The film I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG) would open on
January 1st in Hong Kong. Three leads Andy Lau Tak Wa, Gordon Lam Ka
Tung, and Cya Liu spoke with Carol Cheng Yui Ling on her radio
program. Wa Jai and Ka Tung even revealed the first time they worked
together.
I DID IT MY WAY would open in Hong Kong and the mainland. Its
mainland box office in 5 days has already exceeded 235 million RMB
and received good word of mouth. Viewers praised the story's
examination of human nature's complexity and conflicts. Sister Do in
the interview also expressed that the story was very interesting. Wa
Jai said that the film was not the usual action crime film. "Actually
at the center of the story is the relationship and love between
people, as well as friendship and very heavy romance." Sister Do was
interested in Wa Jai and Ka Tung teaming up for 17 times. Did they
know each other from television? Ka Tung said that while in the
training class, he played an extra in the 1992 film CASINO TYCOON
(DOH SING DAI HUNG JI SUN GOR JUEN KEI). It was the firs time he
worked with Wa Jai. He still remembered what happened 30 years ago
like it was yesterday. Ka Tung said, "On the set I saw Lau Tak Wa
from afar, the whole training class including (Kenny) Wong Tak Bun
was there. Lau Tak Wa was running. Actually it was the first time I
saw Wa Jai with my own eyes."
Sister Do has always directly asked guests daring questions.
"It's written here so I have to ask, in recent years have you held
back and fought less?" Ka Tung pointed out that Wa Jai this time very
rarely used a stunt double. As the producer as well he performed his
own stunts, whether in gun fights or fight scenes with Ka Tung. Sister
Do also asked Wa Jai whether he would consider directing. Wa Jai said,
"I have always want to have the opportunity to direct, but as I kept
working I would think why would the director shoot it so well. Yikes,
I have to learn more and more and then absorb again. Actually every
year I would have the impulse to direct, but in the end I would change
my mind." Sister Do asked whether directing would be one of his
resolutions in 2024. Wa Jai gave a surprise answer to everyone.
"2025, because 2024 I would have concerts so 2025, hahaha!" Sister Do
instantly praised Wa Jai for indeed being the hardest working person.
For days, Wa Jai continuously promoted I DID IT MY WAY nonstop.
Earlier he with Cya Lu and Kevin Chu Kam Yin went to the final stop of
the national tour in Shenzhen and removed the black framed glasses
that have by his side at the premiere and on the tour. "Today I am
not wearing glasses. Now I am Lau Tak Wa, not the villain in the film
Lam Chun On. I am relaxed, I am finally done with the bad guy."
Wa Jai at the invitation of the audience performed PRACTICE, TODAY,
GUNG HEI FAT CHOY and LOVE YOU TEN THOUSAND YEARS. Amidst the cheer
the tour became a concert.

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Gordon
Lam Ka Tung, Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan, Lam Suet and others yesterday
attended their Lunar New Year film ROB N ROLL (LUM SI GIP ONG)'s press
conference. The trio filled this movie with dark humor and shared the
"pain of men". Playing a bucktooth robber, Sing Sing was said to
resemble an "alien" according to Ka Tung.
Sing Sing, Siu Chai, Ka Tung, Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan and others
yesterday attended an event at a Tseung Kwan O school. Playing a taxi
driver in the film, Ka Tung even personally drove a taxi and picked up
the robber Sing Sing, the nursing home director Siu Chai and with a
golden gun and golden wrench protected Fu Ka Chun who was dressed as
the Fortune God. Director Mak Kai Kwong, Sun Kai Kwan, Lam Suet, Mike
Tsang Pei Tat, Deon Cheung Chung Chi, ANSONBEAN and Wong Chung Yan
joined them later as they played games and gave away New Year
presents to the elderly from the senior center and secondary school
students.
Playing a bucktooth armed robber with cauliflower ears, Sing
Sing admitted that actors needed to give and try completely without any
idol baggage. "Acting with false teeth would have pronunciation
problems, for longer shoots it would also be very tiring." Ka Tung
joked, "You have played the handsome guy for too long!"
However Ka Tung and Siu Chai revealed that Sing Sing while delivering
his lines often spat on them. Ka Tung even joked, "Have you seen the
movie ALIEN? The alien's dripping drool, Sing Sing during the shoot
would be like this." Siu Chai said, "Ka Tung and I had it the worst,
because when we act opposite Sing Sing, he would spray all over our
faces."
The trio talked about the "pain of men" scene. Ka Tung said
that the three character talked about how men faced the prostate
issue, accepted mother and wife disputes, parents' argument. Was he
able to relate in real life? He said, "My prostate is fine, but
I had a girlfriend who asked for a world of two and might not be
willing to live with her future mother in law. (So you dumped her?)
