The 61st Golden Horse Awards Ceremony was held at the Taipei Pop Music Center last night. The 29-year-old Chung Suet Ying was nominated for the second consecutive years, beating DAUGHTER'S DAUGHTER's Sylvia Chang, LOVE LIES (NGOR TAM DIK NA CHEUNG LUEN OI)'s Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, ALL SHALL BE WeLL (CHUNG GUM YI HAU)'s Patra Au Ga Man, and YEN AND AI-LEE's Kimi Hsia to surprisingly win her first Best Actress Award. Also nominated for Best Actor with THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET), Neo Yau Hawk Sau did not win. Favorite Chang Chen of THE EMBERS did not neither as the award went to BEL AMI's mainland actor Zhang Zhiyong. Hong Kong media workers Chan Cheuk-sze and Kathy Wong Kei-yiu won the Best Documentary Short Film for COLOR IDEOLOGY SAMPLING.MOV. The Best Narrative Feature and Best Director went to mainland director Lou Ye for AN UNFINISHED FILM.

This year's Golden Horse Awards were held in the cold, but still attracted a large number of fans to watch. Zhang Zhiyong won the Best Actor award by beating the favorite Chang Chen with the movie BEL AMI, but he was unable to accept the award in person due to work. Director Geng Jun accepted the award and spoke on his behalf. "I am very grateful to the Golden Horse Awards, his family, and all the staff, and the director is my mentor and friend. I will continue to work hard and love everyone." Geng Jun added, "Zhang Zhiyong is my childhood friend, we were also wild children; once he picked up something out of curiosity and tried to study it, but his eyes and fingers were blown up. Fortunately the physique recovered well; but when he acted as a disabled actor, at first he was not confident. He often avoided his scars, then he finally found his own self-confidence. I told him, 'You are a very unique actor.'"

Chung Suet Ying did not win the Golden Horse Award last year with THE LYRICIST WANNABE (TIN CHI L), made a comeback this year and won the Best Actress for the first time with THE WAY WE TALK. She played a deaf person in the film, and through a cochlear implant she could communicate with others in spoken language. In order to adjust the way she spoke for the role, she learned the tone of the deaf person's speech and her outstanding acting skills have brought her the honor of Best Actress.

Chung Suet Ying took the stage to accept the award, got choked up and said, "I am a person who likes movies. Thank you to every participant, because you all are the people I have watched since I was a child. Because of your hard work, I fell in love with movies." Then she put down the Golden Horse award and said while signing, "Thank you to the friends who helped me with sign language. This is a story about the deaf people in Hong Kong, I couldn't have completed the film without your help. Also thank you to the team. In addition, when I didn't know if I could at the beginning, I would like to thank the people who were willing to believe in me, including (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu and (Gordon) Lam Ka Tung. It's a great honor to be nominated with such excellent actresses this year, and I will continue to work hard." She revealed that when she could not move during the shoot, she lay in the room but there was always a small ring of light in her heart to guide her. She hoped that people with similar experiences could press the small ring of light in their hearts and be led to their place of dream.

Hong Kong media workers Chan Cheuk-sze and Kathy Wong Kei-yiu won the Best Documentary Short Film for COLOR IDEOLOGY SAMPLING.MOV and the two were moved to tears. Chan Cheuk-sze said, "Our story is to find the light that belongs to the times in the darkness. I want to say to Wong Kei-yiu, thank you for always believing in me. This is our first step, we have to be each other's light, become our own light, be the light of others; we must go to places we have never thought of." Wong Kei-yiu thanked her family for their support, but said that he had not yet made any money, "Thank you to the news and politics for giving me the ability to think about change, thank you film for giving me the space to create. If a place no longer has color, it may be black and white, it may be monochrome; but perhaps we truly need to properly perserve the brightly colored memories of the past, we can perhaps have a little strength to hold on to the end of the light. I think this is the motivation for each of us to continue to create and move forward. Thank you everyone, Thank you Golden Horse Awards."

The late "Heroine" Cheng Pei-Pei was posthumously presented with the Lifetime Achievement Memorial Award, and her eldest daughter Eugenia Yuan Lai Kei, second daughter Jennifer Yuan, third daughter Marsha Yuan Chi Wai and the youngest son Harry Yuan Wor Yuk took the stage to receive the award from director Ang Lee. All of them shed tears as they remembered their mother. "This award is the achievement of our beloved mother Cheng Pei Pei. We are grateful to the Golden Horse Awards for presenting this award to our beloved mother, and we are especially honored to be able to receive this award from director Ang Lee on her behalf. If our mother is still here today, we four children would definitely accompany her here to witness this unforgettable moment, because we are all proud of our mother. Of course, in our eyes, she has already won the Lifetime Achievement Mother Award." Harry Yuan raised the award high and shouted, "Mama, this award is for you!"

Shek Ka-chun from Hong Kong created the Best Animated Short Film FATHER FIGURE based on his childhood experience with his father. He said that he knew that he has not performed well enough, but with everyone's encouragement he would continue to work hard.

Although Ng Kwan Yu did not win the Golden Horse Best Actress, she successfully "fattened herself" when she and the male god Greg Hsu Guang Han presented the Best Original Screenplay Award. She stared at Greg Hsu and claimed to have forgotten her lines, and added her own material to be funny. She asked if he has read the story of Snow White, in which the princess needed to be kissed by the prince to wake up. Greg Hsu cooperated and asked Kwan Yu: "Is it a kiss, is a cheat cut?" Then the two of them hilariously performed a cheat cut kiss, and afterwards Kwan Yu wiped her mouth and showed a satisfied expression. Then they were even addressed each other with "husband" and "wife". Kwan Yu was so happy that she laughed, all because she got yet another "husband". The audience burst into laughter.

Wu Kang-ren won the Golden Horse Best Actor last year with ABANG ADIK and previously said that he could not attend due to work; but he appeared at the last minute to present the Best Actress Award with the Best Actress last year, Audrey Lin. When introducing the nominated films, Wu Kang-ren introduced Chung Suet Ying in Cantonese and sign language.

Shih Ming-shuai won the "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in GATAO: LIKE FATHER LIKE SON. With his first nomination he fended off his fierce rival Lee Kang-sheng. After winning the award, he said, "I am a little too excited. I want to thank my imagination, without imagination I would not possibly be here." As for Yang Kuei-Mei, she won the "Best Supporting Actress" for YEN AND AI-LEE. She said, "I really don't dare to believe it. This year's nominees are all excellent actors, how can it be me? However I'm sorry, since the award is in my hands I would just help myself. Thank you to the jury for seeing a different Yang Kuei-Mei through this role." At the age of only 11, Feifei Cheng You-Fei won the "Best New Performer" for the movie "BIG". She burst into tears after hearing the news, and then she screamed and cried backstage to express her emotions and show her cuteness and innocence.

Competiting for Best Actress, Chang Aijia was absent from the Golden Horse Awards luncheon the day before yesterday because her mother fell. She rushed back to Hong Kong then rushed back to Taiwan yesterday. She admitted that she was a little from all the traveling. When asked about her mother's condition, she said, "She just had the operation. She is awake and is doing OK." Ang Lee specifically returned to Taiwan from the United States to support the show. When asked what he had to say to Taiwanese filmmakers, he said, "The environment is not like before, risk-taking and innovation are necessary. Let's all work together, especially the new generation of filmmakers; don't give up on your dreams, and keep a firm grip on the direction."
