MIRROR member Anson Kong Yip Sang starred horror film BACK HOME (CHUT YUET FAN GUI) two nights ago held its official premiere at apm. Stars Tai Bo, Helen Tam Yuk Ying and Shirley Sham Yan Yee all appeared on the stage, several hundred fans were also on hand to cheer for AK. Admitting to being afraid of ghosts, AK revealed that during the shoot they rented an industrial building to construct the housing estate set. The set constantly had people coming and going, and was stuffy and hot. He could not think about anything else already. He was not afraid even when going to the bathroom because outside were filled with people. He was left not knowing how to be scared. He even dared to say that in the future he could follow up with another and another, just no ghost hunting shows. On the other hand while shooting a trapped in the elevator scene he could not even see his own fingers. At the time he was a little frightened.

During the shoot has anything strange happened? He said, "No, instead earlier when we went to Korea for training, in the room I saw a blur of a group mat sitting at the foot of my bed and drinking water. The next day I asked him, but he actually said that never happened." As for box office performance and audience appreciation problems, AK admitted that, "If time would permit, I would like to attend more audience appreciation events and get an understanding of the audience's feeling. I have box office pressure, the pressure comes from everyone's comparison."

In response to MIRROR's award show absence, AK said that the media should not ask Frankie but members with "flowers on their shoulders". Some online felt that he was belittling him. AK said, "They really don't know how deep my friendship with Frankie is, you want to affect us with a few words? It's impossible!" November would be MIRROR's 5th anniversary, he said about anniversary activities. "We would give pleasant surprises to our fans. (The rumor is you would hold activities at a theme park?) I don't know yet, let me crack a peanut. Everyone ask captain Lokman." He has been said to resemble a family of four with co-star Sham Yan Yee and the two child stars. AK said that they have known each other for a very long time. In the film he would try to break up mother and son.

Once linked in rumors with AK, Sham Yan Yee revealed that they would have scenes together in the film but they would not play a couple. Would she accept playing a couple? Sham Yan Yee said, "It doesn't matter, it depends on the company's arrangement. More opportunities to perform is still good." This time she would play a very alternative, heart chilling mother. She said, "I love him so much I can just eat him up! (Would you be like this as a Mommy?) I don't know yet, but I probably wouldn't be so possessive."

The Vincent Kok Tak Chiu's ViuTV program THE POPCORN SHOW on September 2nd had the film IT REMAINS (YEUNG WON)'s actors MIRROR member Anson Lo Hon Ting, Tommy Chu Pak Hong, Lam Yiu Sing, Summer Chan Chi Huen and director Sham Ka Yin as his guests. On the program Kok Tak Chu kept asking Anson Lo questions and neglected other guests. When the program ended he even said, "The Anson Lo interview has come to an end, thank you everyone for watching." Some online aired their displeasure, saying that the film promotion became Anson Lo's personal interview. Other guests said less than a few sentences, sat throughout the program and became the background. They were embarrassed for them and kept commenting to express their displeasure.

Kok Tak Chiu responded on his social media platform and admitted that the program after editing obviously neglected several guests, especially Chan Chi Huen and Lam Yiu Sing. He was very sorry, but due to limited time he hoped in the future he would have the opportunity to make it up to them. He also added the content of their interviews in writing in the post.

ViuTV yesterday released an extended version online. Kok Tak Chiu asked them about their past fears. Lam Yiu Sing was afraid of flying cockroaches. Summer was afraid of moths and cardboard, because when she was little she fell and got a cut on her face from cardboard. Chu Pak Hong joked that he was afraid of being broke. Anson Lo was the most afraid of fish head, because when he was little he had over 10 gold fishes. When the family came back from vacation, all of them were dead and only left with their heads. He still has the trauma today and has yet to overcome it.

Anson Lo also performed "being possessed" and said that he had to stretch out his neck first to prevent pulling anything. The entire audience followed along. He also mentioned the pain of having more and more pressure after getting into the business, because when he first got into the business all the comments about his appearane, acting, etc, but in recent years many have become personal attacks. Even family and pets were affected. Although he could choose to filter them, feeling bad has been inevitable.

Tony Leung Chiu Wai last night at the Venice Film Festival received the lifetime achievement Golden Lion award. In the afternoon he first met with guest award presenter, Taiwan director Ang Lee, and mainland star Hu Ge at a party to catch up and attended a press conference. Wai Jai talked about his years of experience in the business. When asked about playing the villain in his new film THE GOLDFINER (GUM SAU JI), he admitted that playing the villain was very challenging. "I don't know why people always ask me to play the good guy. This time it's the opposite. 20 years after INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH), I play the bad guy. It really is very challenging." As for his future plans, he said, "I never plan anything. If something interesting happens, then why not?"

Wai Jai became the first Chinese actor in history to receive the honor, which director Ang Lee presented . Ang Lee in 2005 with BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN won the Venice Film Festival Golden Lion, and Wai Jai has worked with director Ang Lee on the film LUST, CAUTION (SIK GAI), which also won the Golden Lion and made Ang Lee presenting the Lifetime Achievement award to Wai Jai even more meaningful. Wai Jai was even moved to tears upon receiving the honor. About Ang Lee's praises, he sentimentally said, "You are going to make me cry." He also thanked his wife Carina Lau Ka Ling for her support over the years.

