The movie DAI SEI MOK (ACT 4) held an opening ceremony yesterday, with producer Derek Yee Tung Sing, director Keane Wong Tak Kin, and actors Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Myolie Wu Hung Yi, Angela Yuen Lai Lam and Chrissie Chau Sau Na attending together. Fung Tak Lun and Chau Sau Na (Sister Na) would play husband and wife and also maneuvered between the ex Wu Hung Yi and apprentice Yuen Lai Lam. Fung Tak Lun said that although he has made occasional cameo appearances in Hong Kong films in recent years, he has not played the leading role for more than ten years. He returned to star because the subject of the script was rare, reflecting the life trajectory of each character in the form of a stage play. He found that particularly interesting. In the film he and Chau Sau Na have many scenes of marital conflicts, and filming has started for more than ten days.

Fung Tak Lun and Sister Na actually had quite the history. He laughed and said that when he directed STEPHEN'S DIARY, his discerning eye found Sister Na to perform in front of the screen for the first time. "I discovered her back then, and I thought this girl would definitely succeed so I asked her to perform on stage. Everyone can watch it again." However Sister Na did not want everyone to watch her performance again, and said with a little embarrassment, "I was so green at that time, I didn't understand anything! I still had baby fat!"

Speaking of the sluggish film market, would he reduce his salary? Stephen joked, "I have given a great discount already." As for his wife Shu Qi's "Busan Award - Best Director Award" in the competition section of the Busan International Film Festival for her directorial film debut GIRL, what did he give his wife as a reward? Fung Tak Lun smiled and said, "I got it, congratulations to her. She has already won many awards! (Lately some online said your acting was no match for your wife's!) She of course is powerful, I deserve to lose to her. I have finished her series THE RESURRECTED, it's really great." Would he consider co-directing a movie with his wife? He pointed out that he directed and his wife starred in THE ADVENTURERS (HUP DOH LUEN MUN), but he thought working together as directors would not be good. Was he afraid of arguments? He pointed out that no matter who it is, making a movie with two directors would be difficult, and he will want to do everything by himself during filming.

Yuen Lai Lam and Wu Hung Yi both would have a relationship conflict with Fung Tak Lun in the new film, the former's was ambiguous while the latter played the ex. At yesterday's production start ceremony, the two women cherished each other and even pushed each other to the center position when taking a group photo. The team also presented cake and flowers to celebrate Yuen Lai Lam's birthday. When Yuen Lai Lam received a birthday cake and blew out the candles, Hung Yi also took the initiative to help her with the flowers.

When asked about her birthday wishes, Yuen Lai Lam said, "I have two that have been shot for 4 years, and I hope they can be released soon. I am afraid that I would look different and scare the audience, and I want this production to go smoothly. (How would you celebrate tonight?) I just found out that I could finish work at 8 o'clock, so I immediately made an appointment with good friends for dinner. (Suitors?) Where would I get so many suitors?"

Hung Yi revealed that she would play a senior stage actor in the film this time, which could be said to be a return to her old profession. Speaking of her newlywed friend Nancy Wu Ting Yan's return to Hong Kong, she laughed and said that she was too busy with work and still hadn't made time for the dinner. "I don't want to bomb her, I believe many friends are looking for her. I think she will ask us out once she settles down. (Is Selena Li Sze Wah really back with her ex?) I don't know, but her ex is a good person. They may not get along so well, but that doesn't mean he's a bad person. Just give him space!" As for Li Sze Wah's complaint about her ex bringing friends home to stay overnight and sleep in her bed, Hung Yi was speechless. Yuen Lai Lam beside her immediately changed the subject, "Then can I go to your house to sleep? If I can, I'll go on the night of the wrap!" Hung Yi smiled and replied, "Of course you can come, I will even help you change the sheets! (So where does your husband sleep?) The living room!"

As the chairman of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Film Awards Association, Derek Yee Tung Sing (Siu Bo) agreed with the concern actor Louis Cheung Kai hung expressed earlier about the decline in the number of films and the source of the film may prevent the Hong Kong Film Awards from being held one day. "We have been paying attention to this matter in the past two years, because we have asked the government for funding, government money is taxpayers' money. Now with the government budget in the red we are still asking for funding, I have heard that many people are unhappy about using public money on this event. They feel that it is becoming less and less representative."

He said that by rough estimate, until the end of the year he believed that only 40 films would be released this year. "This year is still possible, and director (Jack) Ng Wai Lun has been hired as the program director of the Hong Kong Film Awards. Meetings would take place in the next two weeks. I believe that this year the government funding wouldn't come as easily as before. We are working hard on cutting expenses. We have some plans at hand, like if it wouldn't be at the Cultural Center it would be at a hotel." As for whether he was worried about the worsening of the film source in 2027, he said, "Of course I don't want this to happen, but now the 'Film Development Fund' is already the biggest boss. This year marks my 50th anniversary in the industry, and it has been the lowest year I have seen in Hong Kong films. I am afraid that next year may be even lower. There are always new blood joining, and now the young people are very tough. I think when it comes to a change of dynasty, in between may 3 or more difficult years to struggle through!"

