Cherie Chung Chor Hung was the star of the Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting directed AN AUTUMN'S TALE (CHAU TIN DIK TUNG WA). Cheung Yuen Ting received appeared on a cable interview. She said that at first she wanted Maggie Cheung Man Yuk to play the female lead, but due to a scheduling conflict she suggested Hung Goo because she thought that she had quite an aura. At first she was not optimistic, but Hung Goo put a lot of effort into playing the character well as she was determined to rid herself of the "flower vase" image.
As for lead actor Chow Yun Fat, before the film began production due to A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON SIK) his popular soared. At first he did not sign a contract and she was very afraid that Fat Gor would quit at the last minute. Before the team left for New York she nervously called Fat Gor, not expecting him to directly said, "Since I promised you I definitely will be there, relax!" Fat Gor's acting was outstanding and he valued loyalty.
However, Cheung Yuen Ting almost enraged Fat Gor. "For the final scene, Fat Gor after buying a gift ran to the female lead's home, found out she left and then chased after the car. At the time I was still new as a director. I didn't really know how to communicate with actors and had to shoot many different characters. Finally Fat Gor ended up running for a dozen or so days. A well known nice guy, Fat Gor could not help but said, 'Director, since coming here everyday I have been running like this. That's not right!' I thought I probably almost got him so mad that he almost died!"
