MEN ON THE DRAGON and TRACEY teams celebrate courtesy of on.cc
The film MEN ON THE DRAGON (YIK LAU DAI SHOOK) and TRACEY
(CHUI SZE) performed well and received good word of mouth with awards
from all over. Boss Louis Koo Tin Lok two nights ago held a celebration
to thank the casts and the crews. MEN ON THE DRAGON's director Sunny
Chan Kam Sun after attending posted a photo with Goo Jai online. "How
many likes can this 3AM photo con? After two years and several meetings,
I still didn't dare to ask him for a photo. Tonight I finally did. Thank
you Mr. Koo. You were willing to support this film, which changed my
life."
Philip Keung Ho Man, Ben Yuen Fu Wa, Kara Wai Ying, and Kenny
Wong Tak Bun attended as well. Yuen Fu Wa earlier won the Golden Horse
Award and the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor. He rushed over
from his play rehearsal and brought his two awards. Everyone was happy
for him and asked him for photos. Originally already overseas, film
company boss Koo Tin Lok also flew back to Hong Kong. Yuen Fu Wa stated
that he was very touched. "I brought the two awards to take photos with
Mr. Koo. Because of his investment in the film, he has a part in the
two awards! He really was thoughtful, when you saw him you knew he was
a little tired. I asked him if he wanted to eat and he said he was very
sleepy. (Did you discuss working together again?) We mentioned it. I
saw him in close negotiation with the director. I believe with the
suitable character we definitely will have a chance to work together
again."
The Wong Jing and Jason Kwan Chi Yiu directed, four Best
Actors Tony Leung Ka Fai, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Simon Yam
Tat Wa starred the film CHASING THE DRAGON II: WILD WILD BUNCH (JUI LUNG
II: CHAK WONG) two days ago held a WILD WILD BUNCH appearance release
date announcement event in Beijing. Executive producers Wong Jing, Yu
Dong, and director Kwan Chi Yiu, star Leung Ka Fai, Koo Tin Lok and
Sabrina Qiu appeared.
Director Wong Jing said, "CHASING THE DRAGON itself was a
trailblazing challenge. I was very happy that it received the
audience's love and recognition. We made the new CHASING THE DRAGON film
in hopes of doing more contribution in the revival of Hong Kong film."
The two directors worked together again on the second film of the CHASING
THE DRAGON film series and certainly would be able to make another eye
catching epic.
For the audience understand the film and the characters better,
the stars at the beginning the event began to reveal each other's secrets.
Leung Ka Fai said that Koo Tin Lok in the film had a "fairy shed tear"
scene. When he saw him cry he was very heartbroken. Koo Tin Lok joked,
"Brother Ka Fai in the film is very rich, so much so that he can pile it
up into construction models."
Kara Wai Ying Hung with her excellent performance in the
film TRACEY (CHUI SZE) won the Hong Kong Film Award and Asian Film Award
Best Supporting Actress. Last night a celebration was held. Attendees
included her THE DEFECTED (TEET TAM) co-stars Sharon Chan Man Chi, Shek
Sau, Oscar Leung King Fai, Ben Wong Chi Yin and friends Maria Chung Wai
Bing, Candy Man Suet Yee.
Sister Hung happily said that last night was the first celebration
dinner after her award. She invited her friends and the media. "I don't
have many friends, I have some generation gap with young people!" Then
how would she get a new boyfriend? Sister Hung said, "Whether I get
married or not it's none of your business, maybe I am already secretly
married! I have an illegitimate daughter (dog), actually I am not in a
hurry!" She also said that she was very happy to see decade old friends.
"Everyone is alive and kicking, which is great joy. Last year several
friends passed away. Normally we would be working and might not have a
chance to sit down and have dinner!"
After the award Sister Hung said that she did not deliberately
increase her salary. She also forgot how long has it been since her last
raise. "I have always leaned toward the super low side, I just want to
haggle like I am at the butcher stall. My price is clearly labeled. If
I am forced or unhappy then I wouldn't do it. As long as everyone is
happy, I don't mind. It's mutual respect!"
Adam Cheng Siu Chau's new Viu TV series PSYCHO DETECTIVE 2 (NGAI
TAM CHIN JUEN) premiered last night opposite THE DEFECTED. Sister Hung
said that THE DEFECTED last night just reached its climax, so she
believed that it would have habitual viewing. However viewers would be
able to watch all the programs online. Sister Hung was called the
spoiler king, which she said that spoilers did not affect the actors'
performance. She was confident that people would accept the story even
after they found out about it. Sister Hung said that this time she
really was popular. Once she went to walk her dog, someone screamed
from behind her character name. She was afraid that they would throw
something at her, but actually it was a supporter. Some Mainland viewers
said that they really hated her. "Some even asked when I would die and
called me a old vicious woman. Vicious woman wasn't enough, they even
added the word old. However at the movies a young person told me I was
the pride of women, that I was a role model. So I was happy!"
