The second report card of the music industry, Commercial Radio Ultimate Music Pop Chart Award last night presented 48 awards at the Convention center. Made up like a panda, Eason Chan Yik Shun won 5 awards to be the big winner and at the same time led the Four Station Alliance Award. Even in the face of TVB JADE SOLID GOLD award's ban, Eason still has the strength to win the Media Award.
Last night did not have any considerably pleasant surprise. Eason was the favorite to win big, winning Male Singer Gold Prize and My Favorite Male Singer. Then his album H3M on the Ultimate Music Best Record Award and the Four Station Alliance Music Award - Album Award, while 700 YEARS LATER (CHUT BAK NIN HAU) was the Ultimate Music Best Song award. No wonder Eason happily expressed that he wanted to keep playing in the music scene.
As for female singers, Joey Yung Cho Yi crushed Kay Tse On Kay to win the Gold Prize Female Singer. She already has won the gold prize for the third year in a row and in the top three for a decade. My Favorite Female Singer went to Miriam Yeung Chin Wa. Because she did not expect to win, Chin Wa was very surprised and kept wowing. She even publicly thanked her husband (Gary Ting Chi Ko). Even when Hins Cheung King Hin won the Male Singer Silver Prize he publicly thanked his two rumored lovers Kenny Kwan Chi Bun and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi for constantly listening to his late night talks.
As for groups Mr. win IF I AM EASON CHAN (YU GOR NGOR SI CHAN YIK SHUN) won Ultimate My Favorite Song award. They won three awards all night and 8 so far by the Four Station Alliance Media Award count, second only to Eason.
Tse On Kay last night was described as last year's most criticized female singer. When she won the female singer silver prize, she even said that in the past year she has thought about giving up. Yet because she liked music too much she changed her mind. In the past singers could often be heard thanking Paco Wong at music award shows, but last night only Mark Lui Chung Tak dared to publicly thank Paco.
Last night Universal Records won 12 awards. Although they faced a TVB ban, Universal, Warner, Sony Music and EMI singers last night performed decently. Last night TVB broadcast of the Ultimate award show almost became an "award talk show". Many singer performance could not be aired and could only talk. Thus before the opening TVB already sent reporters for some advanced interviews.
Sammy and Kitty Yuen Siu Yi made fun of the 2046 Hong Kong music scene, the funniest part when they brought up current singers' next generation. They paired up Eason Chan Yik Shun's daughter and Kay Tse On Kay's son, joking that they would represent Chan Yik Shun and Tse On Kay in a continuation of their romance; Louis Cheung Kai Chung got rich because he was useless and good for nothing. Leo Ku Kui Ke would not marry or have children, thus at 80 something he was still "flower boy" at the senior home.
