The first award ceremony in the music industry in 2026, the
"2025 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentations", was held last night at
AsiaWorld-Expo. The ceremony's theme is "Need You To Do It Because It
is Hard", meaning that no matter in music or the journey of life,
hardship requires even more determination and perseverance to keep
breaking through and challenging yourself. This kind of spirit is
exactly the strength to keep moving forward, and Vincy Chan (Wing Yi) is
a perfect confirmation of this. 20 years after her debut when she won
the "Professional Recommendation Ultimate Top Ten" song award last
night, she was moved to tears and shared that she should not trap
herself because of her age. The guy group MIRROR was absent, but
the group and Keung To individually won a total of 3 awards, including
winning My Favorite Group for 5 consecutive years. Jay Fung Wan Him won
the gold prize for male singer for the first time, as well as the bronze
medal for creative singer and song award. MC Cheung Tin Fu also won
three awards, including the Silver Prize for Male Singer, the Ultimate
Record Award and the Song Award. Gin Lee Hung Ngai became a big winner
among female singers, and repeated as the gold prize winner for female
singer and song award. Stephy Tang Lai Yan stepped on the stage again
after 23 years and won My Favorite Female Singer award for the first
time.
A total of 49 awards were presented at the ceremony, all of
which were based on the radio song airplay rate. Fans would be able to
vote with one vote per person for the "My Favorite Male and Female
Singer, Group and Song Awards" through the mobile app to support their
favorite singers and songs with practical actions. The final five
"Ultimate Music My Favorite Songs" have been selected by fans, namely
Anson Lo Hon Ting's "LEMONADE", Keung To's "ON A SUNNYDAY", Terence
Lam Ka Him's "APRIL WHISPER", Ian Chan Cheuk Yin's "WRITTEN IN THE
STARS" and MC Cheung Tin Fu's "LIAR". Last night the final round of
voting was held, and the audience voted for their favorite songs on
the spot. Before the start, clips of the nominations for various
awards were played on a loop, with Keung To's "ON A SUNNYDAY", Cheung
Tin Fu's "LIAR", and Lam Ka Him's "APRIL WHISPER" getting the loudest
cheers. Due to MIRROR's absence from the award ceremony this year, a
large number of their fans were missing to canvass votes, and no place
was set up outside to cheer and take photos outside the venue.
Keung To was the only MIRROR member to receive an individual
award at the Ultimate Awards. He posted on social platforms the moment
when he watched My Favorite Male Singer award announcement on his mobile
phone in the car, and "Keung" fan support lights all lit up together in
the venue. When counting the votes for My Favorite Song Award, Keung
To's "ON A SUNNYDAY" pulled away from teammate Anson Lo Hon Ting's
"LEMONADE" by a large margin. Keung To won the My Favorite Song Award
for 6 consecutive years, breaking the records of Eason Chan Yik Shun and
Jacky Cheung Hok Yau.
Fung Wan Him won the gold prize for male singers for the first
time, and also his "first gold" since entering the industry as he
successfully shook off the "second place for ten thousand years" curse.
When he received the award he tearfully said he was very scared, because
he did not know how everyone would react. "This award is not a year of
hard work, it is accumulated over many years. I want to thank myself, I
wanted to give up singing. Then I hid at home to write songs, and I was
given the opportunity by the record company. I won't forget the
kindness of the company. I think when we signed me they were very much
in doubt, at the time I looked swollen, with messed up teeth and no
confidence." Jason Chan Pak Yu received the bronze prize and stated
that this year he really wanted to receive an award.
Repeating as the gold prize winner for female singer, Lee Hung
Ngai revealed that last year she served as the mentor of ViuTV's "KING
MAKER VI" to accompany young people to pursue their dreams. "Last year
went by especially fast, leaving me no time to digest it. In this age
to be a singer you must have a strong heart and eighteen types of
martial arts, the reason why I insist on doing it is because life
affects life. Music can make the world even better. This belief made
me win an award on this stage for the second time. I want to share this
award with people who are working hard and struggling. Those who work
hard will not lose." "Female Silver" Panther Chan Lui cried and said
that 2025 taught her the word "cherish", cherish the people who love
her, cherish Cantonese songs and work hard to be a Cantonese song
singer, and encourage everyone to have fun in time, "because you don't
know when the person you like will be gone." The bronze went to Jace
Chan Hoi Wing.
The girl group COLLAR won the group gold prize for the first
time, doing so 20 years after the Twins won the group gold prize in
2005. Captain Gao Shum Ching Hau tearfully gave a speech, thanking the
fans who have always been accompanying them and promising to repay
everyone with more good songs.
Silver prize recipient went to Pandora. Winning the "group
silver" for the first time after 15 years together, the 3 members
said, "We really want to cry!" Bronze prize went to The Hertz.
"Thank you fans. When we perform abroad, no one understands what we
are singing. Because we insist on singing Cantonese songs, we would
continue to sing with our own language."
Stephy Tang Lai Yan won My Favorite Female Singer Award for the
first time. Suppressing her emotions, she told herself that she could
not cry. "The last time I was on the stage was 23 years ago. At the
time I won the Rookie Award. After I got off the stage I felt that I
was too far away from this stage, I didn't know when I would be able to
go on it again. I once avoided and doubted, but I never gave up. I
know that many people still believe in me and achieve an inspirational
story."
