The Hong Kong film market has been weak in recent years, and the industry is constantly looking for a way out. The owner of a film and management company, Louis Koo Tin Lok has already established four "house rules" to help his artists explore new directions, to never just "sit around: and wait for opportunities. Among them, Ken Law Ho Ming, who has performed in WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI), met the standard and became the first artist to receive the company's support to film his own story!
Koo Tin Lok has been committed to promoting the film industry for many years and helping the industry find more solutions. He held a conference with his artists as early as 2018 to encourage everyone to actively develop their own stories. Ken Law Ho Ming had earlier completed an original story that he single-handedly produced. The planner, action director and actor's movie GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN) honestly was all because of Koo Tin Lok's encouragement. "It was probably around the time of the Lunar New Year in 2018, the boss (Koo Tin Lok) told us that as actors we should not so passive and wait for luck and the script to arrive -- be proactive; he ask us to try to write the story ourselves. The company will have a screenwriter team review it. If it is OK, he will support the production start, but there are 4 conditions that must be met. First: the script cannot be too expensive, the budget would be small and medium-sized; second: it must have action scenes to facilitate oversea sales; third: it must have positive energy, not too extreme and crazy; the fourth point is also the key point: how you can convince him, for an equal price movie ticket, to not watch a billion-dollar Hollywood production, but to watch your movie."
Precisely because of Koo Tin Lok's foresight, many of his artists have actively tried. Ken bluntly said that he submitted nearly 10 stories, and in the end only GOOD GAME successfully passed the test. However, getting the admission ticket did not mean the project was invincible. The subsequent script creation took a long time, but fortunately filming was successfully launched in 2023. He is still grateful to Koo Tin Lok for giving him the opportunity to become the first artist in the company to finish creating his own story.
It is not easy to make a good movie. The filming of the audience favorite TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JI JI WAI SING) had difficulties galore. Ken also has some connection with this film. He said, "I didn't know that the company was making this movie at the time. However, when I was working for the company on the movie INEXTERNAL (LUI YING OI HUP) as the action director, there was a shortage of Hong Kong stunt people. Because a foreign film starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and Tom Hardy invited a group of Hong Kong stunt people to help in the UK, Hong Kong had few stunt people left. By the time we started production, we found out that some on the team were helping train the actors for TWILIGHT, so the two films shared the same group of stunt people."
In addition, Koo Tin Lok's birthday is today. He held a celebration party in advance in Sha Tin with a 60 set banquet. There was a lion dance to add to the fun. A group of elders presented lai see to Goo Jai. Fans took turns to come on stage to take photos with the idol. The atmosphere was lively.
