April 1 is conceivably a date that many Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing fans would not forget. Yesterday was the seventh anniversary of Gor Gor's passing. His fans did not forget and stuck by his side. Yesterday afternoon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and at night in Chater Garden a memorial event took place for this superstar of a generation. Lately many fans placed floral arrangements outside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to remember Gor Gor. This year was the 7th anniversary of Gor Gor's passing, some fans sent floral arrangements in the shape of the number 7. Around 6:41 PM, over 100 fans at the square across the street from the hotel held white candles in a moment of silence. Some fans broke down.
At 8PM, Gor Gor's fans held a memorial evening in memory of Gor Gor with 500 fans in attendance, some from as far as Japan and Korea. Some fans also ordered special glow sticks that displayed Cheung Kwok Wing, Leslie and Gor Gor when in motion. This year was also the tenth anniversary of Gor Gor's concert, which was also last night's memorial theme as concert highlight was shown.
The concert's director, make up artist, choreographer, fashion director were interviews to reminisce about their concert experience. The choreographer said that back then Gor Gor sang two wrong songs and even the dancers followed him into the incorrect performance. The next day Gor Gor apologized to the dancers, which the choreographer pointed out he has never seen such a great superstar. Back then female dangers had the chance to dance with Gor Gor and they all asked for more time to be in Gor Gor's embrace. The concert director said that in one part Gor Gor wore a dress and had many accessories on his leg. Actually Gor Gor's leg was already cut, but for the beautiful effect he continued to perform with any bandage. In addition, Gor Gor's former home yesterday also received many flowers from fans.
There were also fans at the events from the US (I'm a non-Asian American and I was in attendance), Australia, Singapore, Canada and Europe. The number of fans attending the Passion Tour outdoor concert was around 2,000 (1,500 fans received one glow stick apiece, and more fans entered the garden after all the glow sticks were distributed).
