The Nick Cheung Ka Fai directed and starred in the new film PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG) became the closing film of the 7th Malaysian International Film Festival (MIFFest). He was also awarded the "Award for Excellent Achievement in Film" in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the film industry. Cheung Ka Fai went to Kuala Lumpur to attend the awards ceremony two days ago, and was welcomed by movie fans while walking on the red carpet. When receiving the award, he thanked the event for its recognition of his film career and thanked the fans for their continuing support and love. "I feel that this award has given me an even deeper encouragement. I have won some actor awards in the past, but this "Award for Excellent Achievement in Film" includes the festival's encouragement for me as a director and confirms that I love movies."

Cheung Ka Fai believed that this award had special significance because his first directorial work, the 2014 film release HUNGRY GHOST RITUAL (MAN LAN SUN GUNG), was co-produced with Malaysian filmmakers and shot there. However, he said that his earliest connection with Malaysia was in the video era, "My earliest visit to Malaysia was when I was either an ATV or TVB artist. We often came here to promote video companies and promote TV series."

Cheung Ka Fai had a busy schedule in Malaysia. As soon as he landed, he accepted interviews from local media, participated in the handprint ceremony of the film festival, and then attended the event's "Hong Kong Night". The attendees included Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, who won the "Lifetime Achievement Award"; Malaysian goddesses Lim Ming Chen, Philip Keung Ho Man, Ben Yuen Fu Wah, directors Felix Chong Man Keung, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, etc., everyone took the opportunity to communicate. Lin Mingchen, who has recently been rumored to be having an affair with Edan Lui Cheuk On, shared photos with Hirokazu Kore-eda, Cheung Ka Fai, etc. on social platforms and posted that she could finally take beautiful photos with her idol, director Hirokazu Kore-eda as well as Big Brother Cheung Ka Fai. She described the evening as a star-chasing night. Someone commented and asked, "Is Edan there?"

Taiwanese actor Wu Kang-Ren won the Golden Global Award for best actor for his starring role in ABANG ADIK. He was absent due to work. Jack Tan won the Best Supporting Actor in the same film. When accepting the award, he expressed that he was very surprised and thanked those who liked this movie.

[2024.07.23] "LOVE" COMES EASY FOR JACKY CHEUNG AND KARENA LAM

Hok Yau jokes that if the director does not cut the camera, many unimaginable things would happen!
courtesy of singtao.com

Jacky Cheung Hok Yau returned to the big screen after eight years and starred in the Emperor Motion Picture CUSTOMS FRONTLINE (HOI GUAN JIN SIN). He and his long-time partner, Karena Lam Ka Yan, played a couple again, and they were very comfortable with it. The director even wanted Hok Yau and Ka Yan to express themselves freely, but Hok Yau stopped him. He joked that if the director did not cut the cameras, a lot of unimaginable things would continue!

Hok Yau and Ka Yan took the time to catch up before they took their marks, and were then interviewed one after another. Ka Yan acted coquettishly and complained that her good partner Hok Yau often brought up the past. In the film, Hok Yau plays the role of customs officer Cheung Won Nam, while Ka Yan plays the higher-ranking Assistant Commissioner of Customs. The couple's relationship was one where men were inferior and women were superior. The man sometimes scolded the woman out of self pity, and Hok Yau even has to perform scenes in which he got upset and cursed. Even Ka Yan was frightened by him. However, their scenes together were concentrated in heartwarming scenes. When they took their places that they would "automatically" embrace each other head to head. When director Herman Yau Lai To stepped forward to direct, he would in the end find that the action this pair of good partner designed was the most natural. In the scene where Hok Yau was celebrating Ka Yan's birthday, they had to take selfies with their phones and look at the photos to make fun of each other. The two of them were immersed in their roles as if no one else was around, making Ka Yan laugh both inside and outside the scene.

In another scene, Hok Yau had to take good care of Ka Yan. The director originally planned to keep the camera on for a long time to let the two of them play freely. No one expected that Hok Yau would hilariously object. "No, if you don't cut and we keep acting, a lot of things will continue to happen incredibly, and unimaginable things will happen!" He cracked up the whole set. The two finished their scenes together that day, and Ka Yan was reluctant to leave. After the two hug each other goodbye, they joked, "Don't be so naughty!" The two immediately laughed.

