Donnie Yen Chi Tan after a vacation in Canada earlier flew to Beijing in preparation for the October production of the 3D live action epic THE MONKEY KING and sat for the Monkey King costume fitting. That day happened to be his birthday. Although this year his family could not celebrate with him, it was just as memorable as all day a group of men felt him up from morning to night to put him in a full body cast. He spent hot and wet birthday.

This time Chi Tan's Monkey King make up already cost over US$1 million. Chi tan modeled for the image that day. In 12 hours he went through facial expression scanning, full body casting mold, image study and other complex processes. Even his teeth had to be measured for the special effect make up. Chi Tan expressed that the most painful part was having to stand for 30 minutes. He wore tight clothing inside while a cast was applied outside and made him immobile. He said, "The cast itself was already heavy and contained water, while waiting for it to dry I couldn't pick it all. I was hot and sweating all over, it's like carrying another person. It was very heavy and hurt my ankles." In order for Chi Tan to relax, everyone kept talking to him and jokingly asked him to tolerate it a little more because it was his birthday full body beauty treatment.

In order to play the Monkey King, Chi Tan made personal suggestions to producer Agan and even brought a comic book about the Monkey King for him. Chi Tan felt that the Monkey King should have a variety of expressions. When he was angry his hair should also change.
