The 2012 summer vacation film slot has already come to an end. The Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association summed up the box office of the period. 46 first run films were released, 15 more than last year. The overall total summer box office was over HK$339 million, a 5.07% drop from last year. Among the top five grossing films, the only Hong Kong film was VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). In first place was THE DARK KNIGHT RISES with 48.69 million during the summer and over 60 million in total. VULGARIA made 25.49 million during the summer vacation and accumulated almost 26.86 million. AVENGERS with an cumulative box office of 96 million had a huge chance to become the box office champion of the year.
The Grand Ocean cinema that has always mainly shown Hollywood hits broke its usual rule with VULGARIA on its fourth week. Chapman To Man Jat two nights ago accepted the "Golden Donkey Award" from the cinema. He said, "Being the Hong Kong film actor whose movie has been at the Grand Ocean cinema for 4 week truly isn't easy."
