Veteran actor Wong Chung (original name: Chiang Pui Kwan)
earlier passed away from intestinal cancer at age 75. Yesterday Taoist
ceremony held for his funeral at the Universal Funeral Parlor. The
casket was then transported to Cape Collinson Crematorium for cremation.
Wong Chung's younger brother "Big Mouth Ching" Wong Ching was in
Australia and unable to return to Hong Kong to attend, but sent flowers.
Cousin John Chiang Dai Wai already presented incense on the night before
the funeral. Many friends and family were overseas and unable to return
to Hong Kong to send Wong Chung on his final journey.
Wong Chung's nephew Cheung Hok Man said that his uncle liked to
stay low key and simple. He also declined to accept the media
interview. The hall was simply decorated. Insiders like Chow Yun Fat,
Jackie Chan, Chiang Dai Wai, Fong Ping, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Andrew Lau
Wai Keung, the Hong Kong Performing Artists Guild, the Hong Kong
Directors' Guild and others sent floral arrangements. Kent Cheng Juk
Si, Ti Lung and his wife Tao Man Ming, director Cheung Kwok Ming
attended to bid their late friend farewell. Cheng Juk Si entered the
hall alone without accepting any interview. Ti Lung and his wife
arrived together. He said to reporters, "This buddy of mine didn't
like to make a big deal, he liked being low key. I wish him peace and
joy, far from reversed dreams, without any fear."