Hok Yau and Ka Yan have collaborated in the films JULY RHAPSODY and HEAVEN IN THE DARK. When asked if they remembered when they first collaborated? Hok Yau answered excitedly, "The first time we worked together was in 1994, she was only a teenager then." Ka Yan immediately interrupted and said, "Don't say it anymore, every time I see him he says it, that he knew me when I was 18, haha!" Hok Yau was referring to Ka Yan's role as the lead in the music video for his classic hit "Love Letter". Ka Yan was only 18 years old at the time, and this was how their fate started. In the end, Hok Yau expressed his belief that he would collaborate with Ka Yan again soon, and even sang a classic song. "We will meet again that day..."

Dayo Wong Tze Wah and Michael Hui Koon Man collaborated again after 32 years, starring in the movie THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) that will be released on November 14. Director Anselm Chan Mou Yin worked with the cast and the crew to produce a THE LAST DANCE "theater etiquette film". In addition to Wong Tze Wah and Hui Koon Man, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Chu Pak Hong, Catherine Chau Ka Yee, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Rachel Leung Yung Ting and Chung Suet Ying performed together. The film will premiere on Emperor Cinemas tomorrow (24th).

Wong Tze Wah and Hui Koon Man entered the theater to watch their starring roles in THE LAST DANCE but encountered a problem audience played by other actors as they committed a series of inappropriate behaviors in the theater. First of all, Chung Suet Ying arrived late after the movie started, which affected the audience who arrived on time from watching the show; and then Chu Pak Hong and Leung Yung Ting took selfies with their mobile phones, blocking the view of Hui Koon Man behind them. Hui Koon Man had to gently remind them.

In addition, Chaua Ka Yee felt like she was in a deserted place and excitedly called her friends to share her chance encounter with Wong Tze Wah, but Wong Tze Wah kindly advised her to keep quiet. Appearing last were Kam Yin Ling and Wai Sze Nga, who play the roles of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in READY O/R ROT (BUT YUT SING FUN 2). This time the relationship between the two was no longer tense. They were busier "talking about the movie" than watching the movie. Kam Yinling even said "Big deal". Wong Tze Wah had to remind "mother-in-law and daughter-in-law" to lower the volume on their endless chatter. After being reminded by "theater etiquette masters" Wong Tze Wah and Hui Koon Man, everyone concentrated on watching the show.

Traditionally minded, she tried to have children with her husband, who already had one son. She experienced 8 pregnancies and 4 miscarriages, and finally gave birth to 3 daughters and 1 son. Among them, the third daughter, Marsha Yuan Chi Wai was the first runner-up of Miss Hong Kong in 1999. Her son, Harry Yuan Wo Yuk, and daughter, Eugenia Yuan Lai Kei, also joined the entertainment industry. However, in 1987, Cheng Pei Pei divorced and returned to film. After the divorce, she maintained a friendly relationship with her ex-husband and attended her daughter's wedding together.

Cheng Pei Pei has made many classic movies. In 1993 she collaborated with Stephen Chow Sing Chi in THE FLIRTING SCHOLAR (TONG BAK FU DIM CHAU HEUNG) and played "Mrs. Hua", which was deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and became one of her masterpieces. In particular she and Chow Sing Chi, who played "Tong Bak Fu", turned with a smile the "Smiling Half-Step Nail" from poison introduction segment into a drug-selling advertisement that left a deep impression on the audience. Regarding the death of his former partner, Chow Sing Chi posted on social media yesterday to express his deep regret. "Sister Pei Pei, see you around!"

Earlier Cheng Pei Pei also mentioned two secrets in her memoir "Looking Back on 70 Years of a Smile". The first was that she worked as a translator for Chow Sing Chi and Gong Li, who spoke Putonghua. Because she had to help translate, she often lacked sleep. While half asleep and half awake, she co-created the dialogue "To kill someone and silence them, you need a good medicine". Sister Pei Pei explained that why she took the role. "I have to eat too, right? At least I get to make a movie, I get to eat."

Sammo Hung Kam Bo, who has collaborated with Cheng Pei Pei in movies like PAINTED FACES and FLYING DRAGON, LEAPING TIGER, was also very sentimental when interviewed yesterday. He praised Cheng Pei Pei for having a very good character and being a very professional and good actor. He missed her very much. Jackie Chan posted a message yesterday to praise Cheng Pei Pei is a chivalrous woman of a generation and even more a legend.

