[2011.04.27] PETER CHAN SAYS PRODUCTION DELAY IS DUE TO SCRIPT CHANGES

courtesy of takungpao.com

Rumors about the Peter Chan Ho Sun produced new film THE FLYING GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) have surfaced, including the screenplay has not been approved, disputes between producer Chan Ho Sun and director Teddy Chan Tak Shun, director change with Andrew Lau Wai Keung, the production start delay to August and even possibly cast changes. Chan Ho Sun yesterday personally clarified and one of the lead actors Huang Xiaoming also gave Chan Ho Sun a vote of confidence. Even if the film was postponed, he was willing to keep waiting.

Chan Ho Sun said that the film indeed will delay its production start. As for director change, he also admitted that earlier before planning THE FLYING GUILLOTINES he indeed approached Lau Wai Keung. He said, "For collaborations I of course pick my closest friends, since we know each other so well. However at the time Lau Wai Keung had ten movies on hand, and Chan Tak Sum's schedule was the most suitable to the original production start time. Now that the production start has been postponed, and the main reason is we suddenly thought of an all new script direction. All the changes will depend on the progress of the script. Actor schedules may have to be arranged anew, but a good story truly doesn't have to worry about having no one."

Chan Tak Sum said, "The main reason is the script is still being changed. With all new elements, it is even more exciting than before. The screen writer (Aubrey) Lam Oi Wa has been working night and day, but ultimately the structural adjustments will require some time. Honestly, I am a little worried about the scheduling. With so many actor schedules having to change, the team's schedule is even harder to adjust. However I hope that we keep each other in mind in the end." Huang Xiaoming continued his support. "I haven't received any team change news, only a notice that filming has been postponed. I only have the word 'trust' in Director Chan Ho Sun."

As for the script's pending approval, promotional director Ms. Meng denied and said, "Our new script hasn't even been written yet, so it hasn't been sent for inspection. How can it not pass?" As for the dispute between Chan Ho Sun and Chan Tak Sum, Ms. Meng said, "Since the start of BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) they have been rumored to be at odds, after its completion they were rumored to be at odds again. During the Hong Kong Film Award celebration people still talked about it. As they worked together, they kept being rumored to be at odds. If they really were at odds, why would Chan Ho Sun ask Chan Tak Sum to make THE FLYING GUILLOTINES? Wouldn't he just be asking for trouble? Chan Tak Sum two days ago was still talking with Chan Ho Sun about the new script."

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai, Ciwi Lam Sze Man and director Oxide Pang Shun yesterday promoted their new film THE DETECTIVE 2 (B+ JING TAM). The event arranged for the live audience to make Sing Sing's poses on the posters. Sing Sing played along, brought back "Ah Tam" and chok the poster look to earn everyone's applause!

Sing Sing said that the film will first open in the Mainland on April 29, then on May 12 in Hong Kong. The film in order to enter the Mainland market removed the supernatural portion from its subject. The Mainland version would have have less bloody and violent scenes. Was he concerned about counterfeit? Sing Sing thought that the Mainland lifestyle was already very different as many people liked to go to the movies. However, Sing Sing ended up competing with himself as LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI), his new film with Zhang Ziyi, will open as well. Since the movies' genres would be different, Sing Sing would not worry too much.

Reportedly today Sing Sing would attend a new store opening with his rumored girlfriend Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) for the first time, but Sing Sing said that he would leave Hong Kong at night to promote his Beijing concert. Thus he would have to miss the event, which he was very sorry about. The boss was his good friend and he originally thought that he would be able to make an appearance. Reporters joked that he could ask Lynn to represent him. Sing Sing thought that she could not and did not know for sure whether she would appear. Did he mind working as a couple? Sing Sing first said that they could not be called a couple. Reporters reacted and asked whether they should be called husband and wife instead? Sing Sing hinted, "In show business work is work, no one knows what will happen in the future. Even after marriage people can still work together. If my wife is in the business I don't mind. (If she is Lynn?) I don't mind." Sing Sing thought that now is different, just that he would never talk about his own personal life.

Speaking of recently Lynn was reported as having a brain tumor. Sing Sing thought that people who spread the gossip said that they were married, after clarification was made they realized that they had nothing to talk about so they switched to write about disease. Sing Sing thought that writing about other people's health was truly wrong; was he angry? Sing Sing said, "It's excessive! Some unhealthy magazines should examine their own ethics. When I came back to Hong Kong paparazzi asked me about it, when I heard I only smiled. You know how easy going I usually am, should I have reacted? (Are you aware of Lynn's health?) You see how healthy she is first! (You care very much about her?) I care about my friends."