Teresa Mo Shun Kwan yesterday worked on a commercial.
Last year Sister Mo became a Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress, did she
get a raise? Sister Mo said that it was about the heart and not money.
"Dr. Chan is my benefactor. Back then my younger daughter had the swine
flu, few dared to treat her and said that she had to be quarantined. Dr.
Chan saved my younger daughter. Then I asked Dr. Chan needed a
spokesperson because I couldn't think of any way to return the favor. Of
course I still got paid. We have been working together ever since."
Would she appear in the commercial with her daughter? Sister Mo declined.
"I wouldn't ask her to, Dr. Chan didn't ask and knew that my daughters
don't like to be on camera."
Sister Mo said that she also had to take care of her cookie shop
business. Although business has been good, she has not broken even yet
because she invested a lot into it. Would she be more cautious with her
script selection now? Sister Mo said, "When I take a role the script has
to be right for me. I have always been very cautious with script
selection. I really want a good script, because one shot would be
enough to hit -- like TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY (WONG GUM FA) and STILL
HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN). (No script has been able to move you yet?) I am
in discussion."
The Steven Ma Chun Wai written, directed and starred film TILL
WE MEET AGAIN (SUN CHIN YEUK SEI HAU) has already completed its pre
production work. Earlier each actors participated in their first table
read. From the stage to the screen, the only constant would be lead
actress Josephine Koo Mei Wa as she would continue her mother and son
relationship with Ma Jai. "Sister Mei Wa definitely is the only choice.
She has already signed my company as her manage. In the future we would
have even more opportunities to work together. I am also very grateful to
my team, for making everything go so smoothly."
Aside from the several stage actors, this film would also add
some new actors like Jennifer Yu Heung Yi and Himmy Wong Ting Him. For
his first movie Ma Jai not only would have to keep his attention on
multiple on and off screen roles but also commander the entire set, which
to Ma Jai would absolutely be a huge challenge. "If I say I have no
pressure it would be a lie, but my pressure is positive. I won't have
negativity, no matter what I would continue my journey on the stage. I
already have many scripts in discussion, I hope everyone would support
me, support domestic creativity even more, and support Hong Kong film to
break out into the world." Koo Mei Wa said, "Stage and film are different
media, with the stage experience last time, this time the film would feel
like a review. For me, making the movie would be much more relaxed. This
film would add some characters, most would be newcomers I don't know.
They are very young and energetic, I like Yu Heung Yi this naturally
pretty girl."
Andy Lau Tak Wa, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei,
Kenny Wong Tak Bun, Raymond Chiu Wing Hung, Zhang Yang yesterday worked on
an explosion scene for the film SHOCK WAVE 2 (CHAK DAN JUEN GA 2) in Tsim
Sha Tsui East. The team not only used many police vehicles, ambulances
bomb disposal vehicles and sandbags bu also 50 extras.
Under the 31 degree Celsius heat, Wa Jai not only had to wear the
full uniform but also had to carry a hand grenade into a sandbag pit
for detonation. The drenched Wa Jai had to run back and forth and lie on
the ground for the shoo. Yet many angle shots were done with one take.
Ching Wan and Wa Jai worked together again after 17 years but on and off
cameras they were full of chemistry.
Because the shoot took place on the streets, many looked on.
Some pedestrians even kept screaming, "Wa Jai, Lau Tak Wa!" Although the
shoot schedule was very intense, the always friendly Wa Jai waved to the
crowd.
Chrissie Chau Sau Na and Adam Pak Tin Nam yesterday
attended a watch event. Yesterday was also Pak Tin Nam's 37th
birthday. He said that this was his first birthday at work in his
career. Today he would make time to celebrate with fans. As for
birthday wish, he said that he wanted to work more and would like to
learn more from elder Chau Sau Na. Pak Tin Nam said that he and Sister
Na have worked together on a movie, but that time they did not have too
many scenes together. He would like to be able to make a romance with
her. Would he get shy on a romance? He said that when he would be in
character he probably would not, but he might from seeing Sister Na before
the shoot.
