The "62nd Taiwan Golden Horse Awards" was held at the Taipei Pop Music Center last night, attracting a large number of artists to support the event. The scene was lively, but the Best Actress nominee Fan Bingbing went "missing" on the spot and did not appear at the event. In the end she with Chang Chen both took home the top prizes. She even cried when she talked about her feelings about winning the award over the phone.

At the Golden Horse Awards ceremony held in Taipei last night, well-known filmmakers such as Ariel Lin, Austin Lin Bo-Hong, Joseph Chang Hsiao-chuan, Ivy Chen Yi-han, and Ang Lee poured out. Yet the star of the movie MOTHER BHUMI, Fan Bingbing was said to be making a surprise appearance in advance. She was absent, but still won the "Best Actress" award. MOTHER BHUMI director Chong Keat-aun accepted the award on her behalf from last year's Golden Horse Award Best Actress Chung Suet Ying. Chong Keat-aun said, "When I was hesitating about whether Fan Bingbing would star in this movie, she followed me to my hometown and fell on the rice field. I asked her why she wanted to fight for this role. She told me, 'I want to start over'."

Then Chong Keat-aun called Fan Bingbing. She talked about her feelings about winning the award through the phone, and could be heard crying, speaking intermittently, and obviously very excited. "I am filming and watching the live broadcast, thank you for the recognition given to me by the Golden Horse committee. I am deeply grateful to Director Chang (Chong Keat-aun) for his unwavering trust in me. Before filming started he told me that he would 'destroy' my appearance. I said I would accompany him to the end. This is mutual trust without hesitation. This time I resonated with the character's soul, and I deeply entered her world. This role led met to my growth, made me deeply experience the strength of a woman's determination. As a Chinese filmmaker I look forward to having even more breakthroughs in the future, deliver value with my work, and I am grateful to my team colleagues who are like family this time. This award belongs to all of you." BHUMI MOTHER's BHUJANGA also won the Best Original Film Song, with music and performance by Penny Tai and lyrics by Chong Keat-aun. Chong Keat-aun said hat this song was written for lead actor Fan Bingbing; Leung Ming-Kai won Best Cinematography for the film as well.

The "Best Actor" was won by Chang Chen, the star in the movie LUCKY LU. This was also his second Golden Horse Best Actor award after THE SOUL in 2021. He thanked his wife and daughter on the stage as he joked, "They have it quite rough, because I am hardly ever home." Chang Chen dedicated the award to his family, including his actor father Chang Kuo-Chu. "He brought me into film and I know film." He said that since he started at age 13 to now he believed in and loved film. In the future he would continue on. He also thanked his fellow nominees. He felt that this year's jury had a very hard time picking the winner, because every nominee was great. He said happily, "I acted in a relaxed state this time. During the two months on location in New York, I devoted myself wholeheartedly to the role. Thank you to the photographer for controlling the camera very accurately, capturing even a little bit of my eyes."

The "Best Director" went to Hong Kong Jun Li Chun Shek, who stood out for directing the gay film QUEERPANORAMA. He took a deep breath after receiving the trophy from the famous director Ang Lee, and then thank the film's Best New Performer nominee Jayden Cheung. "Running into you is my greatest, greatest fortune as a director!" Finally he made a declaration of love to the other half of the audience, Zenni Corbin. "I love you, you have made me a better person." The movie A FOGGY TALE won the "Best Narrative Feature" and the audience cheered endlessly.

Vera Chen won the "Best Supporting Actress" for the movie THE WAVES WILL CARRY US. She was excited and burst into tears after hearing the news. She said that after 17 years she finally stood on the stage to accept the award, saying that she would dedicate the award to every actors who played supporting roles in film. "Perhaps we wouldn't catch people's eyes, question our own abilities, but thankfully we never gave up."

As for Tseng Jing-hua, he with the movie FAMILY MATTERS won the "Best Supporting Actor". He shed tears with every word when he gave his thank-you speech in a touching scene, as he embraced the film's director Pan Ke-yin. He said that he did not know what to say, but he did many brave things. The film world has given him space to properly live, experience these emotions, and made him fall in love with everything.

The "Best New Performer" was won by Ma Shih-yuan for LEFT-HANDED GIRL. She thanked the entire team for their focus and trust, with which she was able to have the courage to complete the role. Lloyd Lee CHOI was awarded the "Best New Director" for directing the movie LUCKY LU. During the tribute session, a number of classic movie songs were used as soundtracks to broadcast the life moments of many artists who passed away this year, including Suet Nei, Tong Jia, Chow Chung, Benz Hui Siu Hung, Stanley Fung Shui Fan and Barbie Hsu, in a touching scene.

The Hong Kong animated film ANOTHER WORLD (SAI OI) won Best Animated Feature. Part of the voice acting team, Chung Suet Ying and Will Or Wai Lam were rather excited in the audience. The Hong Kong born director Mary Stephen with PALIMPSEST: THE STORY OF A NAME won Best Film Editing and Best Documentary Feature. She gave her speech in Cantonese as she thanked the Golden Horse committee for the recognition. Mary Stephen has edited French film master Eric Rohmer's films THE TRIPLE AGENT and AUTUMN TALE.

In addition, the movie A FOGGY TALE received the most favor from fans and won the "Audience Choice Award". The lead actor Will Or Wai Lam hared the good news online instantly, and the two lead actresses Caitlin Fang Yuting and 9m88 were so happy that they danced on the spot.

  1. One of the artists that passed away is clearly Barbie Hsu and not Vivian as written above. I’m pretty sure Vivian Hsu is still pretty much alive 😅
