The anti extradition legislation storm has endured for
over half a year, and every business has been drastically affected. The
Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd. yesterday announced the past 3 days
Christmas (December 24th to 26th) film box office. Hong Kong film
consumer market dropped by double digit from last year. This Christmas
the total Hong Kong box office was HK$ 29,425,931, a decline of 28.13%
from HK$ 40,945,494 last year.
The 2019 Christmas box office champion was STAR WARS THE RISE OF
SKYWALKER with over HK$ 6.72 million, as of the 26th its cumulative box
office was over HK$22.58 million. In second was IP MAN 4 THE FINALE
with over HK$ 6.62 million and was only around 100,000 behind. As of
the 26th its cumulative box office was HK$ 15.65 million. In third place
was JUMANJI THE NEXT LEVEL with over HK$ 5.24 million.
In comparison to the 2018 Christmas box office, the first place
AQUAMAN made over HK$ 17.88 million, HK$ 11 million more than this year's
Christmas champion STAR WARS THE RISE OF SKYWALKER -- a reflection of how
poor this year's Hong Kong film market has been.
Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, new actor Zeno
Koo Ting Hin and director Wong Hing Fan yesterday attended their film I'M
LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN)'s after screening forum and shared their production
and film subject experience. Director Wong Hing Fan hoped that with
enough advanced screenings the film would qualify for the Hong Kong Film
Awards next year.
The film has already been screened in Macau earlier. Sing Sing
was happy to see that Hong Kong also had advanced screenings and hoped
that the film company would soon arrange for its official release. When
asked if he was confident about winning an award, Sing Sing said that
actors were very passive. He could only do his part as an actor, the
film company would decide on award applications. He also rather enjoyed
working with new directors because almost the entire team were Hong
Kong people. He completely supported Hong Kong new directors and films.
Whether he would receive extra commendation in the future, he would not
consider it.
As for taking his daughters to the movie, Sing Sing admitted that
they were still too little. He said, "This film definitely can stay
because this subject is closely related to the people. It is not
something that can be resolved in a moment. I deeply believe that after
they grow up they would still watch this film. The film also hopes that
no one would give up on themselves, (instead) change themselves, live in
the present and cherish those around them."
Speaking of spending Christmas on the beach with his family,
Sing Sing admitted that it was the first trip to the beach for his two
girls. He also let go of his star status and became a father. He did
not mind that the beach was full of people. They went to two beaches.
He said that the older one was very afraid of water, while the younger
one was asleep. At night after going out for a Christmas feast, Sing
Sing went home and played Santa Claus with his wife. It was also the
first time he played Santa Claus. Although his daughters were very
happy, the older one did not recognize that Santa Claus was Papa. Chin
Wa said that her husband Real Ting Chi Ko would only dress up to scare
their son to tears on Halloween. She hoped that her husband would make
the sacrifice and play Santa Claus.
Yeung Chin Wa appreciated the film's choice of fast food
restaurant refugees as its topic and shared that life would also have
good and bad parts. With the bad parts people would need to spend time
to change, change their personal thinking to achieve big things. She
participated in the film in hopes of spreading even more positive
energy, so viewers' mental quality would be even healthier. Chin Wa
believed that her son would understand the message that the film talked
about, but she would explain it to him as well. "I have always taught
him to care about everyone and everything around him. Sometimes when I
take him to McDonDon, he would be curious about why some people would
stay for so long. He too wanted to stay a little longer." As for
whether her son had a concept of rich and poor, Chin Wa said that the
school had morality education that focused on children to learn to share.
Thus her son understood what poverty was and knew he was living with
people in different situations.
Returning from Yunnan two days ago, Chin Wa promised to take her
son to his kindergarten classmate's party as she hoped that he would
build more interpersonal relationship and keep more classmates and
friends. Speaking of her handshake with President Xi Jinping at the
Macau Handover 20th Anniversary event, Chin Wa said that as a performer
she of course was happy. She would respect the performance, for her she
was happy as long as she had a job.
Director Wong Hin Fan said that although the film has already
applied for Hong Kong Film Award nominations, he was not too confident
yet. He only hoped that even more viewers would support it. New actor
Zeno Koo Ting Hin said that I'M LIVIN' IT was a movie that was full of
warmth and love. Earlier when he saw the movie in Macau, he watched it
with co-star Nina Paw Hee Ching. He saw Sister Bau crying on and off
screen. He too planned to watch it a few more times and try to enjoy
the film away from the character in the film.