Ang Lee said, "Leung Chiu Wai has won many awards and honor, all of which well deserved because he has been able to elevate every movie. In my personal experience, he is a director's dream. In his eyes is something that can move people's hearts, not only referring to his eyes and his acting; but from his eyes you can see a shining soul. One look from him is able to express more than long monologues from many actors, then he would be able to lead you through his soul to dream and to imagine."

Ang Lee's words made Wai Jai cry, as on stage he could not help but wipe away his tears. He said that he wanted to thank all the directors, filmmakers, and even made special mention of Lau Ka Ling for her support and love over the years. "Thank you to such a respected director and friend Ang Lee for those beautiful praises. Thank you Venice, it's a great honor. Thank you to my wife, family and friends around the world, thank you to the Hong Kong film industry for cultivating him. I want to share this award with everyone I have worked with over 41 years, and dedicate it to Hong Kong film! Thank you!"

Wai Jai before the award ceremony first met with the media. In a pair of mismatched sneakers Wai Jai kept flashing his mesmerizing smile. At the press conference he happily said, "I feel deeply honored. I have always wanted a Venice Gold Lion award. Now I have one, and it's all mine. I don't need to share it with anyone."

In the past when typhoons struck Hong Kong, going to the movies was the past entertainment. However this time with the Super Typhoon Saola, the tropical cyclone signal number 9 was raised and affected the cinemas. Around 6PM all cinemas had to close and many films' box office was affected. Among them ONPAKU made HK$ 35,000, and ECHOES OF THE THUNDER (CHOOK JIN) made HK$ 16,000 in brutal performance. Josie Ho Chiu Yi has been promoting hard for ONPAKU. Originally scheduled to visit cinemas for audience appreciation two days ago, after communicating with the cinemas the shows were postponed out of an abundance of caution. She said that she felt disappointed and sorry, but reminded everyone to stay home.

[2023.09.02] HONG KONG FILMS HAVE LACKLUSTER BOX OFFICE PERFORMANCE

The Josie Ho produced and starred ONPAKU has an opening that falls short of expectation

The Anson Lo starred IT REMAINS makes HK$ 3.8 million after 8 days
courtesy of mingpao.com

The Josie Ho Chiu Yi starred film ONPAKU opened two days ago and only reached HK$ 100,000 for its single day box office. Released on the same day, the Carlos Chan Ka Lok and Kara Wai Ying Hung starred ECHOES OF THE THUNDER (CHOOK JIN)'s single day take including previews was only HK$ 150,000. On the other hand foreign film THE EQUALIZER 3 made HK$ 450,000 to become the single day opening box office champion.

Actually recent Hong Kong film box office has been disappointing. The MIRROR member Anson Lo Hon Ting starred IT REMAINS (YEUNG WON) opened on August 24th. With a group of fans' show booking support, its opening and previews made over HK$1.1 million. However the film ran out of momentum, after 8 days it accumulated HK$ 3.2 million. Two days ago it made 230,000 in a single day; to pump up the box office, Anson Lo originally was scheduled to visit cinemas with Chu Pak Hong and Summer Chan Chi Huen today for audience appreciation events, but the super typhoon Saola has messed up the plan and postponed the visits.

FAR, FAR AWAY (LUEN LO SHAN KA LA)'s director Amos Why (Wong Ho Yin)'s new film EVERYPHONE EVERYWHERE (CHUEN GOR SAI GAI DOH YAU DIN WA) also has not performed up to box office expectation. As of two days ago, after 15 days in release it has accumulated HK$ 1.54 million at the box office - still very distant from its HK$ 7 million goal. However Wong Ho Yin was not completely disappointed, "My first film DOT 2 DOT (DIM DUI DIM) made less than 600,000 over two months. My second film NAPPING KID (YIK HEUNG YAU GWAI) in two months hasn't reached HK$ 1.2 million. This time with the fourth film, after 8 days it has already exceeded HK$ 1.2 million. Actually the improvement has been huge."

The Louis Koo Tin Lok and Julian Cheung Chi Lam starred DEATH NOTICE (UM SAT FUNG BO) after 14 days in release made HK$ 4.44 million. The quartet ERROR starred YUM INVESTIGATION (YUM MUK JING SHUN) over 22 days made HK$ 3.6 million. Goo Jai. The Sean Lau Ching Wan and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred THE WHITE STORM 3: HEAVEN OR HELL (SO DUK 3: YUN JOI TIN NGAI) has made 285 million yuan RMB in the mainland, and in Hong Kong after 36 days made HK$ 14.6 million.

[2023.09.02] JENNIFER YU REGAINS SELF CONFIDENCE FROM ONE DAY CAMEO

Although it was just one scene, it had enormous meaning to Jennifer Yu
courtesy of on.cc

Jennifer Yu Heung Ying and Fish Liew Chi Yu reunited on the film LONELY EIGHTEEN (NGOR MOON DIK SUP BAK SHUI). Guest starring in one scene for the film, Jennifer revealed that the day of the shoo was very memorable because it was her first return to film since giving birth to her daughter Clare. The process even brought back many memories from her film movie. "SISTERHOOD (GWUT MUI) was my first film in the business, which was directed by LONELY's director. Working together again had a very familiar feeling. Although it was just an one scene cameo, during the shoot I had very low confidence in myself. After just giving birth, on my first return to the set I was questioning myself. Would the camera be very strange after not making a movie in so long? How would my acting be, or whether my appearance has already returned its best? I had a lot of anxiety, but when I faced the director all the anxiety disappeared." Playing a manager, Fish said that she really sympathized with the protagonist that brought out memories of her start in the business for her.
