Nick Cheung Ka Fai last year with the Emperor Motion Pictures film THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) won six Best Actor awards, but he still has not received the Asia Pacific Film Festival award. Thus he was in a hurry to "find the award"! That film's original team returned to make THE STOOL PIGEON (SIN YUN), in which Ka Fai and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung switched sides. Ka Fai was not afraid of having his thunder stolen as he was fully confident.
In 2009 Emperor Motion Pictures performed successfully. THE BEAST STALKER won Cheung Ka Fai six Best Actor awards. In addition, FOREVER ENTHRALLED (MUI LAN FONG) and distributions DEPARTURES and THE MESSAGE also swept many film industry awards. This year Emperor will continue to release over ten films with a total investment of several hundred million. They included Jackie Chan's LITTLE BIG SOLDIER, CHINESE ZODIAC, and TRIPLE TAP (CHEUNG WONG JI WONG), as well as THE BEAST STALKER's team's new film THE STOOL PIGEON.
Busy with the new film earlier, Ka Fai said that he still has not received THE BEAST STALKER's Asia Pacific Film Festival Best Actor award and hoped that he would receive it soon. Did he get a custom made shelf for the six awards? Ka Fai said that he did not. "I feel that after I won it, I would only treat it as a memory. I wouldn't deliberately put them on display. (Would you have any pressure making THE STOOL PIGEON as the six time Best Actor?) No, I use my usual approach to make movies and do what an actor is supposed to do. I won't think about others."
In the new film, Ka Fai and Tse Ting Fung switched sides. Did he feel as a villain Ting Fung would have an easier time stealing scenes? Ka Fai said, "Director (Dante) Lam Chiu Yin's script has no differentiation between good and evil. This time my character is even more challenging than last time, as he is very complicated inside. The character has more battle of wits but in the finale will be fighting hard. (Did you get hurt?) That's definite with action scenes. (Did your wife Esther Kwan Wing Ho's heart ache?) She expected it and didn't have any special reaction."
As for Emperor's numerous film investments, Ka Fai praised the boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing for being very daring. He hoped that the company will continue to march forward and make more quality films.
