Nicholas Tse Ting Fung in the film AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG) played a fire department chief, leading Shawn Yue Man Lok, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Hu Jun, William Chan Wai Ting to the fire. Before the shoot, the actors received the Hong Kong fire department's arrangement to learn firefighting knowledge and technique at the Pat Heung Fire Services Training School. The fire in the film took place in a distillery. The actors during the shoot had to wear the commonly called "golden armor" and a respirator to enter the smoke filled distillery.
Ting Fung as the captain was the first to enter the first. His experience was "Once inside you would feel how incredible firefighters are. Facing the black smoke in front of you, a type of fear grows inside you. I had a helpless feeling in a real fire, luckily I had ample training before hand." Yue Man Lok stated that this was the most difficult film that he has ever made. The director wanted realism and treated them like real firefighters. Everyday after the shoot he felt exhausted. He truly thought that firefighters should get a raise. Yam Tat Wa normally had more opportunity to fire a gun in films, this time he fired a fire hose. He said holding a hose was much tougher than holding a gun. He truly had to salute the firefighters.
