Hong Kong film DECEPTION OF THE NOVELIST (JOK GA DIK FONG YIN: BUK JUNG YAU JUI) recently has been invited to be the closing film of Chicago's 9th Asian Pop-Up Cinema. Lead actor and producer Justin Cheung Kin Sing and director and producer Christopher Suen Lap Kei will head to the U.S. in October together to attend.

The film festival last time chose the Anthony Wong Chau Sun starred STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN). DECEPTION's selection as the closing film was very encouraging to the team. DECEPTION was a 100% domestic production. Now it would be able to go international under the Hong Kong film banner, the film company would cherish it very much. Justin admitted, "Under this moment and this environment, nothing comes easy. Just like I went to audience appreciation events whenever I had time, I believed that after trying it might not work, but not trying it definitely wouldn't work. I hope our Hong Kong film continues to shine and even break out of Asia to the U.S. This film was three years of my effort and the result of everyone on the team. I hope its box office would please the investors enough to say make a sequel."

The Stephy Tang Lai Yun, Philip Keung Ho Man starred psychological suspense crime film CHAN YING HUNG GAN (RUINDED SHADOW SPACE) earlier held a production wrap banquet, as the cast and the crew popped champagne to celebrate. Stephy has not made any music in awhile and everyone asked him to sing again. She as requested sang her Cookies era classic SUM GUP YUN SEUNG and the place went into an uproar! Then she also sang LIGHT BULB (DIN DUN DAM) with Justin Cheung Kin Sing.

Stephy joked that this time she "gave a lot of respect". "Everyone had a lot of fun, I also went crazy with everyone. Actually I expected everyone would ask me to sing my song because the venue has karaoke and the crew was very young. They always said that they grew up with my songs so I sang a little for everyone. I already gave a lot of respect, I normally wouldn't sing my song at karaoke. I hoped everyone had a good time." She admitted that she would continue to focus on her movies right now and have no plan to release any new song, but she would sing any suitable film theme song.

The film FAGARA (FA JIU JI MEI) has confirmed a simultaneous release in Hong Kong and the Mainland on September 12th. Ann Hui On Wa and Chu Ka Yi produced the film, Heiward Mak Hei Yan directed and wrote the adaptation from Cheung Siu Han's novel. Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Megan Lai and Li Xiaofeng starred.

Hui On Wa rarely produced other people's work. This time she agreed to produce mainly because she appreciated Director Mak's talent. Since watching her first film HIGH NOON (LIT YUT DONG HUNG) she has admired her very much.

Mak Hei Yan has not released a film for a long time. This time she put all of her effort into producing this film. Three actors in the film Sammi, Megan Lai and Li Xiaofeng played three half sisters who lived in three different places. When Sammi read the original work she really felt it. Her character required her to dress simply, unlike her usual image. She did not mind at all. She also was the only one who had no idea that her father had a daughter in the Mainland and in Taiwan. When her father passed, she learned from her father's mobile phone that actually she had two half sisters.

[2019.06.30] ANDY LAU PRAISES LOUIS KOO ON THEIR MOVIE THEME DUET

Director Herman Yau shows up at the studio to cheer on Louis Koo and Andy Lau

The Herman Yau Lai To directed, Andy Lau Tak Wa produced and starred with Louis Koo Tin Lok, Michael Miu Kiu Wai, and Karena Lam Yun film WHITE STORM 2 DRUG LORDS (SO DUK 2 TIN DEI DUI KUET) will open on July 16th. Two Best Actors Lau Tak Wa and Koo Tin Lok sang the film theme song BROTHERS DON'T SUSPECT (HING DAI BUK WAI YI).

