all 30 days. Zhang Guoli joked that it only took 30 days, someone had to thank Wong Kar Wai. Normally it might take 3 months. Zhang Ziyi in the film played a martial art expert, Zhang Guoli praised her eight diagram palm in the snow scene was very pretty. Zhang Ziyi said that this scene was shot last winter. At the time workers joked that this shoot would not complete as they predicted whether they would have to shoot it again next year. Surprisingly they were right. She recalled the 30 degree below zero (Celsius) shoot environment as truly tough. Chang Chen played an eight diagram expert. For the film he trained two years but the training benefited him a lot. Even his health improved. Song Hye-Kyo in the film played Wai Jai's wife, but they did not stand together on the stage last night. Song Hye-Kyo joked that in the film she had to be with Wai Jai all the time in the film so she had to keep her distance. This was her first film shoot in China, she truly was pleased to be able to work with a group of such great actors. She thanked director Wong Kar Wai for his help, because at first she was not too used to it. Director Wong helped her a lot. Wong Kar Wai appeared in the end to pose for a group photo with the cast. Originally Zhang Guoli asked Wai Jai to make a kung fu pose but Wai Jai only had his hands in his pockets and played cool. He explained that he was dressed modernly so he made this pose. The actors finally sang a birthday song to celebrate Sil-Metropole's 60th year, but they looked somewhat embarrassed.

The Pang Ho Cheung produced LOVER's DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU) will be released in Beijing. Last night he came to celebrate. As for the upcoming LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) sequel and rumors that Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) joining the cast as the third party between Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, he said that the script was still being written and the cast has not been decided. He joked that if Ng Yin Cho joined he might play Yue Man Lok's third party. Their relationship development would be even funnier. What if Chin Wa became pregnant? He joked that whether she would work with a big belly like Anita Yuen Wing Yi did with PROTEGE (MOON TOH).