Don't say that, maybe because of this I got dumped." He immediately
"passed the ball" to his two co-stars and jokingly said about the life
of their lives. "Sing Sing is like the character, a lot of what he
does is for a better future for his family."
Sing Sing said, "In reality we have different stages. Since
becoming Papa I have to accommodate my daughters, sometimes children
throw tantrum and don't listen. Coaxing them doesn't work either,
which is maddeningly frustrating but I still have to accept it. It is
a type of training." When asked whether being handsome could be
considered a "pain of men" too, Sing Sing said, "I am happy about being
complimented, but I have to give to keep that condition. I have to
make a lot of preparation."
Siu Chai revealed that his character was like his song
"Heart Too Soft", taking responsibility for anything and everything.
Would the real him be the same way? He joked, "I am not too soft. I am
very hard in places where men should be hard, just not the liver."
He mentioned that the production was a lot of fun. His two co-stars
would call early in the morning and the middle of the night to discuss
the script. Everyone was very passionate about their performance.
Siu Chi last year performed a 43 show concert tour. Recently
he distributed 1 million between the staff as encouragement. Ka Tung
pretended to be jealous and said, "What use is that, we don't get
any." Dubbed "the last good boss" Siu Chai said, "I normally am very
stingy with them, so this time is a comparison. In addition we had a
very rough time, let them have a proper meal." Also on tour recently
Sing Sing was interested in following Siu Chai's footstep. He
revealed, "In the past we had lucky cash drawings, phones, wine, we
haven't drawn for cars yet." Playing the female taxi driver, Paulyn
Sun Kai Kwan was robbed by Sing Sing in the film. However she joked
that she wanted for him to tie her up and take her home. She also
revealed that in order to play the role well, she went to ask friends
who drove taxi for advice. Actually female taxi drivers would have a
fanny pack, tied up their hair and wear a windbreaker. She also
revealed that because her character was rich and had several vehicles.
She also praised the script went from robbery to human nature
with some satire and dark humor. In addition she has not participated
in a Lunar New Year films in a very long time, the feeling was like
childhood memory. "I used to watch Sing Yeh (Stephen Chow Sing Chi)'s
Lunar New Year films, in recent years I watched (Dayo Wong) Tze Wa
more. However this year I would watch all the Lunar New Year films
and support everyone."

Edward Chen earlier came to Hong Kong to promote the
romance LOVE AT FIRST LIE (BUT SI NEI BUT OI NEI). In his first Hong
Kong film, he and female lead "Ah Bo" Mandy Tam Man Huen had a romance
that tugs at the heart strings and he even took her first on screen
kiss. However when speaking of the 6 minute long kiss scene, Edward
declared that he wanted to grab the director to "eliminate the
witness". He said, "We kept kissing, but the director never yelled
cut. We then kept changing the kissing angles. Because both of our
noses are very big, our noses kept running into each other." However
the most upsetting for him was that the scene in the end was cut down
to one second. Edward joked, "I really want to grab a knife and stab
the director to death!" Edward Chen said that recently he learned
about Mandy's new romance and could only say sorry to Mandy's
boyfriend. In the past he kissed guys in movies. What was the
difference? He said that the feeling was the same, both were
warm and he would still get shy. After the kiss scene with Mandy
though, he did not feel awkward when they saw each other again
because they were s close as siblings.
Coming to work on a movie in Hong Kong for the first time,
Edward said that it felt like a dream. He felt that the film rhythm
was very different from Taiwan films. Hong Kong film's pace was
fast. When he watched the movie again he could not follow all of it.
Edward Chen revealed that the production process only took half
a month. Because in the film he only had a few lines of Putonghua
and almost all of them were in Cantonese, everyday he practiced with
his driver in very rotten Cantonese. "However some pronunciations are very hard to read, like Leung Chung Hang's name in the film 'Keung
Gor'. Every time when I had to call him it was very difficult, but
actually using foul language was easy. The staff taught some very long
dirty terms!"
In the future Edward Chen would like to come to Hong Kong to
make movies again, especially crime films. He even hoped to have the
opportunity to work with his idol Tony Leung Chiu Wai in the future.
He said, "I can work on any movie with him. (If you have to take off
your clothes?) That's not good, I am better off doing the acting part
well."
Edward Chen in the film had to play a patient in a part of
the film. Thus before his performance he asked the director for time
for him to lose weight. He chose to fast for ten days and lose around
10 pounds before performing.

The Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd. summed up the 2023
Hong Kong film market overall situation. According to film box office
total revenue, the 2023 total box office was HK$ 1,433,169,125 and
returning to the 2011 level of HK$ 1,392,170,518.
Due to the pandemic in 2022, the 104 day cinema closing and
different level of admission restrictions made the situation different
from 2023 and could not be compared. Yet in comparison to before the
pandemic, the 2019 total box office was HK$ 1,923,194,409, the decline
was 25.48%. Obviously last year the film industry box office revenue
indeed was not very ideal, conceivably many factors like the increase
of overseas vacation after the pandemic, the pandemic production halt
that left few film choices, or consumer spending format changes, made
the overall film and cinema market poor and unable to return to the
before pandemic level. The Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd hoped that
the audience in the new year would be able to go to the movies more
to support the film industry.
Veteran filmmaker Tin Kai Man was not surprised to hear about
the brutal 2023 total film box office, feeling that the less than ideal
box office could be traced. He said, "Foreign films in recent years
have been using hero special effects as their selling points. The
audience already felt tired, watching one less wouldn't be a loss.
Hong Kong films faced restrictions from minority subjects and
co-production formulas and kept the audience away; the poor economy,
overseas vacations, the attractive level of the films, they were all
reasons that impacted the box office revenue." Some felt that the
film releases were lacking. In 2023 267 films were released, 62 less
than before the pandemic in 2019. The decrease was also one of the
reasons. Tin Kai Man said, "The amount of release isn't short, only
the audience has more choices like online streaming platform and
their movie viewing habits changed. It is an extremely large alarm
for the Hong Kong film market future. I of course don't hope to see
Hong Kong's future dim, but at the current level I don't see any
breakthrough. I hope the industry and all the stakeholders would
focus on this problem."
Although the market forecast remained unclear, the Andy Lau
Tak Wa and Tony Leung Chiu Wai starred blockbuster THE GOLDFINGER (GUM
SAU JI) performed well. Opening on December 30th, as of January 1st
its box office already exceeded HK$ 13.6 million and its mainland box
office also passed 220 million RMB. The Lau Tak Wa, Gordon Lam Ka
Tung and Eddie Peng Yu-Yan starred I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG) already
opened in the mainland and also made over 220 million RMB. The film
would open on January 11th in Hong Kong.

awards. Keung To with WAVE won "My Favorite Song" for the 4th straight
years, as well as the 6th place on the Ultimate Top Ten; Ian Chan
Cheuk Yin won his first "Male Singe Bronze Prize" and repeated the
"Creative Singer Bronze Prize" victory. "My Favorite Male Singer"
was Hins Cheung King Hin, beating out Wan Kwong and the 3 MIRROR
members. Also with IMAGINARY FAIRGROUND he received the "Ultimate
Song" Award. Panther Chan Lui won the most individual awards with 4
to become the big winner and the double award female singer.
Chan Lui became the biggest winner of individual awards,
winning "My Favorite Female Singer", "Female Singer Gold Prize",
"Creative Singer Silver Prize" and "Ultimate Top Ten" 3th place. She
said, "This year is the year I have been on the stage the most, which
I would consider as the proper answer. Actually I am transforming.
When I am writing songs I never thought about war. In 2024, I wish
everyone would cherish what they have." Gin Lee Ngai Hung won the
"Female Singer Silver Prize" and was moved to tears. "For awhile I
wanted to put the period to my singing career. Thank you fans and
Emperor Records' support, for me to bravely chasing dreams once again."
Female Singer Bronze prize winner Serrini asked if she would be
considered the first person to win this award without the record
company's support. After winning the award she paused for two seconds
before saying, "I really won this award."
This year's "My Favorite Male Singer" competition has been
fierce. The internet pushed the 79 year old Wan Kwong into the top 5
opposite Cheung King Hin and MIRROR members Keung To, Anson Lo Hon
Ting and Ian. Cheung King Hin after an active campaign finally won
the award again after 10 years, and with IMAGINARY FAIRGROUND he won
the Ultimate Song Award. When he received the award from Jan Lamb Hoi
Fung he said, "I want to sincerely thank every person who voted for
me; like Lam Hoi Fung says music continues to change, but I would
remain humble. I hope to be able to improve Hong Kong music with
everyone. Since 2014, I have received everyone's recognition over
these 10 years. Now participating award shows are the new generation,
no one in my generation. I can only continue to remain strong curiosity
to do better. I came from Guangzhou to Hong Kong and toiled for 23
years. Everyone went from accepting into believing. I want to thank
this city for the blessing it has given me. In 2024 I would make good
songs and new developments, like being a rookie I would do my part
to thank everyone for their support."