The heroic duo's first duet could be considered as an injection of new power into the music market. Goo Jai first joked, "Such a big deal? Then it is quite epic! I am just singing as an amateur, don't say that." Wa Jai also joked, "I also went from an amateur to now, ha ha! Thinking back to the last song that was so strong in masculinity, it was INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) years ago with Wai Jai (Tony Leung Chiu Wai). So the current market really needs to have some masculine music and songs back." No more needed to be said about Wa Jai's massive music catalog, but has Wa Jai heard Goo Jai's music? Goo Jai asked. "Brother Wa have you listened to my songs?" Wa Jai said, "Yes! I have listened to many, but it's really hard to truly come up with a song title, hahaha. During the recording process, I knew that Goo Jai would worry about not performing well. However he underestimated himself, actually he did very well! I like the part he sang about 'relationship', everyone should make note of that." Goo Jai heard Wa Jai's grading and joked, "Then I definitely got a zero, Brother Wa got 100!"

WHITE STORM 2 DRUG LORDS was about the brotherhood between the heroic duo. The lyrics of BROTHERS DON'T SUSPECT came from one of the producer and actor Lau Tak Wa's hand. How long did Wa Jai take to write it? He said, "I really don't remember how long it took, several days probably. When I wrote it I kept thinking about the brotherhood with Goo Jai in my head, the brotherhood between me and him on and off screen! Actually the lyrics mainly wanted to say is brothers are too courteous with each other. With some stuff if they have spoken up sooner they would have been fine, but neither would say anything no matter what! In the end they would suspect each other, the relationship before then would change in nature." Did Goo Jai give any suggestion for the lyrics? Goo Jai said, "When they showed me the lyrics, my first reaction was 'Stop playing! I don't know how to sing, what suggestion would I give'!"

What was he thinking about in the studio to get into the mood? Goo Jai said, "I thought of the ending scene in the MTR. Over a decade of brotherhood was lost because no one was willing to listen."

[2019.06.27] LOUIS KOO'S LIGHT BLINDS CHERRIE YING

courtesy of singtao.com

Louis Koo Tin Lok and Cherrie Ying Choi Yi since the 2003 film WHY ME, SWEETIE? (SUT YIK GAI NUI WONG) rarely worked together. Even when they had the chance to run into each other they did not have too many scenes together. This time in the new film WHITE STORM 2 DRUG LORDS (SO DUK 2 TIN DE DUI KUET) they played rivals for the first time. As soon as they saw each other they hug.

Koo Tin Lok, Ying Choi Yi, MC Jin and Jun Kung Shek Leung in the new film WHITE STORM 2 DRUG LORDS all played drug dealers. They had their own markets. One days due to another dealer Q Bobo was killed the suspicion of someone wanted to take over the market arose. The four met at a night spot for a negotiation. That night Ying Choi Yi arrived earlier to prepare. Although she has not made a Hong Kong film in a very long time, she was more than able to handle the shoot even if it went the second day. In addition her co-star was Koo Tin Lok, a friend of many years. When they were not at work they chatted nonstop, thus time went by very fast.

Ying Choi Yi admitted that this time she agreed to perform because she received an invitation to play a character who operated a night spot. She said, "I have always wanted to play the Mamasan role, this time the character was very similar. In addition the co-star was Goo Jai. He is a Best Actor now, his entire person is shining. On the day of the shoot I could already sense his brilliance from far away!" Goo Jai said that he and Ying Choi Yi had great chemistry. She was a great co-star. He also said that they have not seen each other in a very long time, so they took the chance to catch up.

As for MC Jin and Kung Shek Leung they went to a mahjong parlor for the first time and were very curious about everything. They said that it was a lot of fun. They both were very hard working. Because they were not too familiar with their Chinese scripts, before taking their places they would be studying and often asked director Yau Lai To which tone would make them sound more like drug dealers.

Later the group went to shoot at a night spot. MC Jin and Kung Shek Leung had to act like big shots. Yet when their pronunciation was less than accura e they would keep saying sorry, which was very funny to everyone else.

