The anti extradition storm caused protests and conflicts have endured for over five months and only gotten worse. Every business has been affected, and the film industry was no exception. Aside from film companies afraid of starting production, Hong Kong film releases have also become cannon fodder with poor box office results.

The Gillian Chung Yun Tung starred film MISSING (SUK JUNG) and the Alex Lam Tak Shun starred LION ROCK (SI JI SHAN SEUNG) opened two days ago and their opening day box office was brutal as the numbers were only in several tens of thousands. MISSING took in HK$ 52,377 on the single day, LION ROCK was even worse as it only made HK$ 24,191. The Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai starred GUILT BY DESIGN (CHUI MIN CHOI KUET) after 8 days in release although performed better at the single day box office with HK$ 145,479, its cumulative box office had a disappointing showing of HK$ 3.2 million. Two days ago two foreign films opened, FORD V. FERRARI and CHARLIE'S ANGELS. Both performed better than the 3 aforementioned Hong Kong films. FORD made HK$ 334,120 while CHARLIE'S made HK$ 320,117, but for Hollywood films their performance was still less than ideal.
