Nick Cheung Ka Fai keeps in mind that co-productions have killed local actresses' opportunities. Thus for his directing debut in early June in Malaysia, he will cast Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and Carrie Ng Ka Lai in the film MENG LAN SUN GUNG. Yesterday a press conference took place. Cheung Ka Fai described Lau Sum Yau as "stunner wonder" and Ng Ka Lai as "sexy goddess". He even revealed that the film will have very complete bed scenes but he will not sell sex.
Lau Sum Yau was surprised to be described as "stunner wonder" and shocked that Cheung Ka Fai would consider this girl from Taiwan as a local actress. Ng Ka Lai in the film will play Ka Fai's mother. She agreed to perform not only to support Ka Fai's directing debut but also because Hong Kong film raised her. She should repay Hong Kong film.
Ng Ka Lai in the film will perform the Cantonese Opera gospel MU GUIYING TAKES COMMAND. She was not worried about the performance because she has performed Cantonese Opera in the Derek Yee Tung Sing directed C'EST LA VIE MON CHERI (SUN BUT LIU CHING). Later Ka Fai will arrange for her to study with a Cantonese Opera veteran. Instead she worried about the make up because it will keep her face from sweating. For a ghost film this film, she was worried that she would run into something "dirty". She said, "I have run into a ghost before. When I worked on Lam Ching Ying's costume ghost film I wore red to play a female ghost. Around 4AM when I went from make up to the set, I saw a woman in the exactly the same red costume pass by. No one else saw her. Even the director said that no double was hired. My hair is standing on its end even now when I think about it."
