series MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE (NGOR WOR GEUNG SI YAU GOR YEUK WUI) 24
years later as a screenwriter and director of the film version KUI
MOR LUNG JOOK MA SIU LING (DEMON SLAYING DRAGON CLAN MA SIU LING),
which would pair VAMPIRE's original character and city fantasy
subject with new actors and new stories.
Back then the VAMPIRE series trilogy starred Eric Wan Tin
Chiu as "Fong Tin Yau", Joey Man Yi Man as "Ma Siu Ling", Kristy Yang
Kung Yu as "Wong Chun Chun"; the film version would star respectively
Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Karena Ng Chin Yu and Jacky Cai Jie in those
roles. Another important character Ma Siu Ling's junior colleague
"Kam Ching Chung" would have Kaki Sham taking the bton from the
television series' Chapman To Man Chak. He earlier in the Trial and
Error production MY MISUNDERSTANDING WITH A VAMPIRE has already played
Kam Ching Chung, many online praised how accurate he was to the
original. Chan Sap Sam also felt that Kaki Sham was very suitable
for the character.
Kaki Sham has already started production on the film. His
character would be an uneducated homebody who only wanted to become
a viral internet star. Tse Suet Sum would play his mother. Two
nights ago he appeared in a "paranormal kid" costume and worked with
Tse Suet Sum. In the story he was very talented and knew magic, but
actually he was faking everything. Kaki Sham said that when he was
little he saw MY DATE WITH A VAMPIRE. "It was an explosive hit
classic television series when I was little, it was crazy, I thought
how could it be so powerful." Tse Suet Sum asked him, "You knew how
to watch it?" Kaki Sham said, "At the time I would follow it, but I
didn't savor the entire series. I would think why did they know to
think of these subjects? Vampires, very cool, I really liked it."
His favorite was "Ma Siu Ling", as he thought the character was very
classic and attractive.
After years in retirement, Cantonese film star Patsy
Ka Ling on the 21st passed away at home in Thailand. Known as the
"official villain", Wong Pak Man actually was her oldest son she had
before her start in the business. Because his parents were already
separated in his childhood, Wong Pak Man went with his Papa overseas.
Because he did not want to affect Mother, he never revealed their
relationship publicly.
Wong Pak Man admitted that over the years the mother son
relationship has been alienated, until when he informed his mother
that he would wed in his 20's. She flew to Hong Kong the next day to
prepare for his wedding. Then the mother and son relationship became
closer. He said, "The last time I saw Mommy was last month. Because
my sister said that Mommy's condition has deteriorated, so I went to
see her. When I saw Mommy again she was already intubated in bed and
unble to speak, but when she saw us she was very emotional. We
couldn't understand her so she wrote with a pen. She was rather clear
minded." Wong Pak Man's family yesterday has already headed to
attend the funeral. He, director and actor Wong Ching Wa (originally
named Wong Sha Man) and famous lyrics creator and actor Wyman Wong
are cousins.
He pointed out that he was not at liberty to reveal the
reason for his parents' parting. He also recalled that around 6 or 8
he "met Mother" through film. "Grandma brought me to the movies.
When I saw such a beautiful woman as my Mommy, I still don't believe
it." He revealed that he would collect her work in Hong Kong to
bring to Thailand. However it would only purely be a collection, he
would not watch the performances again.
Wong Pak Man said that he remained emotional since the passing
of his mother, but felt a sense of release because Mama no longer
needed to suffer. "Because she had a lot of difficulty breathing,
almost everyday she needed the doctor and the medical staff to take
care of her breathing issues so she could breathe easier. During that
period I saw her having a very hard time. I wish Mama a safe
journey." His daughter was very close to her grandmother. Wong Pak
Man said that his daughter has always loved Grandma very much, after
Grandma passed she cried for two days.
Speaking of the mother and son memories, Wong Pak Man said,
"Every minute and every second with her was unforgettable. From now
on I think every time we would take about our past with Mommy, they
would be the subjects of our family gatherings." Has he kept Mother's
lessons to heart? He said, "She said the most important thing in
life is to be real, this was the lesson that she taught me since I
was little to now." Wong Pak Man said that he did not want to reveal
too much of her mother's privacy. No matter what the public said, he
hoped everyone would give their family some space. He absolutely did
not want to increase his exposure through the passing of Mama.