The Hong Kong Film Awards winning director Felix Chong Man Keung recently appeared on the ViuTV program DIRECTOR'S GATE 2 and talked about the reason why he made the movie PROJECT GUTERBERG (MO SEUNG). He said that it was all because there were few crime movies about counterfeit banknotes in Chinese movies at that time. Therefore, during research he personally tried different equipment to make counterfeit banknotes. As for the two leading actors in the film, Chow Yun Fat and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Chong Man Keung said, "After I gave the script to Fat Gor, he made an appointment to talk the next day. He said he has read it 3 or 4 times and was extremely familiar with the entire script." Sing Sing in the middle of the filming had to leave the team for a day due to other work. Unexpectedly, when he rejoined the team Sing Sing could not regain his emotions immediately and got into the scene. He was very annoyed with himself and even stated: "I will never leave the team again!"

The Steve Yuen Kim Wai directed, Angus Yeung Tin Yue, Macy Ma Sihui Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Candice Yu On On, Catherine Chau Ka Yee, Jacquelin Chong Sze Man, Zhang Na, Law Ho Ming, Lan Jing, Chris Collins, and others starred action film INEXTERNAL (LUI YING OI HUP) has not yet been released but has already attracted the attention of international film festivals. It made its world premiere at New York Asian Film Festival.

To show his sincerity, Yeung Tin Yue flew to New York to appear at the premiere and promotional activities, achieving three "firsts" in Angus' life - in addition to his first appearance at an international film festival as a leading actor, he analyzed the other "two" firsts. "It was my first time to attend a film festival, and it was also my first trip to New York. As soon as I arrived, I felt a sense of deja vu that made me feel quite relaxed. INEXTERNAL's world premiere in New York means a lot to me. Growing up, I have loved watching Hollywood superhero action movies, and INEXTERNAL has some Western elements incorporated into it to some extent, so it is very appropriate that the film can have its world premiere in New York. As a new Hong Kong actor, I have great visions for the future of Hong Kong films. I also hope that Hong Kong films can become more international and reach out to different audiences around the world audience."

It is rare to have close interaction with American audiences. What impressed Angus the most was the enthusiasm and support of local fans for Hong Kong action movies. Angus recalled, "The audience asked about the whereabouts of action movies. As an actor who grew up in Hong Kong, action movies have a profound influence on me. The new generation should inject new elements into action movies. The story background of this movie takes place in the two-dimensional world. This kind of plot is relatively rare in Hong Kong movies. Action movies will continue to improve, and there will be more innovations." Has Angus taken the opportunity to sightsee on the first visit? He said, "The first day I arrived in New York was also the only day I had time to go sightseeing. I took advantage of the time to visit many places like St. Peter's Church, Times Square, Wall Street and many other famous landmarks, and had very wonderful memories."

The film CUSTOMS FRONTLINE (HOI GUAN SIN JIN) has received a lot of attention from international film festivals. After becoming the closing film of the 26th Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, it was invited to participate in the 23rd New York Asian Film Festival. The winner of the highest honor of this film festival, Star Asia Award, is none other than Nicholas Tse Ting Fung! The event took this opportunity to commend Nicholas Ting for his outstanding performance and significant contributions to the film industry over the years. Ting Fung flew to New York to attend the event and receive the Star Asia Award!

The 23rd New York Asian Film Festival kicked off a few days ago. Ting Fung flew to the city to attend a series of promotional events and personally accepted the Star Asia Award. He shared his feelings about winning the award. "I hope to use this rare opportunity to bring Chinese-language films to the world. Action movies are the most barrier-free type of body language. Over the years Hong Kong movies have been popular all over the world mainly because of this barrier-free body language. Due to the popularity of special effects in recent years, everyone seems to have become more dependent on special effects. I hope that through RAGING FIRE, CUSTOMS FRONTLINE, or movies in the future, we can once again introduce Hong Kong action movies to a new generation. This is a very important spiritual existence!"

For the first time he was both the lead actor and action director in CUSTOMS FRONTLILNE. Ting Fung said, "In addition to being an actor, I have been involved in different positions including action, editing, camera placement, etc. When it comes to which one I like, I think music, food, and movies are all channels for me to express my creativity!" Would he consider becoming a director in the future? Ting Fung responded, "I think the most important thing is that action movies also need to tell stories. Actions should serve the emotions of the characters. So far in my movies, what the directors let me to do the most is action. Different characters have different storytelling methods. Whether I will work in other positions in the future I haven't decided yet." Ting Fung, who has been seeking a breakthrough in movies, shared his personal experience. "You must put your true love in this career. I have been putting it in more than 25 years so far. I still plan to continue and hope to do my best every day. I don't think anyone can escape this fate: keep practicing and keep seeking progress!"

When asked if he would bring his brand "Chef Nic" to the U.S., Ting Fung stated that of course he would like to, but he would need to slowly prepare for that. He hoped to be able to develop different products to take to the entire world.
