Carina Lau Ka Ling in the film BENDS (GOR GAI) played a rich wife Anna who has always relied on her husband. When her husband suddenly vanished her finances were frozen, leaving Anna anxious. Ka Ling pointed out that in real life she and Anna were not similar at all. She never relied on another half, feeling that women should not put all their hopes on men. Women needed to be more independent in order to have self confidence; otherwise they would be like Anna, collapsing after both spiritual and financial pillars were gone and having no sense of security. Director Flora Lau Wan Man praised Ka Ling as friendly and lacked the arrogance of stars. Ka Ling said that this was a misunderstanding of her looks, which gave people an impression that she was high above and distant. After being with her up close she was very easy to get along with. She said, "I am not a superstar, the halo, goddess and wall of popularity of a superstars are actually terms that people give me. I am just a regular person, I am still learning about how to live everyday and would make myself even more comfortable."
First time director Lau Wan Man admitted that she was very happy to land the Best Actress and Best Actor that she wanted, Lau Ka Ling and Chen Kun. At first she worried that they would have star arrogance and she was very nervous. After a few days together, she realized that they were very nice and friendly. Very professional and very quickly got into characters, they made all her pressure disappear.