Chau Sau Na has been single for awhile, but believed that a
romance would be just as easy to get into. Mainly she would be very
happy as she would feel like love nourished her. Since she has not
dated for so long, she could only be romantic on the set. Sister Na
admitted that she had suitors but being with them required time. Perhaps
she also has gotten used to living alone. If she had to adjust to a
person anew sometimes she would rather choose to be friends. When she
would have dinner with friends they would occasionally introduce her to
people, which instead would feel very awkward.

Friends OF ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT 2019 Dinner took place
two nighs ago in Tsim Sha Tsui, Yeung Pan Pan, Lau Fung Ping, Nat Chan Pak
Cheung, Wong Hung Sau, Melvin Wong Kam Sun, Ng Lai Chu and other veteran
actors attended. Pan Pan was walking with a cane, which she said was
unrelated to her earlier on set burns. She just took the opportunity to
correct some bone bruise from over the years.
Yeung Pan Pan said since going behind the scene, she walked too
much and had a lot of bruises. Earlier in the year she replaced the
right femur in Taiwan, which was slowly recovering. "I was afraid that
I wouldn't be able to walk at all, so I didn't dare to have (the
operation). Actually on the second day I already no longer hurt, I was
able to walk and even better than before. The doctor said that I could
be on the wire again, but I would leave that to the younger generation.
I would only be responsible for designs and training." Yeung Pan Pan also
said that after the operation she did not stop working. Originally she
would have operation on both femurs, but because she would have film
promotions she would wait until later for the other side.
STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) actors Anthony Wong Chau Sau Sun
and Himmy Wong Ting Him yesterday attended a Baptist University film
forum. As of two days ago (the 25th) the film has accumulated over HK$
1,200. With the foreign film AVENGERS: ENDGAME on the way, its single
day still made over HK$ 270,000. Chau Sun said about the performance,
"Congratulation." With only bonus from working for zero salary, how
much bonus did Chau Sun get? He said, "I don't know how much yet, but I
will be more careful from now on. I can't underestimate any movie. I
thought the movie would leave the theater after three days; but since its
April 11th release to now, even with an opponent as strong as AVENGERS:
ENDGAME the cinemas are still full."
Chau Sun would head to Italy to attend the Udine Far East Film
Festival for his achievement excellence award. Chau Sun said that for him
to receive such a honor in such a young age, like gout and high blood
pressure it was trending younger. Chau Sun said that of course he was
happy about receiving recognition from filmmakers. Many people said that
they wanted to take him to dinner, like Candy Yu On On and Teresa Mo Shun
Kwan. He also wanted to take his friends like Dayo Wong Tze Wah, Francis
Ng Chun Yu, Sean Lau Ching Wan and Cheung Tat Ming to dinner. He said,
"Everyone is happy for me, Tat Ming joked that I won't get hired in Hong
Kong and told him to break out of Asia."
Philip Keung Ho Man yesterday attended an event in Tsim
Sha Tsui. He said that he was not disappointed that he did not win the
Hong Kong Film Award with TRACEY (CHUI SZE), because Kara Wai Ying Hung
and Ben Yuen Fu Wa won with the film. If the film had no award then it
would be worse. Hak Jai said, "I will win again in a few years, give me
a little more time. Now I have several scripts in discussion. Later I
will work with (Stephy) Tang Lai Yan on a crime film and play a cop."
Hak Jai also revealed that he just finished the Han Sanping
produced war film LIBERATED. He said that he has always wanted to make a
war film. This time he was the happiest about the change to sit inside a
tank. "Although I wasn't driving, I was responsible for the cannon. It
was a lot of fun, but one explosion scene was terrifying. Since the
explosive smell was inside the vehicle, I couldn't breathe and almost
wanted to die." He said that this time he played a playboy officer. Was
he like that in real life? He denied, "Of course not."
Recently the Hong Kong Stuntman Association and Beijing
Jizhi Yingxiang Entertainment Co. Ltd. produced a documentary about
stuntmen, which released its first poster. It revolved around "Never Say
No", which was the motto of stunt people's life risking performance in
fights, building jumps, car chases, fire and other thrilling stuns. Andy
Lau Tak Wa personally wrote the calligraphy for the title. Director Wei
Junzi admitted, "Hong Kong action films were the most memorable screen
silver memories when I was growing up. Now I am already 40, I would
always think of those most legendary action filmmakers and what kind of
lives would they have? In addition very few people have mentioned the
blood and tears of stunt people, so I decided to make this documentary."
Finally he spent two years, interviewed and shot almost 100 stunt elders
and newcomers for a complete overview of stun people and uncover the
silver screen journey of the "heroes". Wei Junzi revealed that this was
the first documentary to completely uncover the 70 years of changes for
Hong Kong stunt people. "Whether it was in the past or now, the
contribution and the spirit of stunt people were worthy of being
continued and chronicled." The film will open this year in the Mainland.

