Jacky Cheung Hok Yau returned to the big screen after eight years and starred in the Emperor Motion Picture CUSTOMS FRONTLINE (HOI GUAN JIN SIN). He and his long-time partner, Karena Lam Ka Yan, played a couple again, and they were very comfortable with it. The director even wanted Hok Yau and Ka Yan to express themselves freely, but Hok Yau stopped him. He joked that if the director did not cut the cameras, a lot of unimaginable things would continue!

Hok Yau and Ka Yan took the time to catch up before they took their marks, and were then interviewed one after another. Ka Yan acted coquettishly and complained that her good partner Hok Yau often brought up the past. In the film, Hok Yau plays the role of customs officer Cheung Won Nam, while Ka Yan plays the higher-ranking Assistant Commissioner of Customs. The couple's relationship was one where men were inferior and women were superior. The man sometimes scolded the woman out of self pity, and Hok Yau even has to perform scenes in which he got upset and cursed. Even Ka Yan was frightened by him. However, their scenes together were concentrated in heartwarming scenes. When they took their places that they would "automatically" embrace each other head to head. When director Herman Yau Lai To stepped forward to direct, he would in the end find that the action this pair of good partner designed was the most natural. In the scene where Hok Yau was celebrating Ka Yan's birthday, they had to take selfies with their phones and look at the photos to make fun of each other. The two of them were immersed in their roles as if no one else was around, making Ka Yan laugh both inside and outside the scene.

In another scene, Hok Yau had to take good care of Ka Yan. The director originally planned to keep the camera on for a long time to let the two of them play freely. No one expected that Hok Yau would hilariously object. "No, if you don't cut and we keep acting, a lot of things will continue to happen incredibly, and unimaginable things will happen!" He cracked up the whole set. The two finished their scenes together that day, and Ka Yan was reluctant to leave. After the two hug each other goodbye, they joked, "Don't be so naughty!" The two immediately laughed.

Hok Yau and Ka Yan have collaborated in the films JULY RHAPSODY and HEAVEN IN THE DARK. When asked if they remembered when they first collaborated? Hok Yau answered excitedly, "The first time we worked together was in 1994, she was only a teenager then." Ka Yan immediately interrupted and said, "Don't say it anymore, every time I see him he says it, that he knew me when I was 18, haha!" Hok Yau was referring to Ka Yan's role as the lead in the music video for his classic hit "Love Letter". Ka Yan was only 18 years old at the time, and this was how their fate started. In the end, Hok Yau expressed his belief that he would collaborate with Ka Yan again soon, and even sang a classic song. "We will meet again that day..."
