Dr. Albert Yeung Sau sing earlier led Emperor artists to
a New Year group visit. Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Michelle Wai Sze Nga,
Kenny Kwan Chi Bun and others attended. Nominated with the film READY
O/R ROT (BUT YUT SING FUN 2) for Best Actress, Wai Sze Nga joked that
having a chance at the prize this year absolutely was a lucky first
shot.
Emperor Group chief Dr. Yeung Sau Sing along with many of the
company's management earlier at the Emperor Hotel in Wanchai held a
Year of the Dragon New Spring group visit. Many of the company's
artists attended, like Choi Cheuk Yin, Kwan Chi Bun, Alex Fong Chung
Shun, Wai Sze Nga, Catherine Chau Ka Yi, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yee), Chan
Kwok Bong, Irene Wan Bik Ha, Shek Sau, Sammy Sum Chun Hin, Elly, Aiden
Hung Jor Sing, Andy Lai Chin Fung, Kenneth Lai Chun, Dark Wong Ming
Tak, Angela Hui Ching Wan and Polly Lau Yeuk Bo.
Because Gillian Chung Yun Tung after completing her Twins
concerts was on vacation overseas, Hins Cheung King Hin was on
vacation with his parents and Gin Lee returned to Malaysia to spend
the Lunar New Year with her family, they were unable to attend.
However, Joey Yung Cho Yi who just completed her U.S. tour rushed to
the hotel upon landing in Hong Kong and made a surprise appearance
before the evening ended. Ah Sa has not feel well after completing
her concert. Although she still had to take medication, she still
made an appearance to see everyone.
In addition, earlier nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards
Best Actress with READY O/R ROT (BUT YUT SING FUN 2), Wai Sze Nga
said that to be nominated for a film award before the New Year was
like getting the early shot in. She of course would really like to
win, and her current mood was extreme excitement because the nomination
proved that the effort of the READY O/R ROT team has not been wasted.
She hoped to be able to continue to make even more good movies in the
Year of the Dragon, and continue to make the film subject of READY O/R
KNOT 3. She would even try stage performance to expand on her
experience. Finally she wished for everyone in Hong Kong would get to
work in the New Year. As for Sammy Sum Chun Hin, he and girlfriend
Yanny Chan Yan Yin have been in a relationship for 6 years. When would
they get married? He said, "Soon! Everyone would find out then,
haha!"
Nick Cheung feels the film industry currently is in an unstable climate courtesy of on.cc
Nick Cheung attends his film WOLF HIDING's preview screening. Looking back at experiencing the 21 day pandemic quarantine twice during the shoot, he says the situation is as horrifying as making THE EXORCIST

Nick Cheung Ka Fai two nights ago attended his film
WOLF HIDING (NO CHIU)'s advanced screening for friends. Speaking of
the production, he revealed that before the production began the film
company hired a Korean action director to train the actors. The film
had many action scenes like fighting, gang fights, assassination and
revenge, because the director really like Hong Kong action films that
felt solid and real; but he joked that after the production began he
realized that the action scenes in the film had nothing to do at all
with the training. However it actually did help because it trained
them physically and mentally; in addition, although action scenes
would inevitably have a little bumps and bruises, he did not get hurt.
As for the most memorable, Ka Fai pointed out that because
the film was shot during the pandemic, society came to a halt. In
addition because he had to shot on location in the mainland and
Macau, he twice experienced the 21 day quarantine period. The feeling
at the time was rather horrible and the impression was also very deeply
ingrained. He even revealed that during the quarantine period in the
hotel room were a treadmill and dumb bells, but continuously doing
the same type of exercises was getting really dull. Thus he wanted to
experience the feeling of running naked. He even joked, "After trying
it I felt it was no big deal, perhaps if I tried it outside the impact
would be even bigger, haha."
Since the film was already released in the mainland, how was
the box office? He said that the film has made over 200 million yuan
RMB and he was pleased, but he lamented the current film industry
atmosphere. He described the global economy and film both seemed to
have into very unstable and cold climate. "Our entire lives have been
spent on film. People in the industry, no matter the geography,
under this climate can only do our best. Because this change seems to
be unprecedented, we also have no way to forecast what the future will
be like or when it would become the past or return to warmth. Of
course this type of unstable climate would be concerning, everyone can
only continue their hard work." Ka Fai earlier fulfilled a promise to
his family, taking a few days off during the Spring Festival for a
vacation before immediately returning o work. He said that lately he
has been busy commuting between Hong Kong and Thailand for the
post product work of the film he directed and starred in, PEG O' MY
HEART (SHOOK MUNG). The process is almost 80% done and he hoped that
the film would make a mid year release.