Cheong-wing is a paralyzed man who has lost his family. Evelyn is a young woman who abandoned her dreams and her home to make a living abroad. Two people outcast and overlooked by society are brought together by fate when one enters the other's home to work as a domestic helper. Their co-habitation gets off a rocky start, but they develop a bond as they slowly come to see beyond each other's superficial qualities.
The Dante Lam Chiu Yin directed Emperor Motion Picture
OPERATION RED SEA made 3.65 billion RMB and had great word of mouth. Lam
Chiu Yin followed up with the sea rescue film THE RESCUE (GUP GUNG GAU
WOON) with Eddie Peng Yu-Yan, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Ian Wang Yanlin, Xin
Zhilei, Wang Yutian and others. The film shot on location in Xiamen,
Fuzhou, and Mexico and would likely bring more visual surprises to the
audience.
Lam Chiu Yim admitted that 5 years ago when he worked with Chan
Ka Lok on TO THE FORE (POR FUNG), Chan was more immature but he paid
attention to his performance at work. This time he felt Ka Lok was much
more mature. Speaking of the RESCUE costing over 7 million RMB, did he
feel any pressure? Lam Chiu Yin stated that whether the film budget
was large or small the production would still have pressure. He wanted to
make the film a success. He said, "This film had its script even earlier
than OPERATION RED SEA, but I kept thinking about how I would make it. I
didn't dare to make it either. Finally I thought of how to make it, but
indeed it would require a lot of money. At the time I said if I didn't
have the money I wouldn't make this movie, because the result would not
meet the quality that the audience would need."
As for casting, Xin Zhilei was the only actress. Lam Chiu Yin
said that he was never a chauvinist. For each film he would want to
create a very strong girl and felt that with gender equality in modern
society she would be able to work well in a rescue team. Thus each time
he cast he would like to find an actor with determine. He said, "I am not
too familiar with Mainland actors, but the producer would pay attention
more. She felt that Xin Zhilei was great. After watching her performance
in I AM THE ACTOR she really caught my eyes. Wang Yanlin had very little
screen time in OPERATION RED SEA but made the character very strong,
which was his contribution to the role. I am after actors like these who
would give them all without any regret. I feel he is the person I need
in the movie."
Working with the "Demon Director" Lam Chiu Yin again, Wang Yanlin
said the directors' demand for his actors were no considered demon like.
Instead he felt that he was treating myself more like a demon. The
director would personally try each scene himself, whether it was an
explosive or a fire. Thus they did not dare to avoid it. Wang Yanlin
said that for this performance he took flying lessons. In a piloting
scene, originally they asked Xin Zhilei to give it a try but she really
went to pilot the plane. Everyone was frightened and screamed for her not
to. Working with Lam Chiu Yin for the first time, Xin Zhilei said that
it was rather comfortable. Because in the film she had to pilot a plane
and dive, she learned a lot. If she did not participate in this film she
would not have the chance to learn. Everyone would also be able to see
her other side on the screen.
Ka Lok worked with Lam Chiu Yin on TO THE FORE (POR FUNG) but
during the shoot Ka Lok had an accident and broke his left arm. Working
together again, Ka Lok stated that he needed to adjust mentally. Because
the last time he was too nervous and excited, he overlooked safety. This
time he would ensure that he would be fully prepared and at the same time
clearly know what he would need to do at each scene. He also trained
fully before hand. He said, "However the director would personally try
the scene himself, he even descended from the plane on a rope himself.
Everyone was very confident, so we didn't get to skip anything. It also
made us very united!"
AVENGERS: ENDGAME has such a strong box office momentum
around the world, many movies are avoiding it. The Wong Kar Wai produced
new film JINPA opens in the same period as AVENGERS in the Mainland. When
he attended its premiere he felt that the two films did not conflict and
people could watch both. Wong Kar Wai had a lot of confidence in JINPA.
He said that the release date was set long ago, before AVENGERS set its
release. Wong Kar Wai felt that then all the films of the same period
skipped the slot. Of course JINPA could have gone too, but where would it
go? In addition in today's market, art film has limited space. They
fought very hard for an exclusive art cinema circuit. If they chose to
retreat, basically they would be give up on themselves. He continued,
"In this era we need heroes, in this era we also need faith. A faithless
hero is just a pile of robots."
Some said that the Fruit Chan Gor directed, Max Zhang Jin and
Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) starred INVINCIBLE DRAGON (GAU LUNG BUK BAI)
originally was slated for a May 1st release in the Mainland but suddenly
announced it was postponed until June, seemingly avoiding AVENGERS.