The award ceremony first arranged for the singers to enter the
stage one by one and appear on stage, and then the emcee led the singers
to pay tribute to the deceased musician Khalil Fong Datong. With a
microphone stand placed in the center of
the stage, Fong Datong's musical partners played and sang many of Fang
Datong's classic works like "BB88", "Simple Is The Most Romantic",
"Park", "Definition of Love" and "Love Song". In the end the screen
displayed, "Thank you for your music, enabling us to be as one."
The first to receive an award was MC Cheung Tin Fu. He with the
song IN DOUBT won the "Professional Recommendation Ultimate Top Ten"'s
number ten song. He thanked the radio station and record company for
their support, thanked the fans for voting, allowing him to share his
story with everyone in the song, and encouraged everyone not to doubt
themselves and keep going. Gin Lee Hung Ngai's WHITE NIGHT received the
9th place. She thanked "Big Brother" Nicholas Tse Ting Fung for helping
her compose and produce, and expressed her intention with the song that
everyone will encounter different challenges, struggles and difficulties
every day. It was not easy to walk alone, but you could take every step
with others. She said that Hong Kong has experienced a lot of
unhappiness in 2025, and hoped that everyone would be safe and happy in
2026, and continue to walk together. In eighth place was Jay Fung Wan
Him's "GHIBLI", he hoped that everyone would be full of hope and peace
in the new year. Dear Jane's "I CRY BECAUSE YOU CRIED" ranked seventh,
and after 20 years of debut they said they would continue to make good
music, and joked that even if not many people know their members' names,
it was enough for Dear Jane to have a song that can move everyone. The
sixth place is Jason Chan Pak Yu's "THE FUTURE I SAW", when he was about
to speak after receiving the award, the microphone suddenly went silent.
He covered his face and shouted, "Don't scare me." When the microphone
sounded, Chan Pak Yu said that there has never wanted to win in a year
like this year. He received applause from the audience. He said, "I am
very happy to win the sixth place, thank you to my daughter and wife.
This song is not a fable, it is a promise, no matter the future is good
or bad, we will live together."
The Ultimate Top Ten Songs number four went to Vincy Chan (Wing
Yi)'s SUGAR FREE. She thanked her other half for providing emotional
value. "Yesterday was my 20th anniversary in the industry. 20 years
are not a short time, for a period of time I would question what else I
could give to everyone; but I understand that I should not trap myself
because of my seniority or age. A middle aged woman can still have her
own journey to walk, and the qualification to chase her dreams." Last
night Wing Yi's outfit became the focus, and she competed with Ngai Chun
Sun for the sexiest in the whole event.
As for Ngai Chun Sun's "WHITE TUXEDO", it took third place.
Although his girlfriend objected, he continued to publicly show his love
to his girlfriend on stage and won applause from the audience. "I want
to thank my company's boss, who is also my other half Fu Lin. She told
me not to say I love you on the stage, but I really love you." The
number one "Ultimate Song Award" was won by Gareth.T (Tong Ling Shan)'s
NO FULL FRONTAL.
Many singers were excited and cried when they received the
award. Kay Tse On Kay won the second place in the "Ultimate Top Ten"
with "50/50", saying that she experienced and lost a lot last year.
This song is from when she fell into an identity crisis in her 40s a few
years ago. She felt powerless about many things, had a lot of self-
doubt and struggle.
Gareth.T (Tong Ling Shan) won the Ulimate Song Award with the
hit song NO FULL FRONTAL. The award presenter Jan Lamb Hoi Fung dyed
his hair blond, appeared in a black suit and sunglasses, replicated
Tong Ling Shan's look and turned his back to the audience to "present
the award with his back". Tong Ling Shan and the creative team wore
black leather jackets with some lyrics of "NO FULL FRONTAL" printed
on the back, and sunglasses to perform the winning song. He said
that the last time he stepped on the podium was 3 years ago. Over
the past 3 years, he has met more people and learned more things.
Stepping on the podium again, he thanked the fans who like and
support him, as well as the online comments that made him work hard
to improve. "What I want to say is written in the song. I want to
thank the heartbreak of the past, which gave me the opportunity to
sing NO FULL FRONTAL." As soon as these words came out, the audience
went into an uproar.
Lam Ka Him won the Creative Singer Gold Prize and the Composer
Award. When he was announced as the "Creative Singer Gold" recipient,
Lam Ka Him looked surprised and said that he was very scared, thinking
that he did not win. He planned after clearing all the song debts on
his hands to take a break on the creative journey. Eason Chan Yik
Shun's daughter Constance (Hong Tai) won the gold prize for the rookie
female singer. She thanked the musician she has collaborated on many
songs Eason, specifically explaining, "Not my dad!" and causing the
audience to laugh. Amy Lo Wai Man and COLLAR member Day Hui Yat won
silver and bronze prizes respectively. Rookie Male Singer Gold Prize
winner was Regent Lam Wai Chun, Silver Award Edwin Tong and bronze award
Hayson Kwok Lai Hei. The gold prize of rookie group was won by IdG
Bubbles, the silver by Goodnight Lillie and the bronze by Honey Punch.
