In the film AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG), Simon Yam Tat Wa and William Chan Wai Ting worked together for the first time and were already full of chemistry. They treated each other like teachers. Brother Wa thanked William for teaching him to dance on the set, William learned from Brother Wa acting and the actor ethics. "At first when I first made movies I was conflicted, because the roles were less than pleasant like gigolos and Oedipus complex. Later I thought that since elders were able to let go, why couldn't I?"
The most memorable for William was when Brother Wa kept hitting the chimney with an axe for five minutes. "The director entered Brother Wa's world and did not yell cut. Finally Brother Wa was out of strength but he still kept hitting. The entire set was quiet. After the shoot everyone applauded, he really never stopped until the director yelled cut!" Brother Wa praised William for his potential to be the first leading man in the disjointed film industry. "New generation actors are few, I hope everyone after watching this film will have their eyes open."
With his memorable "cop" image Brother Wa this time played a firefighter and finally had a new attempt. Although it was still a disciplinary force, he said that it was much tougher than playing a cop. "It's physically exhausting. The oxygen tank is already over 20 pounds, everyone I had to work in a 50 something or 60 degrees (Celsius) barbecue oven." Everyone had to keep drinking water. Although they had no fat, they became water logged. Even "Iron Man" Brother Wa got sick from the shoot. "Earlier I couldn't take the chill and got pneumonia, luckily in the end I was fine." He even took out his phone to show his x-ray films to explain to everyone in detail. "The doctor said that my life force was strong, I recovered in a week. However I was in quarantine from my daughter and wife for a week. As soon as my daughter saw me she immediately wanted to hug me."
William felt that this film was very difficult. "Since we all put on masks actually we could have used doubles, but since all the elders personally performed I wasn't qualified to say anything." Brother Wa explained, "The body language would have been different. When the double does something it is different from doing it yourself!" William admired Brother Wa very much, from him he learned how to be a "responsible man", a "property king". "I always hear where the elders bought homes, as a man I have to learn that." He just bought a home himself, but he denied that it was a love nest with his girlfriend Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin.
