[2009.06.04] DETECTIVE DEE CAST HAS TO TAKE A BEATING BEFORE GIVING A BEATING

The Tsui Hark directed DETECTIVE DEE (YI YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK) reportedly has French financing, but both Tsui Hark and Huayi Brothers executives have not directly responded. Tsui Hark however claimed that Detective Dee like Bruce Lee is internationally renowned.

Tsui Hark frankly stated that he has always been very interested in both Detective Dee and Bruce Lee. Originally he wanted to make a BruceLee biography but finally he dropped the plan when he could not find any suitable choice. His interest in Detective Dee grew stronger and stronger. In this film, he would not abandon his wuxia expertise. When asked if he asked Sammo Hung Kam Bo to be the action director because his action design had shades of Bruce Lee, Tsui Hark did not deny and even said that this film's visuals would be comfortable and focus on visual fantasy effects. Yet its fights may be like "Ip Man and Bruce Lee" and duel in real punches and kicks, so they would be difficult for non gong fu experts Andy Lau Tak Wa and Li Bingbing. However Tsui Hark hoped that they could stand the pressure. After being injured they would become "able to fight", thus they first had to "take a beating". The film will hold a press conference on the 11th in Hengdian. Lau Tak Wa, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Li Bingbing, Tsui Hark and Hung Kam Bo will attend. The film is slated for a National Day release next year.
