After UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) and TO THE FORE (POR FUNG), Eddie Peng Yu-Yan again worked with demon director Dante Lam Chiu Yin on the new film OPERATION MEKONG. This time he even sacrificed his good look to change the shape of his face with special make up. He also had to learn English, Thai and Burmese in order to play the character even more convincingly. No wonder Lam Chiu Yin joked that whenever he thought of highly difficult performance he would think of Peng Yu-Yan.
The Lam Chiu Yin directed, Peng Yu-Yan and Zhang Hanyu starred new film OPERATION MEKONG will open in October. Playing an undercover agent Peng Yu-Yan tossed away his sunny image for the first time and appeared in several thug look. He also did everything he could to get to the truth and to get into the center of the drug ring. Director Lam Chiu Yin said that the film took over 3 years to prepare. During research he already knew that this time would be very tough. Thus he wanted an actor with a lot of potential and not afraid of suffering. He said, "Not all actors would be willing to be crazy with me, but each time I asked Peng Yu-Yan to play some hard to swallow character he has been willing. Thus this time I thought him right away. He was definitely the first choice." He also felt that Peng Yu-Yan ahd many actor quality that he has not had the chance to show others. He hoped through OPERATION MEKONG to show the audience a never before seen Peng Yu-Yan.
Peng Yu-Yan thanked the director for his compliments. From UNBEATABLE, TO THE FORE, to this time they have already worked together three times. The demon director has been elevating his methods. Peng Yu-Yan in the film played an undercover agent and had to maintain his mysterious identity. He had to make different connections, so his image was ever changing. Aside from the general costume change and fake facial hair, he also used special make up to change the shape of his face. Peng Yu-Yan in order to bring this character to life put in a lot of effort. Before hand he studied English, Thai and Burmese in order to change him into just like a local. Peng Yu-Yan said that everything helped him with getting into the character easier. He said, "OPERATION MEKONG is very different from my previous films. The director designed many different appearances for me, make up, costume and environment would affect the mood. After getting into it the performance naturally would reflect the setting at the time." Another lead Zhang Hanyu also praised Peng Yu-Yan's performance. He said, "Peng Yu-Yan's performance has been great. He as an agent not only had to use his head but also his fists. He even had to use his emotions. With so many things on him, he was still able to fight shoulder to shoulder with me. That was very rare!"