The Will Or Wai Lam, Chung Suet Ying, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Yeung Nga Man and other artists voiced Hong Kong animated film ANOTHER WORLD (SAI OI) was selected as the opening film of the 22nd Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. The actors attended the premiere the night before. In addition to focusing on publicity, they also personally responded to the concerns of star actors stealing the jobs of professional voice actors. Battling stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma, Or Wai Lam revealed that he will take a short break after completing the work at hand.

Cheung Kai Chung joked that this dubbing was "very comfortable". "Because the character has no appearance or mouth, lip synching is not needed." He revealed that he only received a "heartfelt price" for his remuneration. Because he appreciated the producer's inspirational process that started from zero very much, he was very honored to be able to participate. For this movie, he and his wife Kay Tse On Kay even flew to Taiwan for dubbing and took their daughter and colleagues on a trip. After completing work they stayed in Taiwan for fun as a company trip. Kay said that the expenses in Taiwan were not light, equivalent to no salary but she did not mind because the producer Yeung Bo Man was a good friend. Regarding online questioning about the excessive use of stars and fear that it would shrink the space for professional voice actors, Cheung Kai Chung joked that "it probably isn't referring to me", because he has already joined the dubbing industry as early as 1989. He sincerely hoped that ANOTHER WORLD could go hand in hand with masterpieces such as DEMON SLAYER, drive the entire animation industry, and increase the workload of all film professionals. Kay also hoped that this film would show the world that Hong Kong has high quality animation production and bring in even more overseas funding in the future. In addition she has been rumored to be at odds with Juno Mak Chun Lung, whose new film SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) has received many negative reviews. Kay said that she has not have the time to watch the film, but sincerely hoped that investors would get their return.

Chung Suet Ying and Or Wai Lam also shared their dubbing experience. Chung recalled that dubbing an unfinished manuscript at that time was interesting and felt like taking part in its creation. Regarding the criticism of "stealing a job", she thanked the online opinions and was willing to listen to their opinions for improvement. She hoped that the film could promote the Hong Kong animation industry. Or Wai Lam believed that being discussed would be better than having no response, and he was not unhappy with criticism. He revealed that he has auditioned recently. He pointed out that he has completed 20 show stage play run earlier and proved that he was in good health. He would take a short break after completing the work at hand, and he expected to shut down before the Lunar New Year next year. Nominated for the Golden Horse Awards for Best Actor with the film A FOGGY TALE, he revealed that he has already written the speech because he had many people he would need to thank.

[2025.10.23] LOUIS CHEUNG'S "FIGHT" SAVES TOMMY CHU FROM THE ABYSS

courtesy of mingpao.com

Tommy Chu Pak Hong 6 years ago took the role of a boxer in the film GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG). At the time he was at his lowest point of his life. He thanked Louis Cheung Kai Chung for helping him get out of the trough. "In fact I wasn't the one who supported Ah Chung, instead he asked me to make this movie to support me. At that time I faced the biggest difficulty in my life, and also a big black hole in my life. I had no direction in the future and very lost, yet Ah Chung asked me to take part in this film. He supported me with action, which gave my life a clear goal again and regain my confidence.

In order to play a fighter, Chu Pak Hong and Cheung Kai Chung needed to accept tough physical training. With no martial arts background, Chu Pak Hong found an MMA coach in advance to learn to box for 1 year. His weight increased from 130 pounds to more than 200 pounds during training. During the official shooting he had to lose water to make his muscles more defined and his weight was reduced to 160 pounds. Ah Chung made fun of him for being stronger than Hollywood movie star Christian Bale, because he was fat and thin in a short period during filming back then, and had team behind him to support him. However Chu Pak Hong could only use the his own methods to lose weight. When filming the boxing match, Chu Pak Hong revealed that because he was not used to the series of "dehydration" processes he was confused for awhile. "I remember when I was disrobing for the match, I was confused due to the side effect of "dehydration". At the same time I had to remember my marks, boxing. At that moment I really couldn't remember. I was afraid of hurting people, missing my mark, not punching hard or fast enough. I was panicking, afraid of affecting the production progress. Ah Chung patiently told me, 'Little Brother, don't be afraid. Just punch me. You just punch me hard for real, you don't have to hold back for me.' His encouragements one after another were truly very touching."

Jeffrey Ngai sums up this year with 4 movies, a television series and a variety program -- a decent showing.

Hong Kong artists Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun, Nancy Kwai Chuek Yiu, Cloud Wan Ho Ying, Jessica Chan Yee Chun and and fencing athlete Ryan Choi Chun Yin attended the opening of the beauty store yesterday. Ngai Chun Sun has been active in the entertainment industry in multiple roles as a singer, actor and model. Although the film market has been sluggish this year, he ushered in a breakthrough year with over three movie releases and actualized his self exploration in music and movies.

