Tony Leung Chiu Wai earlier while training for the soon to start production GRAND MASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) suffered a broken left arm. After a few days of rest at home, Wai Jai yesterday returned to work with a magazine photo shoot. Wai Jai expressed that right now his training has to stop completely until his arm naturally heals. Yet he still had a little fun at his own expense. He joked that right now he cannot move and can only play "dead" at home.
Since Wai Jai's injury, the press has been waiting outside his home. Yesterday Wai Jai finally returned. When Wai Jai got off his vehicle, his assistants were very nervous and reminded reporters not to bump into Wai Jai. When asked how his injury was, Wai Jai said, "OK. It will take four to six weeks to recover." Wai Jai pointed out that the bone had to grow back together before he could move.
Was Carina Lau Ka Ling very worried? Wai Jai said, "She has nothing to worry about. It's very normal, this is an action film." He pointed out that now his left arm could not move. Because one of two bones were broken he could not even turn his arm. As for treatment, he said, "It doesn't need treatment. It still hurts even after taking pain killers because it's broken. Now I take Chinese herbal medicine at night, during the day I can't move, like I am playing dead." Was he worried about hindering the production? Wai Jai said that he had no way to worry and it was beyond his control. Now he has to wait for the bone to heal. Was director Wong Kar Wai very understanding? Wai Jai joked, "If he isn't, what can he do?" As for going to the doctors again, Wai Jai said, "I have to wait for the broken bone to heal, for now there is nothing to see the doctor for. I have to wait four to six weeks. After it heals then we will take another x-ray on it. If it is truly healed then I can move again."
Wai Jai expressed that the photo shoot was originally scheduled for the 15th, but because the photographer had to go elsewhere the shoot took place yesterday. Because he could not move too much, he needed accommodation. The photographer did not want him to have too tough a time and quickly finished. As for when he would return to work, he said, "When it heals." He pointed out that now he cannot train because his arm still hurts. The pain will linger for several weeks. When it does not hurt then he can start with basic training like running. If it does not hurt then he can first train the lower half of his body. The upper half and arms have to wait.