As for Max Mok Siu Chung's arrest, Sing Sing revealed that over 20 years ago they worked together on his first series. How could he possibly not worried? However no matter what happened, anyone who made a mistake should admit it. Since he was an adult he really what he should do. Sing Sing continued, "When I knew him I was still a kid, but I already thought he had a lot of potential. I hope he will be fine soon. Whether an artist or an actor, everyone should lead a clean and honest life!"

[2011.04.26] NEW FILM SAVES ZHANG ZIYI

courtesy of takungpao.com

The film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI)'s sister film, the anti AIDS discrimination documentary, TOGETHER, held a global online premiere earlier. TOGETHER and LOVE FOR LIFE director Gu Changwei and stars Zhang Ziyi and Jiang Wenli attended the press conference. The AIDS patients who bravely performed in TOGETHER also attended.

Speaking of LOVE FOR LIFE, Zhang Ziyi pointed out that the character saved her as the film was very meaningful to her. She said, "The director gave me a window and let this character save me." Ziyi said that she had too many emotions that she had no way to express, but this character struggled along with her, faced the complicated conflicts of life and gave her another life. She said, "This was no ordinary character."

In TOGETHER, the filmmakers had a lot of close contact with AIDS patients. Zhang Ziyi even brought her visiting niece to play games with a boy with AIDS, filling the documentary with warmth. Zhang Ziyi said that this group brought her a lot of feelings. She was very touched to see how strong they were. They also brought her a lot of joy like friends. Ziyi also urged the community to be like their team and accept people with AIDS.

In addition, Feng Xiaogang, Jiang Wen and Lu Chuen guest starred in LOVE FOR LIFE. Which asked which director performed the best, Ziyi said that nothing needed to be said about Jiang Wen. His foul mouth train operator was very exciting. To her, Gu Changwei gave Xiaogang a particularly rare character to play. The performance was rare but was finally cut, which truly was regrettable.

[2011.04.26] JOHN WOO PREPARED FOR CHINESE TITANIC

John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) earlier revealed at a Beijing forum that he will make a war film TAI PING LUN (originally titled 1949) about the famous "Chinese Titanic" Taiping. "The Taiping Incident" occurred in January 1949, the Taiping cross strait steamer due to exceeding maximum capacity and the lack of navigational lights while traveling at night sunk. Nearly 1,000 of the rich and the famous died. The incident had enormous effect back then. Coincidentally, the owner of the Taiping was the current top Taiwan host Kevin Tsai Kang-yung's father.

After the sinking of the Taiping, the Shanghai court sentenced the steamer company to make compensations. However due to the war, Shanghai's soon liberation, the astronomical compensation figure, and the immediate closing of the Taiping's insurance company, the steamer company had to make the compensation on its own. Finally the company closed. Its two remaining steamers were chained up in the Kaohsiung harbor and finally were left to completely rust and rot. The matter also ended without any resolution. Tsai Kang-yung recalled how creditors went after his father and made his father finally becoming a lawyer who "sympathized with the employer".

TAI was prepared for production two to three years ago and confirmed to star Song Hye-Kyo and Chang Chen, but later due to copyright issues, financing falling through and other reasons it was postponed. Since the project was brought up again, Ng Yu Sum was rumored to continue negotiation with Song Hye-Kyo and Chang Chen. Ng Yu Sum admitted, "They indeed are two actors in THE TAIPING." As for FLYING TIGERS, which Ng Yu Sum has prepared for years, it has not been abandoned due to THE TAIPING. FLYING will start work in 2012 and Liu Ye has already been confirmed.

Ng Yu Sum said that reliance on computer special effects "raised lazy" directors and that Mainland film subject rush has become the trend. He said, "Everyone flocks to the same film subject, at the same time there are four Flying Tigers, three Guan Yunchang and three Sun Wukong. How much money and manpower do they take? If several movies have similar stories, the audience would feel they are copying each other. In the end no one wins." He said that in Hollywood if a subject clash occurs, someone would drop out and provide their experience to the people who are working on the film. They help and include each other.

Ng Yu Sum criticized the Mainland film industry for not being united. Earlier when he made RED CLIFF many waited to see if his movie would die. Thus when his movie went over budget, he would rather put in his own money to keep it going.