Because in this scene the three of them suspected that Koo Tin Lok wanted to monopolize the drug market, the trio had to question him but was afraid to. Goo Jai before hand communicated to them that this scene would have to be very extreme, he wanted everyone to know his power. He also stressed that he did not want a monopoly and told everyone to stop speculating. Although it was a dramatic scene, it was very tense as their relationship was unveiled.

MC Jin and Kung Shek Leung both started in music so acting was not their strong suit. That night after every tabling smacking and bottle busting scene that day they would watch the playback and ask the director if they made any mistake.

Yau Lai To was pleased with their performance and the entire production process was very smooth. They even had time for one more scene in which Koo Tin Lok ran into Miu Kiu Wai.

Chan Chun Chi, Aka Chiu Wai Shan and veteran actress Sheung Yi yesterday attended the film THE LONG GOODBYE's charity premiere. Chan Chun Chi revealed that the funeral for his friend Lee Siu Kay, who passed away earlier this month would take place on either July 5th or 9th at the Diamond Hill funeral parlor with a Christina ceremony. Because they had to accommodate the cremation schedule, the date was to be determined. He said, "I represent Lee Siu Kay's family in thanking everyone for their concern. Because when he was ill his family was already mentally prepared, Brother Kay's wife has already settled down emotionally. I hope Brother Kay's friends would pay their respect in person and send flowers. I have already prepared over 200 stems of roses."

Chan Chun Chi and Lee Siu Kay have known each other for over 60 years. They grew up together. "Before his passing, I held Brother Kay's hand at the hospital and said, 'You are not a bad guy, not an addict, you are Christian.' Brother Kay looked mean but had a very gentle heart." Chan Chun Chi also praised his late friend for his film industry contributions and participation in many anti drug events. Speaking of the Hong Kong Performing Artist Guild president Louis Koo Tin Lok making contact numerous times in hopes of doing something for the funeral, Chan Chun Chi said that the funeral was already set and thanked Koo Tin Lok for his good intention. He hoped that Koo Tin Lok would be able to make time and see Brother Kay off on his final journey.

Artist Justin Cheung Kin Sing and Jeana Ho Pui Yu two nights ago attended the film DECEPTION OF THE NOVELIST (JOK GA DIK FONG YIN: BUK JUNG YAU JUI) audience appreciation event. First time producer Cheung Kin Sing stated that the box office was as expected, thus now aside from tightly following the box office trend everyday he also made surprise appearances alone at the movies for audience appreciation. He said, "I just saw a show that was almost sold out and I immediately called my colleagues to communicate with the cinema. I rushed like a mad man into the cinema. The audience was very surprised to me, which made me very sentimental. The film wasn't born in the right time. Viewers told me to go for it. I really felt every facet of emotions. I can only attend more audience appreciation events. (Did you ask your girlfriend Kelly Chen Ka Lei to go with you?) Let me face it alone!" Would this "mishap" affect his confidence for behind the scene work in the future? He stated that he indeed would make more consideration.

Busy with her film RAGING FIRE (NO FOR), Jeana revealed that working with Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung has been pleasant. She praised them for being very gentlemanly and absolutely good elders. She benefit a lot from the production experience.

Zhang Jin said that his wife already accompanied him to the premiere, only that night she felt a little under the weather and did not make an appearance. He said that earlier their daughters had hand, foot and mouth disease. At first they had no idea and took care of their daughters with any protection. Luckily they were not infected. However he and his wife took turns all nigh to give their daughters medicine and take their temperature. His wife was also very exhausted. He said, "When I see my daughters sick it's very hard to take inside, but after learning what kind of illness it is I am not too worried. I am used to the kids getting sick, I am only afraid that I am not at my best when I make appearances. I can take it though!"

Speaking of working with MMA champion Anderson Silva for the first time, Zhang Jin said that he was an actual champion. It was his first movie so it had certain degree of difficult. The level of the danger was high as well, because he was used to competitive fight they could easily get hurt if they did not have a good grasp. He said, "However in the end we still had to fight topless, we couldn't add padding and had to take the hits. It felt like I fought many fights!" Did he notice the audience's reviews? Zhang Jin said that he also hoped that the audience would like it. He would humbly and sensibly watch everyone's sincere critique, only that way would he improve.