Anson Lo was neither able to repeat as "My Favorite Male
Singer" nor win an individual award. MIRROR only won "My Favorite
Group and not in the top three of the "Ultimate Music Group". The
Gold Prize of that award went to Dear Jane, and silver and bronze
respectively went to Lolly Talk and COLLAR. Captain Lokman Yeung
pointed out that last years members had many different work, but as
a music group they came up a little short. They would perform the
concerts together and hoped to be able to work more. Member Keung To
with the song WAVE won "My Favorite Song" and Ultimate Top Ten 6th
place. He said, "I would do better." Sammy said, "That's right, say
less and do more." He also said, "Thank you for all the waves that
happened this year." Ian won "Male Singer Bronze Prize" and "Creative
Singer Bronze Prize". He was surprised to learn that he won the Male
Singer Bronze prize. "I feel I was more casual with singing before,
after getting into the business on countless nights I thought about
giving up. However this award reminds me how I got on this journey,
thank you everyone."
Lolly Talk aside from breaking into the "Ultimate Top Ten"
with ON FIRE also won "Ultimate Music Group silver prize". They were
rather emotional on the stage, stating that last year they have been
very lucky. "We had different opportunities to fulfill our dreams. We
would keep working hard. I hope we would be together, laughing and
crying, to be see by everyone, to continue fulfilling our dreams.
Thank you very much to our team. We sometimes would do some very dumb
things. We promise that from now on we would keep charging ahead!"
Terence Lam Ka him won 3 awards, repeating "Male Singer Gold
Prize" and "Creative Singer Gold Prize" as well as the "Song Composer
Award". He said that each time he has won the male singer award he has
been very scared. This year he had many more opportunities to sing but
has been repeatedly denied and recognized, only this way would he have
the balance to improve and remain humble. MC Cheung Tin Fu went from
last year's Male Singer Bronze Prize to Silver Prize, and with THE ONE
FOR U he won the Ultimate Top Ten 8th place. When he accepted the
Ultimate Top Ten award earlier he seemed to be a little down and lacked
a smile. When he accepted the Male Singer award he explained that at
the time he did not expect to win the award. He was having a throat
drop.
Gigi Yim Ming Hay with LITTLE MAGIC won the Ultimate Top Ten
10th place. Instead of being sexy, she was covered from head to toe
with a bottleneck dress and an alternative style. She said that when
she heard that she would win one of the Ultimate awards, she felt it
was like a fantasy. She never thought about winning before and it was
very rare. "Thank you to all the DJ friends who have played my
songs, all the friends who love me. I hope everyone would give more
time, more opportunity for me to do more different songs for
everyone."
Lam Chi Lok won the Rookie Male Singer silver prize. He said
that from the beginning he has never thought about winning an award.
"Several days ago I drew a bad luck straw and I was upset for days.
Being on this stage is one of my wish list items. I haven't thought
bout getting in on the first year, not to mention winning the silver
prize."
Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun won the Rookie Male Singer Gold Prize.
He got a little emotional before getting on the stage. Host Sammy
joked that he was "a singer who was almost hindered by his looks".
Jeffrey on the stage continued his bumbling nature, only worrying
about digging for his cheat sheet in his pocket and forgetting to
accept the award from Sammy. Finally he needed Sammy's help to hold
his cheat sheet for him to read. He took out the "cheat sheet" to
thank his girlfriend and manager Evelyn and say "I Love You".
Silver prize winner was the STARS Academy singer Felix Lam Chi Lok;
P1X3L member Marco Ip Chun Won won the bronze prize. He was still
ailing and unable to accept the award in person. His group mates
Phoebus Ng Kai Yeung and George Au Chun King accepted it on his
behalf. Rookie Female Singer Gold Prize went to COLLAR's Marf Yau Yin
Tung, silver and bronze prizes went to Nancy Kwai Cheuk Hiu and Sica
Ho Lok Yiu. Marf said while looking at her "cheat sheet", "Thank you
to the company for tolerating my rebelliousness, COLLAR's 6 members
for giving me the peace of mind for me to step on the solo journey."
For the second music report card, almost 100 singers attended
the event last night. Many fans have arrived before the show began
with banners to support their idols. Cheung King Hin, Yim Ming Hay
and MIRROR members Chan Cheuk Yin and Jeremy's support team kept
chanting slogans in deafening noise levels.
As for "Cult Leader" Lo Hon Ting's support, they were situated
at the outdoor space outside the venue -- the largest fan group at the
event. Keung To's support are only had a big group of "Keung candies"
taking selfies but no slogan chant. However the venue had a super
gigantic billboard of Keung To.
