The brotherhood of Carlos Chan, Bosco Wong and Louis Cheung courtesy of on.cc
The Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Louis
Cheung Kai Chung starred Emperor Motion Picture THE BROTHERHOOD OF
REBEL (JAT JIK 2) would open on October 5th. The film's subject
would be the brotherhood of Wise Guys. Ka Lok was the only one out of
the three actors who took part in the first time. He admitted that he
was worried. "TRIAD was the first time I played a Wise Guy role. At
the time the role didn't have a lot of screen time. This time
Director Ng Ka Wai has helped me change the existing sunny and mild
mannered image, to bring a flat top new look that is full of
freshness." He pointed out that on the first time he already shared
"for the worst" with Bosco and Ah Chung, as they rapidly built their
relationships. "Our brotherhood came very fast. On the first day
we had to climb the hills and go into the seas. At the time the
weather was very cold but we still had to get into the water.
Originally we were planning on fighting in the water, but the
director kept telling us to go further and further out. Finally all
the actors were fighting in the water. After experiencing 'life and
death', naturally they got familiar very quickly!"
Director Nate Ki is pleased with Anson Kong's performance in BACK HOME, but AK still thinks he has room for improvement courtesy of mingpao.com
MIRROR member Anson Kong Yip Sang's first lead film
role BACK HOME (CHUT YUET WUI GWAI) would open soon. Earlier he
spoke about the production experience and joked that he did not have
the time to be scared. "The set had many people and was very hot, I
would only focus on the performance; I never had the time to be
scared. However actually something strange did happen there, but they
never told me as they were afraid that I would be scared. I only
found out after the shoot was over." He admitted that he believed the
talk of ghosts and spirits, each time before work he would present
incense sticks so he would not be too worried. In order to get into
his character, he overcame his fear. Whenever he shot a frightening
scenes he would go into a dark room alone to cultivate his emotions.
"Sometimes in order to sense the fear, I would lock myself in a dark
elevator and imagine what scared me when I was little. I knew outside
were plenty of people, so I was OK!" As for his first lead, he
admitted that although everyone has said that it was acceptable, he
still felt that he had a lot of shortcomings and would keep working
hard to play every role well.
"When I went to to the U.S. for the New
York Asian Film Festival and watched BACK HOME, I thought my
performance was iffy and had a lot of flaws. Some conditions in some
spots lost continuity. Ultimately since I had less experience, I
don't have enough to have a good grasp. I have talked about that with
Lokman (Yeung)." The director felt that AK's performance was worth
90 points, admitting that he still had some lacking spots. They also
have had discussions, like some lines could be done better. He felt
that AK overall had a decent grasp on horror film's horror and
atmosphere. "His character is under a lot of pressure, very intense
and rough on the set."
Director Nate Ki (Tse Ka Kei) revealed that from over 20
performers and amateurs around the same age, he chose MIRROR member
Anson Kong for the role. He said that before hand he sent parts of
the script to the participants for homework and preparation. On the
day of the audition he picked a few scenes for AK to perform. They
included dramatic and horror scenes. AK did all of his homework and
injected a lot of things. He had quite the shade of the protagonist
and met what the director had in mind. In conversations the director
also felt that he was very happy and interesting, with many aspects
that have yet to be chiseled out. Tse Ka Kei remembered that on the
day of the audition AK appeared without make up and with acne, which
surprised him. AK said, "The company told me, the film company wants
me without heavy make up. If that's the case, then I might as well go
without any. Before the audition two pimples popped up, which I
thought were no problem."
AK felt that the most difficult was the lack of air
conditioning on the set, which was both hot and stuffy like a sauna.
"The more I worked the thinner I got, which was very suitable for the
role. I would find joy for myself from within, give myself a little
treat and recharge. I couldn't be in an unhappy and suppressed
state for a long time." He said that while training in Korea, after
finishing his training and as he prepared to return to Hong Kong, one
night something happened. "I shared a room with a trainee from China
and one from Taiwan. One night as I slept, I felt someone sitting at
the foot of my bed. I saw the Chinese roommate, who had a tattoo on
his neck. However when I asked him, he denied it." Tse Ka Kei said
that once while watching the playback someone tapped him on the
shoulder. When he turned around, everyone were sitting faraway. He
joked, "Maybe someone just passed by and watched the film production."
Jeannie Chan watches as her mother is being tortured courtesy of on.cc
Chrissie Chau Sau Na in the film PRISON FLOWERS (NUI JI
GAM YUK) played a woman who has been sentenced to prison for business
fraud. Chrissie admitted that the role had certain difficulties, the
challenge of which was turning from the businesswoman to a prisoner.
"Prison is a drastically different environment and needs to use
different ways to adjust. One of my character's goal is to survive,
to reach a place in prison, which is the interesting part about this
character."
Chrissie Chau in order to play the role well dropped her
pretty girl baggage, constantly having to show vicious looks and
mean expressions. She also said that the character was very arrogant,
so she constantly got beaten up. "This movie really has many fight
scenes, but mainly I get beaten up." However, Chrissie also had her
moment to strike back. In one scene she fought with prison big
sister Rain Li Choi Wa. Chrissie turned into an action actress as she
strongly choked Li Choi Wa in a rather ferocious manner!
Another lead in the film Jeannie Chan Ying played a rebellious
daughter with a variety of misunderstanding with mother Carrie Ng Ka
Lai. The mother and daughter ran into each other in prison but might
as well be strangers. In one scene Chan Ying crossed the wrong
people in prison, Ng Ka Lai was dragged in and tortured, as a bound and
gagged Chan Ying madly cried. Chan Ying had nothing
but praise for Ng Ka Lai, calling her nice and professional. "Sister
Ka Lai completely understands how to perform, very able to bring the
drama out . In addition this time is an all women team, the group of
girls made the movie more fun."

The 28th Busan International Film Festival would take
place between October 4th and 13th in Busan. Best Actor Chow Yun Fat
has been selected to be the recipient of the Asian Filmmaker of the
Year. The film festival held an online press conference yesterday.
"Last year (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai came to participate in the
film festival, this year it's the 'Big Brother' Chow Yun Fat's turn to
represent Hong Kong film. His new film ONE MORE CHANCE (BIT GIU NGOR
DOH SUN) as well as his classic films A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON
SIK) and CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON (NGOR FU CHONG LUNG) would also
be screened at the film festival."
In addition, the Ann Hui On Wa directed documentary ELEGIES
(SZE) has been selected for the Icons segment. Reportedly the film
would be released at the end of the year.
Although director Hui On Wa due to work would be unable to
visit Hong Kong, she also shot a video in English to thank everyone for
their support. "We shot the movie in 2021, at the peak of the
pandemic. For me it was a very difficult period. Because all of the
staff needed to shoot on both sides of the strait and Hong Kong,
everyone experienced numerous quarantines. I hope this movie would
be able to properly introduce 'poetry' to the audience. Perhaps it
would be a little hard to comprehend for foreign viewers because they
would need to continuously read the subtitles. For viewers who don't
know Chinese it would certainly be difficult. Even so, I still hope
to be able to make the audience fall in love with poetry while enjoying
the film."