The Philip Yung Tsz Kwong produced, new director Ho
Cheuk Tin directed, Yeung Wai Lun, Mak Pui Tung starred film THE
SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG) has been a critical and commercial
hit. Its box office has already exceeded HK$ 25 million. Recently
some online even called it a "Can't Miss Hong Kong Film". Playing Tse
Hin Chung (Yeung Wai Lun)'s friend Tong Man Kei, Mak Pui Tung's line
from the film "Frame me! Frame me! I have no problem!" even became
viral online as many memes flooded social media platforms.
Mak Pui Tung said that in real life when people saw him they
would say the line, but more than one scene was memorable. Scenes in
which he wolfed down "coffee rice" and the triple suicide were just as
unforgettable. Pui Tung admitted that these two scenes were indeed
very tough. "The triple suicide scene originally had a line, but now
the film removed it. For me that scene was more complicated, with
only four lines to explain it. I spent some time to shoot that."
As for the "coffee rice" scene, Mak Pui Tung admitted that he really
ate it. "It was all you can eat, I did three or four takes, each time
as soon as I got my hands on it I ate. Finally even the director told
me, you really don't have to eat for real!" Pui Tung gave his all in
this movie, but not for an award. Instead he hoped that movie would
be able to be recognized by even more people. With a good box office
performance, naturally hope would spring for another film. "They
have never seen my performance, but they trusted me. So I took the
role without even looking at the offer, it's not about the money!"
Struggling for a dream of course is something that cannot be
more fortunate, but reality is reality. Life still requires money.
Making money is hard for an actor, even harder for a stage actor!
Getting married next month, Pui Tung also admitted that because of
his financial issues he did not dare to wed. "I want to be able to
take care of the other half. It isn't just psychological, but for
her not to have to worry financially and in life. Theater is more
alternative, a performance doesn't make me a lot. Maybe I can only
make a month's worth of salary, which definitely isn't enough for
two." At his worst financially, Mak Tung only made HK$ 2 to 3,000
a month. He even went a month without working. Luckily Mak Tung's
girlfriend was not afraid of hardship and willing to fully support
her boyfriend's pursuit of his dream. "My girlfriend works at an
university, at the time her income was more sizable and stable than
mine. She told me it's not important, told me that if I couldn't she
would be able to support us first."

Wong Pak Ming did not reveal that Ka Ling was his mother until after her death. He said that although he did not live with her growing up, she was a good Mama
Ka Ling's heart belonged to her Chinese Thai husband Yiu Mo Lun. In 1963 after they wed she retired from film and moved to Bangkok, Thailand with him.

Cantonese film star of a generation Patsy Ka Ling two
days ago passed away in her sleep at home in Thailand. She was 87.
Goddaughter Sharon Kwok Sau Wan two days ago received the news. She
revealed that Ka Ling had chronic pulmonary disease for a while. She
was bedridden for a long time at home, now her passing would be like
a kind of release. However people around her would of course miss
her. She said that she was very upset and would rush to Thailand as
soon as possible to console Godmother and send Godmother on her final
journey. Unexpectedly Veteran actor Wong Pak Man was revealed as Ka
Ling's son. He already flew to Thailand right away and revealed that
Ka Ling's remains would be cremated on Saturday. Ka Ling was a
Cantonese film star in the same period as Tse Yin and Wu Fung. Ka
Ling and Tse Yin were not only silver screen partners but privately
were even lovers. Tse Yin even once admitted publicly that the
"First Woman he deeply loved" was Ka Ling.
