The Radio Television Hong Kong "Broadcasting 95th Anniversary Top Ten Chinese Gold Song" award concert took place last night at the Hong Kong Coliseum. This year the event with the slogan "Brilliant Broadcasting 95th anniversary, opening new gold song era" gave out the year's music report cards, commended music makers on and off screen for their excellent performance, and invited a group of singers to cook up a series of surprise tributes to music giants and to pass on the music forefather's spirit of continuous innovation and pursuit for improvement. Last year the singer with the most awards was MC Cheung Tin Fu, who won four awards including "Excellent Singer", "Gold Song Award", "Global Chinese Ultimate Gold Song" and "Most Excellent Popular Male Singer Award". Jay Fung Won Him, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Vincy Chan (Wing Yi) followed with three awards each, while Gigi Yim Ming Hay and Gin Lee both received two awards.

The award concert opened as the Commerce and Economic Development Secretary Algernon Yau Ying-wah led all the singers in a "opening the gold songs new era" unveiling ceremony, launching the finger print "music key" that represented uniting the music scene to create a new brilliant music age again. In coordination with the 95th anniversary of broadcasting, RTHK thoughtfully arranged for many performances with beautiful voices to accompany gold songs as tribute to music classics and displaying the continuation of music. Performance included Hi-Fi Heavenly Queen Lily Chen Jieli's performance of many gold songs from the past half century. New generation music makers JNYBeatz, Rock Hill Street arranged music superstar Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing and Anita Mui Yim Fong's classic works anew and performed them anew with new singers Aiden Hung Jor Sing, Cloud Wan Ho Ying, CY Chan Chung Chak, CY Leo Ho Chuek Yin, DEZ Yu Chung Yiu, Cecilia So Lai Shan and others. To remember the glory of "the Broadcasting 95th anniversary gold song honorary award" recipient Joseph Koo Ka Fai, Frances Yip Lai Yi performed the "20th centruy top ten Chinese gold song" THE BUND with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra's Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra performing the works of Brother Fai to bring the majestic atmosphere back to the HK Coliseum. Tsui Yat Kun accepted the award on behalf of Brother Fai's family, and said that although his mentor passed his works and melodies have been musical treasures and would always remain in everyone's hearts. In the end the entire evening ended around 20 minutes before the scheduled 11 PM time.

The "Broadcasting 95th Anniversary Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs" presented the "Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs", "Newcomer with the Most Potential", "Excellent Popular Chinese Song Award", "Excellent Popular Singer Awards", "Most Excellent Popular Singer Award", "CASH Best Creative Singer Award", "Best Chinese Album Award", "Best Improvement Award", "Best Band/Group Award", "Global Chinese Ultimate Gold Song Award", and the "Broadcasting 95th anniversary Gold Song Honorary Award".

The first awards presented were for "Excellent Popular Singer Award". The ten winners were Gigi Yim Ming Hay, Gin Lee, Jer Lau Ying Ting, JW, MC Cheung Tin Fu, Vincy Chan (Wing Yi), Keung To, Jay Fung Won Him, Janice Vidal (Wai Lan), Joyce Cheng Yun Yi. Only Gin Lee, Wing Yi, Fung Won Him and JW accepted the awards on the stage. Wing Yi and Fung Won Him received the firs top ten excellent singer award.

The first Top Ten Chinese Gold Song went to Wing Yi's GLACIER. She admitted that privately she also wanted this song to win, because the song gave her revelation on how to continue on her music journey. Fung Won Him's SWEETLY also won. He said that the song was dedicated to his fans. He said that he has always longed to win a RTHK award, because winning an award meant that he would be able to sing on the stage. The third song was Eason Chan Yik Shun's HOME SAPIENS but he did not attend. Kenneth Fok Kai Kong presented the fourth and fifth songs to Gin Lee's DUM DUM and Alan Po (Bo Chi Lun)'s BIRDMAN. Because Bo Chi Lun was not in Hong Kong, he shot a video in advance to thank the event for the award.

The "Best Band/Group Award" gold prize went to MIRROR, silver prize to Supper Moment and Bronze prize to Rock Hill Street. MIRROR member Lau Ying Ting shot a video to thank the event for presenting the top ten excellent singer award to him. Mayday's SONG FOR YOU won the "Excellent Popular Mandarin Song Award".

"The Best Improvement Award" Gold, Silver and Bronze Prizes went respectively to Kaho Hung, Rock Hill Street and Simon On Chun Ho. "CASH Best Creative Singer Award" Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes went to Jay Fung Won Him, Kaho Hung and Jocelyn Chan Ming Hin.

Best Chinese Album Award male singer was Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) for GREATEST WORKS OF ART, female singer was Vincy Chan (Wing Yi) for DARK LIGHT OF THE SOUL. Wing Yi was a little emotional when she accepted her award as she got teary eyed.

Then the Top Ten Chinese Gold Song Awards were continued to be presented. Gigi Yim Ming Hay who first participated in a charity concert before going to the Hong Kong Coliseum won with REALLY WANT TO DATE YOU. Ian Chan Cheuk Yin's BREATHING WITH YOU and Joyce Cheng Yun Yi's GLITTERFALLS also won. Gigi thanked everyone for their support, understanding and passion. Because she was a shy person, she did not have the guts to talk with everyone until they became familiar. She thanked everyone for always keeping her company. MIRROR's WE ALL ARE also won a gold song award. Keung To briefly thanked the event in a video for its support. MC Cheung Tin Fu's A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO OLD-FASHIONED DATING became the last gold song award winner.

Last night many singers were absent due to work or other reasons and the show became lackluster. One of the hosts Yuen Chung Yeung joked, "Tonight everyone is very busy." Before the show ended, 1/3 of the live audience has already left. Some online slammed the show with comments like "Don't waste the taxpayers' money", "More absence than attendance", "Don't know anyone at all". Originally scheduled guest presenters Vivian Chow Wai Man and Gordon Lam Ka Tung were absent as well. RTHK public relations said that Lam Ka Tung was ailing and Chow Wai Man could not make the show.