After years in the business, Carlos Chan is the happiest when his acting receives outside the industry recognition courtesy of on.cc
The Carlos Chan Ka Lok starred, Benny Lau Wai Hang
directed Emperor Motion Picture WE ARE FAMILY (CHOOK JO YUN GA) would
open on March 14th. On the eve of its opening, the film has been
invited to take part in the 18th season of the Asian Pop Up Cinema film
festival in Chicago. Chan Ka Lok would even receive the Bright Star
Award. He and the director would fly to Chicago to accept the honor
and have close distance interaction with viewers there.
Chan Ka Lok said about receiving overseas film festival
recognition, "I feel very happy, very honored. Being able to have
the general public's recognition in my career is a shot of confidence
for me, giving me even more confidence, more motivation to walk
this performing business journey." The last time Ka Lok flew overseas
to participate in a film festival was already eight years ago for
HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR). He said, "This time I will be attending
a film festival in Chicago with WE ARE FAMILY. I am very excited.
Chicago is a city I haven't been to yet, I hope to go and take a
glimpse, and have more interactions with friends who like Hong Kong
films there."
Did he long for commendation for acting? He admitted, "I
believe as long as I put my heart into it, I would have the chance to
receive an award. I wouldn't force anything. Personally I feel I still
have time, I can wait -- even until age60; but the reason I want one
as soon as possible is for my family to be able to see it, to let
them know that I have worked hard, I have put my heart into it."
Director Sunny Chan, Law Lan, Wu Fung, Peter Lai and Tony Wu promote TABLE FOR SIX 2 on the street and are very popular courtesy of singtao.com
The Lunar New Year film TABLE FOR SIX 2 (FAN HEI GUNG
SUM 2) has already exceeded HK$ 30 million at the box office.
Yesterday the TABLE elders Bowie Wu Fung, Helena Law Lan, Peter Lai
Bei Tat, "cousin" Tony Wu Tsz Tung and director Sunny Chan Wing Sun
went to the cinema for an audience appreciation event for a close
contact with the audience. They played games, gave away lucky
pin wheels and autographed poster and announced the benefit of free
screenings for seniors.
Brother Sau said, "Old buddies is the movie good? this
movie is the director's work of sincerity. Before the shoot the film
has gone through careful consideration, now the performance is
exceptionally good as it becomes the Lunar New Year box office
champion." Brother Sau even mentioned that his children,
grandchildren, great grandchildren came to pay him a New Year visit
and he gave away big lai see. Everyone was very happy. After the
audience appreciation event, everyone went to districts of Kwun Tong
and Sun Po Kong to give away lucky pin wheels. People rushed to
accept the pin wheels from TABLE's three great elders in a very
cheerful atmosphere.
Louis Cheung and Michael Ning have known each other for a long time. Both have placed their footsteps onto film. THE MOON THIEVES was already their second collaboration. courtesy of singtao.com
Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Michael Ning (Bak Ji)
worked together on the Emperor Motion Picture THE MOON THIEVES (DOH
YUET JEH). In the film they along with Edan Lui Cheuk On and Anson Lo
Hon Ting began a watch heist operation. Ah Chung and Bak Ji have been
buddies for many years, but MOON was their second collaboration.
Personally they were full of chemistry, as they said that their
friendship brought them into character. They did not need too many
tricks to explain their history.
This time they went to Japan for the film shoot and said that
the production went very smoothly. They were even able to experience
the stunt performances of Hong Kong and Japan. Ah Chung pointed out
that the film as a Lunar New Year film added to their burden, many
viewers mistook it for a comedy. However this time had frequent
action scenes, the story was very intense. They hoped viewers would
be surprised.
In the film the four accepted the mission Keung To arranged.
As the team they worked together closely and also performed the
brotherhood between the four. Ah Chung as the leader said that he
instead had less action scenes. "However the cinematographer really
likes me, the shot of other people chatting would still be dragged
to me having noodles. For the shot, I had 8 bowls of noodles because
I didn't want to pretend. In the end after finishing this scene I
had stomach pain and had to exercise to make up for it!" Because the
film had many explosion and action scenes, Bak Ji with his years of
stage experience said, "The film would have real props. In one scene
I really accidentally lit some prop gun powder, wow, Edan who was
next to me and I saw it. We didn't care whether the director has
yelled cut or not, we immediately ran for our lives. All of these
you can't experience from the stage."