Ka Ling was originally named Ho Pui Ying. Born in Nanhai,
Guangdong, Ka Ling's father was born and educated in the U.S. Later
during the Chinese Civil War, the entire family escape through
Guangzhou to Hong Kong in 1949. After graduating from the True Light
College, in the early 50s she was accepted into the Lang
Guang film company training class with
the stage name Ho Ka Ling. Her first film was the 1955 film THE
STRANGE CASE OF THREE WIVES (SAM CHAI KEI ONG). Later she changed
to the name "Ka Ling" for her movies and with the film DIAL 999 FOR
MURDER (999 MING ONG) she rose to fame. In her career she performed
in over 60 films, including BLOSSOM IN THE RAINY MAY (NG YUET YU JUNG
FA), HOW TO GET A WIFE (JUI CHAI GEI), THE BEAU (FA FA GUNG JI), and
THE STORY OF A DISCHARGED PRISONER (YING HUNG BOON SIK). The
impression that she gave people was sentimental, gracious and
elegant. Her silver screen partners included Patrick Tse Yin and Wu
Fung. She and Sei Gor were not only the golden couple on screen but
life also imitated art. Privately they were once a couple. Sei Gor
even publicly admitted that the "first woman he deeply loved" was Ka
Ling, unfortunately their relationship did not blossom. Earlier when
Ka Ling accepted Lydia Shum Din ha's interview she revealed that when
she dated Tse Yin their relationship was great. The reason for the
break up was that she wanted to get married, but Sei Gor was at the
peak of his success and did not want to wed too soon. When Ka Ling
suggested the break up Sei Gor did not try to save the relationship.
Even when Ka Ling told him she had a suitor, Sei Gor still was not
jealous. Finally in 1963, Ka Ling wed the Chinese Thai Yiu Mo Lun
after a year of dating and had two daughters and a son. In her
farewell film THE STRANGE GIRL (YUN HOI KEI FA), Ka Ling played a
mentally unbalanced woman who took revenge of men, breaking through
her usual heroic roles. Since her retirement in 1967, Ka Ling
settled in Bangkok, Thailand with her husband. Although she was
retired, she still had contact with industry insiders. Those who
were close to her would visit her in Bangkok and she would take them
out and eat.
This time Ka Ling's passing in her sleep also revealed that
veteran actor Wong Pak Man was actually Ka Ling's son. Currently in
Thailand, Wong Pak Man yesterday spoke with TVB Entertainment News
and said that after receiving the news he and his daughter took the
morning flight the next day to Thailand. As soon as they arrived,
they relocated Mama to inside the temple. First they would complete
the related traditions and ceremonies for 3 days. On Saturday the
cremation would take place. His younger Thai siblings would handle
the affairs. He mainly came to bid farewell. After sending Mama on
her final journey Saturday he would return to Hong Kong.
Wong Pak Ming recalled the last time he saw Mama was at the
end of last month when he flew to Thailand. He said, "Because
younger sister said that Mama's condition wasn't optimistic, the whole
family dropped everything and flew there. When Mommy saw us, she
suddenly felt very much. Ultimately due to the pandemic we haven't
seen each other for over two years, we were only able to communicate
over the phone. On the phone I could hear that Mommy already had a
hard time with just speaking. I had to guess what Mama was saying.
Because Mama had lung problems, her breathing was difficult and she
did not have the energy to speak. I still remember on the day when I
left, Mama didn't want us to leave. I even said to Mama we would be
back to see her very soon, only then she finally was willing to let
go of my hand. I never imagined that it would be this soon......"
The sound of weeping could be heard over the phone. Wong Pak Man
had to take several deep breathes before continuing. He knew that
Mama had a lot that she wanted to say to him, but she was unable to;
normally the mother and son would have a lot of share. After she
learned that he got into the business she also taught him a lot
about life, how to follow the industry rules and actor's ethics.
Whenever he finished a project on or off screen, Mama would definitely
watch. It was like giving her his report card. He also said that Mama
was never strict with him. She was a good Mama, a good wife, a good
grandmother, and a typical gentle wife and mother.
Wong Pak Man and Ka Ling's mother and son relationship was
rather low key. He said that because he did not want to uncover Mama's
privacy, he only said that he did not grow up with Mama. When he
was little he went overseas with Papa. He did not see Mama for the
first time until he was 6 or 7. After that they had very little
contact, only in between he would fly to Thailand to meet for Lunar
New Year and such. After he became an adult they got back together
again and had more contact. During the Lunar New Year the whole
family would be together; Mama also loved his daughter very much
because she was her first granddaughter.