Ngai Chun Sun's first leading role in a movie ROAD TO VENDETTA (SAT SAU #4) would be released at the end of the year. He said that the film subject would be fresh. He has played many funny and comedic roles in the past, but this time the role would be darker and deeper. In the sluggish film market, Ngai Chun Sun still had three to four film releases this year. He dared not say that it has been a bumper year, but this year would still be a year when he has experienced many different aspects of roles; a year when he has been able to get to know himself and have self-development. As for singing, he said that since each song has been self-funded release, he would also try a variety of genres. He has had rock songs and storytelling songs before, and the new songs would also show the dark side of the inner world. In the future he would challenge a fast dance song and has been secretly practicing his choreography. He hoped to be able to reach a certain level of quality before performing. His good friend Edan Lui Cheuk On has also recommended dance instructors to him.

In addition, Ngai Chun Sun has been rumored to be wearing Buddhist beads to treat eczema. He said that it was not related. He only wore it to keep him safe after he had a water skiing accident while filming; as for eczema, he said that it would be difficult to cure immediately. The condition would only improve if he would rest and his eating habits would be healthy enough.

Wan Ho Ying recently has been rehearsing for the play KIDS NAPPING IN Y2K. She accumulated stage performance experience when she performed in REWIND | REGRET | RESET earlier, but she said that last time she performed with sad emotions, but this time would be a relaxed and nonsensical style. Instead to seriously be funny would be even more difficult. She said, "The comedic pace is so difficult, you have to observe the audience's reaction and make adjustments in real time. If the audience don't laugh, you would be very embarrassed. For crying scenes you are fine as long as you achieve the broken heart feeling, you don't have to shed tears." Has she asked her musician boyfriend Terrance Ma King Hang to rehearse? She said that they would only compare notes in music. Because he is a music producer, she could ask him to help her practice new songs.

After Chan Yee Chun sang on stage at the birthday banquet of her boss Louis Koo Tin Lok a few days ago, he grabbed her to sing a duet before he let her off the stage. She joked that originally she was asked to sing the STEP INTO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) theme song "The Highest Destiny", but she did not know it. So Koo Tin Lok suggested singing "Boyfriend". She really felt honored to have this opportunity. Chan Yee Chun said that she has signed with Koo Tin Lok's company for 3 years. GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN), the movie she took part in, is in release. Despite the poor market, the film's motivation grew stronger and stronger. At an audience appreciation event she even ran into a viewer who has seen the film 16 times, which made her both happy and moved. As for her boyfriend Neo Yau Hawk Sau's variety program CUTTLEFISH GAME 2 being accused of plagiarism, she strongly supported the parody and praised the crew for being highly efficient.

[2025.10.22] SONS OF NEON NIGHT PRODUCER CATHERINE HUN DISCUSSES THE POSSIBILITY OF A MINI SERIES

SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT's Hong Kong and Macau box office has exceeded HK$ 12.4 million

Producer Catherine Hun
courtesy of mingpao.com

The Juno Mak Chun Lung directed SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) was released for 3 weeks, and its box office in Hong Kong and Macau has exceeded HK$ 12.4 million. According to the Maoyan box office chart, the film has collected more than 90 million yuan in the mainland. SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT has had mixed reviews, as what the audience liked and disliked has caused controversy. Earlier director Teddy Chan Tak Sum praised SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT on social platforms. The film's producer Catherine Hun Ka Chun recently forwarded Chan Tak Sum's post on Weibo, and thanked him for his appreciation and support. Hun Ka Chun clarified the rumor related to SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT's 6 hour version and revealed the possibility of the film being developed into a mini video series.

Director Chan Tak Sum last week publicly praised SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT as a movie he really liked. Even though he mentioned its flaw "the script lacks details and clarity", but from the camera angles, shot, visual designs, costume designs and others he saw all the effort that went into the film. He also advised Mak Chun Lung, "If Juno hasn't been knocked out by the box office this time, in the future he would definitely become another master in the Hong Kong film industry!" In the end he summed up the film, "This film is regrettable! I want to see his six hour version because I want to see Mak Chun Lung's even more fantastic creativity!"

Producer Hun thanked Chan Tak Sum for his appreciation last night, but at the same time also clarified that SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT has no 6 hour version as rumored. "Actually SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT doesn't have a version as long as the rumored six hours. Six hours ......may be the length of the film before editing, which led to the rumor to endure until now. The complete 1st cut I saw was 4 hours, which was very rich."

The current release version is over 2 hours, in other words it has 2 more hours of content everyone has yet to enjoy and unable to completely experience the world that Mak Chun Lung wanted to express in this film. Producer Hun Ka Chun also admitted, a platform once suggested for them to re-produce the currently cut material into a 5 to 8 episode mini series, but this suggestion would have certain difficulties in execution. "Because the film was shot over so many years ago, the subject has been affected by time more or less. In addition the procedure and the production problems involved like special effects, actors, budgets, scheduling...are more complicated. Currently we are still in the stages of discussing the possibilities ......I hope in the not too distant future to be able to give an answer to you and viewers who like this movie."