Ah Chung has already worked with MIRROR members many times.
Working together again on the film, Ah Chung said, "Ah Keung's
performance this time was very manly, no longer only has youth. He
very solidly performed with the team. I sensed that they have jumped
out of their comfort zone. Everyone has been working very hard,
making this performance's style happen with a realistic feeling.
Edan and Ah Lo are very talented, willing to try many methods and
very gladly discuss the scripts. This performance you would see them
perform without their idol halo." Bak Ji worked with MIRROR members
for the first time. He said, "Working with them for the first time,
I learn that they are very fiery hot idols. However their performance
surprises me. Edan is very willing to ask questions, he would stand
from the audience's point of view to think about what they are
thinking. He would even look for bugs in the scripts together; Ah
Lo would even hold dinner meetings, leading the team to discuss the
script. He really wants to do the job well. Finally I have the
opportunity to understand why everyone would appreciate them."
Gordon Lam wants to grow his hair long so directors would be able to see other possibilities for him courtesy of on.cc
Andrew Lau is working on his new film's post production courtesy of singtao.com
Gordon Lam ties up his hair and attends the banquet with a new image
Andrew Lau says making a dramatic film has been more difficult than action film courtesy of mingpao.com
Best Actor Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Catherine Chau Ka Yi,
Louis Cheung Kai Chung and director Andrew Lau Wai Keung two nights
ago attended the Society of Cinematographers (Hong Kong) Ltd. 36th
anniversary banquet. Other guests included Arthur Wong Ngok Tai, Soi
Cheang Pou Soi, Chin Kar Lok and Ng Chi Hung. With his hair in a bun,
Ka Tung revealed that he has always wanted to grow his hair long to
have new possibilities. As a member of the "Hong Kong Film Development
Council' he hoped to have more communication with the chair and other
council members, and offer ideas for the government to strongly
support film creation.
"Before making I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG) I grew it to
shoulder length, but the art director asked me to cut it short. The
next day I saw Producer (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, who actually asked me why
not put it in a bun." Ka Tung pointed out that he has red to grow his
hair long for two years, to around shoulder length, in hopes for
directors to be able to see a different him. Performance wise he
might have another possibility. Next time if the director asked him to
cut his hair, would he refuse to cut it? He said, "In the front of
film salary don't be so stubborn!" Earlier he grew his hair long for
two years before cutting his hair to start work, in other words he
waited two full years before having a job? Ka Tung chuckled, "That's
right, it was terrible back then! However now the film market isn't
much better, this year starting production would not be easy. I really
have to discuss with the government how to provide even more support."
He cited that some films' performance has been a little different than
expected, they were a little short. Even with some "surprise hit"
films, the performance was not too great, still a little off. Ka Tung
is a member of the "Hong Kong Film Development Council". He hoped to
have more communication with the chair and other council members.
"We can chat, because I am a member of the support committee I would
have meetings about how to support the film industry. I would make
some constructive suggestions. I feel we are now facing creative
issues, so we need to have stronger support."
Director Lau Wai Keung just finished DUMPLING QUEEN, a film
with Ma Li. Currently it is in post production and might be able to
make a release within this year. He said that DUMPLING would be a
biographical picture with a Hong Kong brand as the story backdrop.
Before production began he conducted the full research. The story
also attracted him so he agreed to direct. Lau Wai Keung revealed
that this time the film would bring back the 70's Hong Kong. He
deliberately built a Wanchai pier set in Foshan to bring the old
Hong Kong back to the audience.
Directing a drama this time, Lau Wai Keung stated that he has
been used to making action explosion scenes. Many have asked him why
would he make a drama. "I thought it would be a pretty new attempt,
but actually it has been rougher than making action films. The film
had many emotions and a struggle story, all of which would be touching.
A woman who grew up in Qingdao came to Hong Kong alone, from taking
care of her two daughters as a street vendor to becoming a publicly
trade company worth HK$ 7 billion. Aside from capturing her struggle,
the film also would have a lot of intricacies and woman sentiments."
In the future would he continue to challenge dramatic films? He said
that he would not focus only on one subject. This time he made the
film completely because the story attracted him. Actually currently
he already has several other scripts in preparation, including a
detective subject and a 1950s Hong Kong spy film.