Speaking of deep memories, Wong Pak Man admitted that he had a
childhood trauma. He remembered the most when he got married. He
informed Mama one day the Mama was in Hong Kong the next day to
handle his wedding details like traditional ceremonies and such. The
deepest impression was knowing that Mama really loved her and he had
a place in her heart. When he spoke he sobbed, already resolved
his childhood trauma and understood why Mama would leave him back
then.
About her god mother's passing, god daughter Sharon Kwok Sau
Wan was heartbroken and said, "I got the news yesterday morning around
6 or 7 AM. The nurse who was caring for her in the middle of the
night found her passed away in her sleep. At the time Godfather was
still asleep. She immediately called my god sister in New Zealand
(Ka Ling's second daughter). After I got the news I have been unable
to contact Godfather. He didn't turn on his phone. I am the most
worried about him. Because of the pandemic his health was not as
good as it was before. Fortunately God brother (second son) already
rushed home to keep his father company. I would rush to Thailand as
soon as possible to console Godfather." Kwok Sau Wan revealed that
Godmother passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She
said, "Godmother's health in recent year kept deteriorating. The last
time I saw her was in 2019. Because my, Godfather and Godmother's
birthdays were all in December, I made the trip to Thailand to
celebrate with them. Godmother felt that she was not as active as
before and rarely went out. When she had time she liked to watch
television series. However she loved me very much, she even went
out to eat with me. She was in great spirit! Unfortunately due to
the pandemic I was unable to visit them again. Originally I planned
to celebrate our birthdays together again in December in Thailand, I
didn't expect for Godmother to pass fast. I am very heartbroken,
God sister (elder daughter) also passed away last year."
Kwok Sau Wan and Ka Ling had quite a history, since childhood
she was already her god daughter. Coincidentally her god mother was
also her mother in law's god daughter. She recalled this elegant and
graceful godmother Ka Ling in her eyes. "God mother was someone who
didn't speak much, but she really spoiled me. She really liked to
talk with me about life, how to take care of my husband, how to handle
any difficulty. She was worked on the screen, had a lot of experience

me an antique Thai bracelet with a snake shaped design diamond
accessory. When Thai families' daughters wed they would have this
tradition. When Godmother got married she also received Mother in
law's present, which she wore on her arm. This time when I go to
Thailand I would wear it."
Kwok Sau Wan lamented that due to the pandemic she lost family
and friends. "It made me cherish the present even more, do what I
want to do even more actively. Age is just a number. Everyone can
live fulfillingly. If you miss someone, call and see them more.
Don't think that you still have a lot of time, you have to properly
cherish people and events around you."
Wu Fung was also a top star during the Cantonese film era and
has worked with Ka Ling on a film. Brother Sau said that they did
not have too many opportunities to work together, but when they did
they were great friends. They would meet with Patrick Tse Yin and
Wu Fung for dinner and dancing on their time off. However after Ka
Ling married and emigrated to Thailand he rarely saw her. He was
saddened by her passing and would miss her.
Lau Tan although has never worked with Ka Ling but he has
met her. Over 20 years ago, he went with the star soccer team to
visit Thailand. Ka Ling and her husband welcomed them. Lord Tan
praised the couple as great and generous people. "Despite their
wealth and status they were very humble with people. The rarest was
that Ka Ling's husband didn't know us at all, but because we were Ka
Ling's good friends he too welcomed us."
Teresa Mo praises director Eric Tsang Hing Weng for being fully prepared for the shoot, which went very smoothly, finished on time and under budget.

New director Eric Tsang Hing Weng's film HONG KONG
FAMILY (GOR SI GOR JIK) adapted his own family relationships for the
silver screen. The Edan Lui Cheuk On played "Ah Yeung" was the
director himself, Best Actor and Best Actress Gardner Tse Kwan Ho and
Teresa Mo Shun Kwan played Edan's parents. Tsang Hing Weng wanted to
share the experienced that he cared about the most in his first film,
hoping through this film the audience would be able to relate,
family members with poor relationships would have something to talk
about and gradually repair their relationships. Sister Mo really
liked the script and has always wanted to pass the baton and help new
directors, so she performed for zero salary. In real life, Sister Mo
has a happy marriage, gets along harmoniously with her two daughters
with rather good relationships. She is drastically different from
her character in the film, felt that it would be a great challenge but
her acting bug had its fill.