The 13th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival closing ceremony and award presentation took place two nights ago to promote domestic film and short film creativity, discover and cultivate potential young film creative talent. The award presentation received support from Johnnie To Kei Fung, Tsui Hark and Louis Koo Tin Lok. Fresh Wave chair To Kei Fung thanked Koo Tin Lok for his support as well as Lau Kam Hung for his donation fund development operation. To Kei Fung even encouraged young directors of participating projects and wished that they would be able to shine brightly in the film industry.

Guest presenter Tsui Hak also said that he watched many short films that moved him. Although no exciting visuals appeared, new directors represented new hope. Film has always represented the breathing of the times, the speed of memory, the comforting of the soul; it also has recorded historical era, society, culture, given the next generation the emotions to thin. Thus asset was also very important. No matter who was right or wrong today, in the future one wave would still follow another and add even more excitement ot this era.

The Law Wing Cheong directed Hong Kong guide dog film LITTLE Q (SIU Q) will open in August. Two days ago the director along with actors Simon Yam Tat Wa, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Law Chung Him, Mainland actor Yuan Shanshan, Hu Ming and Singapore resident Charlie Yeung Choi Nei attended a charity event in Shanghai to begin the film promotion! Everyone shared their production experience. Leung Wing Kei even revealed that at home she would be "searched", which made her give her dog psychological therapy.

Guide dogs dedicated their lives to visually impaired people in need and should have the love of the public. Everyone involved in the LITTLE Q production hoped to be able to make this type of community knowledge common and took on a sense of duty! Lead actor Yam Tat Wa strongly expressed his wish. "Three months before work began, the director arranged for me to be blindfolded and asked me to find over 20 different items in a room in three minutes. Because I couldn't see, I fully experienced the fear that the character felt when he lost his sight." Brother Wa had the most scenes with dogs in the film. In order to deepen the experience, the team arranged for him to take the dogs home and live with them. He described this experience with a professional term, "We are a successful pair!" Brother Wa even demonstrated commands with the guide dog and won applause from the crowd.

Artist Max Zhang Jin, UFC champion Anderson Silva and director Fruit Chan Gor yesterday attended the film INVINCIBLE DRAGON (GAU LUNG BUK BAI)'s Shanghai press conference. Silva changed his champion image to play cute and even posed for photos with Zhang Jin at the request of fans and made them laugh. Zhang Jin was still shaken when he recalled one of the fight scenes. "I am afraid of heights, in one scene I was on four wires. When I rolled out my leg was tangled and got sliced into. Luckily they didn't tangle around my neck, otherwise I would have to say goodbye to my wife."

Kenny Wong Tak Bun yesterday attended the 12th Hong Kong book prize as a guest presenter. He said that he had a habit of going to bookstores and buy books, in particular as an actor he would buy books for more information to help with his performance.

Tak Bun lately performed in the Benny Chan Muk Sing directed film. In the film he worked with Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, naturally action scenes would be lacking. Since he was in such good shape he would be able to handle it. He said, "Ten years ago I would have been able to, but for now I am still fine with gun fight scenes. I hope the large scale action ending would not be too rough!" After that film, Tak Bun would work on another crime film. He probably would not have time to rest in the summer. He joked that did not matter since he was making a living. Since leaving TVB his film offers have been endless, so it was an opportunity of officially making money? Tak Bun said, "Earlier years ago maybe I wasn't mature enough, it's all fate!" Did MEN ON THE DRAGON (YIK LAU DAI SHOOK) help him a lot? He admitted that the audience felt that he was more action before. Reporters joked that now everyone also knew he was an "uncle". He said, "I have been an uncle for a very long time, actually I give the audience more variety!"
