The Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced, directed and starred SAKRA (TIN LUNG BAK BO ji KIU FUNG JUEN) will be released on Mainland internet platforms for the Year of the Rabbit Lunar New Year. In Hong Kong it will be released on January 19th in theaters before the Lunar New Year. Yesterday its trailer was released. Chi Tan turned into Beggars' Gang leader Kiu Fung and battled one against a hundred with his Eighteen Dragon Taming Palms. With Chi Tan as the producer, director and actor, his Hong Kong Film Award winning team neglected and even reduced their rates to support him. Within the limited budget and production time they created a never before seen, spellbinding all new action world in an attempt to turn a new page for wuxia film.
Louis Cha (Jin Yong)'s DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS (TIN LUNG BAK BO) has been adapted many times into film and television work. Everyone is familiar with the characters and the story. This time Yen Chi Tan again adapted the story of Kiu Fung to the big screen, personally produced, directed and starred and even invited a group of Hong Kong Film ward winners to build the strongest team. They included this year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Cya Liu, and two time Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Kara Wai Ying Hung. The behind the scene line up was even stronger, with Hong Kong Film Award Best Action Choreographer Kenji Tanigaki, the Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Award Best Action Choreographer Yan Hua, Hong Kong Film Award Best Costume Designer Olympic Lau Sai Wan, Hong Kong Film Award Bes Film Editor Li Ka Wing, Hong Kong Film Award Best Cinematography nominee Chan Chi Ying and others.
When did he suddenly want to make a wuxia film? Chi Tan said, "After years of working on martial art and action films, in recent years I really wanted to be able to make a different costume wuxia world. Although this time would be an adaptation of Louis Cha (Jin Yong)'s DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS (TIN LUNG BAK BO), it would completely be the one that everyone has seen before. This time we hope to add new ideas and production techniques." Chi Tan pointed out that this production actually was not easy, but the entire production team was united. Everyone was willing to volunteer to reduce their rate and salary for this film, as they only hoped the movie its best. "This film actually was made under a lack of funding and very limited time and resources. The entire team worked for a long time in a poor and unsteady weather, but I fortunately still had the trust and the support of the entire team. No one cared about their salary; everyone worked 20 hours everyday to complete this project in order to make a different SAKRA, to bring a new wuxia film idea to the audience. I truly thank everyone very much."