HONG KONG FAMILY opened with Edan's family returning to
Grandma's for winter solstice. Because of trivial problems in life,
the parents argued. Papa wielded a "knife" out of impulse and Edan
yelled at him to stop him. Out of rage, he left home for 8 years.
Tsang Hing Weng said, "In real life I left home so far for already 10
years I used to feel that adults should accommodate children. Now
I am grown, I realize the problem can't be fixed because everyone is
waiting for the other to coax them back. Over the first few years
away from home, I didn't talk to my father. Later with one sentence
here and half there, now I constantly go home for dinner and chat.
The relationship isn't as stiff as it used to be." He felt that the
family had a problem, which was inevitable. Struggling over the
matter was meaningless, taking a step by to understand each other's
feeling and stance, taking the first step, opening up and talking is
the best way to repair the relationship. "Like in the film's ending,
Tse Kwan Ho took the initiative to walk in front of Edan. Everyone
let go of their baggage and started talking."
Making his first feature film, Tsang Hing Weng felt new and
fresh to everything in front of him. He was also tested on his
"improv" response. Luckily he received help from an experience teams,
including producers and actors. In addition Heaven helped, everyday
was sunny at work so the film was completely smoothly. The most
difficult during the process was running into the social movement
and the pandemic. "The script was completed in 2018, in 2019 I got
enough financing to start production. However in the same year the
Hong Kong social environment began to change. With the global
pandemic on top of that, the production had no start date. I could
only take advantage of the time to edit the script, kept knocking it
over and starting again. At the time it felt very brutal and very
tough, but looking back it was a good thing. I was able to make the
script its best. Under the producer's recommendation I invited the
god class actor Sister Mo to perform. My first feature film was
selected to take part in the Busan International Film Festival, which w
was very encouraging!"
Tsang Hing Hen thanked Sister Mo for her help, not taking any
salary, not even transportation cost. Sister Mo said that the
screenplay deeply moved her. "I really like this script. The
situation the family is in the film actually frequently happens at
many homes, I can relate to it. I have always wanted to pass the
baton and help new directors. When producer Sister Chong (Chong Lai
Chun) told me HONG KONG FAMILY was the First Feature Film Initiative
project, the production budget was only HK$ 3 million and would have
a hard to withstand my salary, I agreed to perform right away and
told the director to be fully prepared. As soon as we took our
marks we would shoot, not to waste time because time was money.
Although Tsang Hing Weng was a new director who was a little self-
deprecating but very real. He was very certain about what he wanted,
communicated very well with the cinematographer. The production
process was very smooth, it was completed in 21 days without going
over budget. I felt like my help truly had value."
Sister Mo and "husband" Tse Kwan Ho had many scenes together,
from the opening when her husband almost chopped her to death and
screamed with all her might; to in the end when her husband suggested
divorce and she showed an expression of disbelief, from sobbing to
weeping she was full of spark. Sister Mo dared to take the credit,
praising Kwan Ho as a well honed actor who was very easy to
communicate with. Only with mutual cooperation would they be able to
achieve this effect. "The challenge was enormous, but my acting bug
had its fill. Thus when I had to leave the character 'Ah Ling' at
the production wrap, I really had a hard time. I still wanted to
linger a little longer."
Sister Mo said that in real life his family was drastically
different in the film. She communicated very well with her two
daughters. As for husband Au Ting Ping, she said that he was an
artist who wouldn't easily communicate with others. Over the years
their marriage relied on mutual tolerance. "My husband is about the
principle. If his standard isn't reached, you wouldn't hear half a
praise. However he also has his lovable parts. I don't dare to say
he is hard to take, because I have my hard to take parts too.
Getting along between people, whether with a couple or with children
we all need to compromise."
Sister Mo's relationships with her two daughters have been
exceedingly good. The way she educated her daughters was very
different from the previous generation's. "The girls basically grew
up under praises, as long as they did their best it's OK. Thus they
are very self confident, at the same time I wouldn't criticize
others because her parents didn't criticize them. For children the
most important is teaching according to the material. The younger
daughter chose the correct major, so she got A's even at the
university and wouldn't need me to worry. My parents were
different. Since childhood they were very demanding of me,
everything has to be done perfectly. They also wouldn't praise me."