Gin Lee Hung Ngai earlier was preparing for an event
backstage when Metro Radio program host Barry and Metro chief business
director Fung Ching Ting suddenly appeared and gave her a surprise
Christmas gift.
After Gin Lee wrapped the present, it was the "Hit Mandarin
Power Album" Award. Then ASANA 360 Global Limited business development
director Chan Pok Fung presented the second award "Hit Mandarin Power
Singer". Gin Lee was even happier than getting actual Christmas
presents and thanked workers and fans who have always silently supported
her.
8 years ago, Gin Lee came from Malaysia to become a singer in
Hong Kong. At the time she did not speak Cantonese and did not have
recognition yet. Then step by step she finally received the fans'
recognition with her hard work. In July Gin Lee release her Mandarin
album for her 10th anniversary in the business.
Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and BabyJohn Choi Hon Yik after
playing an on screen couple became very close friends. Earlier while
Yun Yi was preparing for a location shoot, Hon Yik prepared a surprise
for her. Hon Yik turned into a "delivery boy" and delivered take out
breakfast order to Yun Yi, with a side of "Hit New Media Song Award" and
announced that the winning song was LIFE SAVING SONG. Yun Yi was
overjoyed.
BabyJohn received the radio station's invitation to be a guest
presenter for Hit New Media Song award to give Joyce a double surprise.
BabyJohn said that six years ago he already presented an award to Joyce,
but at the time they did not know each other. Thus this time when he
learned that he would present the award on behalf of the radio station
to Joyce, both were very excited.
Yun Yi's new song LIFE SAVING SONG reminded everyone to love and
save themselves. If they ran into pressure or felt unhappy, they had to
learn to relax and let go. Then they would naturally be able to get
past any difficulty.
Philip Chan Yan Kin yesterday attended a Danny Chan Pak
Keung fan club exhibit. Chan Pak Keung's brother Chan Pak Ling and
sister Chan Siu Yi also attended.
Chan Yan Kin said that he met Chan Pak Keung through a
electronic keyboard contest. Later a producer introduced him to be a
guest on his program. He said, "We both liked to dance an drink, so we
became good friends. I remember back then we went dancing together all
the time. When we danced we danced for more than half a hour, we
wouldn't be satisfied until we were sweating all over."
Chan Yan Kin later tailored the film ENCORE (HOK CHOI) for Danny
and asked Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing to perform. Thus it became one of the
classic films. The ENCORE poster in the exhibit was even more valuable.
He said, "The fan club has always wanted to find ENCORE to play for the
fans but it has never been able to. They asked me to help but even the
Hong Kong Film Archive didn't have it. Finally I found out that (Albert)
Yeung Sau Sing had a copy. He has been very supportive on the event as
he transferred the copy into a version that can be played at the
movies."

The Raymond Wong Pak Ming produced, Wilson Yip Wai Shun
directed, Donnie Yen Chi Tan starred kung fu film IP MAN 4: THE FINALE
(IP MAN 4: YUEN GIT PIN) opened on December 20th. In Hong Kong after
three days it accumulated HK$ 7.5 million. It also set new box office
records in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia.
Since its opening, IP MAN 4 performed better than STAR WARS:
THE RISE OF SKYWALKER in Malaysia, Taiwan, the Mainland and other places.
At the same time in Singapore it became the highest opening for an Asian
film in 2019 with S$ 1,755,560; in Malaysia IP MAN 4 also broke the
Malaysia Chinese film advanced screening box office record with
10,417,429 RM after three days. In Taiwan, it not only opened on top
last week but also defeated STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER in three
days straight with NT$ 50 million. In the Mainland it reached 300
million RMB in three days.
Yen Chi Tan said, "IP MAN series films have been able to
attract people not only with fighting but also a different focus in
each film, as they share lives and love with the audience. Lives refer
to existence, living, life and death, love refers to love for country,
for friends, for wife and for son. Each theme can move the audience
and they can relate to them. The director naturally deserves the
credit. I also thank the audience for this character IP MAN and the IP
MAN series films for their love and support."