Pegasus Motion Pictures boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming said to the media, "I
am not too sure about the reason for the Mainland's release date change.
I have received the news that it would be changed to June, so Hong Kong
would release the film around the same time to avoid piracy."
AVENGERS yesterday occupied more than 80% of the Mainland
show times, reportedly the movie with the most in recent history.
The Tsui Hark produced, Daniel Lee Yan Kong directed, Wu
Jing, Zhang Ziyi, Zhang Yi, Jing Boran, Hu Ge starred, Jackie Chan
guest starred new film CLIMBERS earlier held the highest altitude
production wrap ceremony at the Everest base camp.
After completing the final shoot of the film, producer Tsui Hark
led stars Wu Jing, Zhang Yi and others formed "climber alliance" to attend
the production wrap ceremony. Everyone shared other production
experience. The film even announced that it will open officially on
September 30th this year and released two film posters. Wu Jing at the
high altitude required oxygen to fight high altitude illness.
This Easter Hong Kong's overall film market declined from
the same period last year. According to the Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd.
the total box office of the Easter holiday period (April 19th to 22nd) was
HK$ 29,513,746, 13.42% decline from last year in the same period. On top
of the box office was the winner of 3 Hong Kong Film Awards including Best
Actor, STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN). Over 4 days it made HK$6,021,786 and
its cumulative box office (as of the 22nd) was HK$ 11,466,093. In second
place was the animated film THE QUEEN's CORGI with HK$ 3,436,537, in third
place was the foreign film HOTEL MUMBAI. Another Hong Kong film P STORM
(P FUNG BO) was in fourth place with HK$ 2,888,949 and reached HK$
16,891,416 in total. In fifth place was the foreign film THE CURSE OF THE
LLORONA with HK$ 2,341,970.
The 68 year old former Hong Kong Film Award Best
Supporting Actor Shum Wai earlier due to pneumonia and respiratory
system failure fell into a coma and was rushed to a Beijing hospital.
After numerous efforts and his daughter's company he finally gradually
awoke. Yesterday his friend Yang Yi who has been taking care of him
claimed that Shum Wai was no longer in critical condition.
While at the hospital Shum Wai had problems with the medical
bills. Finally many in show business sent assistance. Yang Yi revealed
that the Performing Artist Guild president Louis Koo Tin Lok followed up
with Shum Wai's condition daily and already sent representatives to visit
him.

STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) won the Hong Kong Film Awards for
Best Actor, Best New Actor, and Best New Director. After 11 days in
release, it made over HK$ 10 million. STILL HUMAN officially opened on
April 11th, as of the 21st it remained the single day box office
champion for a week; in addition, yesterday STILL HUMAN's Crisel Consunji
and Himmy Wong Ting him personally attended an audience appreciation
even. Crisel was happy to see how popular the film has become and hoped
that Filipino as well as the foreign maid communities in Hong Kong would thus
receive more attention and more people could hear their voices.

Faye Wong's daughter Leah Dou Ching Tung made her film
debut in the Chen Jianbin directed film THE ELEVENTH CHAPTER, which
immediately brought her first film award. Two nights ago she
appeared at the Beijing International Film Festival closing ceremony to
accept her Best Supporting Actress award. Tung Tung said that she was
happy to see her grandmother witnessing her award acceptance on
television without blinking, as she has never seen her grandmother so
happy.
Tung Tung said, "Thank you jury, thank you for your recognition.
Thank you director Mr. Chen Jianbin, and everyone who have contributed to
this film. I hope to have the chance to keep making movies in the
future."
"Thank you again to the Beijing International Film Festival jury,
and all the elders. I would also like to thank everyone who have
contributed to the film. This experience to me is very valuable. By
doing this, some of my preconceived notions have been broken. I feel
this is a very valuable lesson, from which have learned a lot. Thank you
very much to Mr. Chen Jianbin, and Ms. Zhou Xun for their guidance to me
during the shoot, as well as support and encouragement. As for later, I
feel I should take one step at a time and focus on what I am doing right
now."
As for characters that she would like to try in the future, she
said, "I don't have any idea about what kind of character I want to try,
if I run into one that I like then I would try it." She again thanked
the Beijing International Film Festival. "Because I have never seen my
grandmother this happy, my grandmother is watching the television at home
without blinking at all. Haha, so I am very grateful for her to be able
to experience this feeling." THE ELEVENTH CHAPTER starred Zhou Xun. Tung
Tung in the film played mother and daughter with her. Chen Jianbin in
the film played Tung Tung's father and Zhou Xun's husband.
