[2013.09.24] THE GRANDMASTERS BEATS UNBEATABLE TO REPRESENT HONG KONG

Tony Leung Chiu Wai for THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) practiced Wing Chun Hard and finally defeated the muscle filled mixed martial art king Nick Cheung Ka Fai and another "Ip Man" Anthony Wong Chau Sun! The Wong Kar Wai directed THE GRANDMASTERS defeated the box office hit UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) and IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT (IP MAN JUNG GIK YUT JIN) to represent Hong Kong in competition for the 86th Oscars Best Foreign Film nomination. Due to THE GRANDMASTERS' US$ 6.3 million North American box office and selection as one of the Telegraph's 2013 Top Ten Best Films, its chances to receive the Oscars Best Foreign Film nominations are even higher.

The Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong Limited Board of Directors yesterday announced that according to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science film selection rules it decided to recommend THE GRANDMASTERS to represent Hong Kong to vie for the 86th Oscar Best Foreign Film nomination, which will be announced early next year. Many Hong Kong films applied for the honor. The Nick Cheung Ka Fai starred box office hit UNBEATABLE was once rumored to be in a fierce competition with THE GRANDMASTERS. In the end THE GRANDMASTERS came out ahead.

The Federation of Motion Pictures Producers of Hong Kong Limited chair Hung Cho Sing said that this year many Hong Kong films were outstanding. Aside from THE GRANDMASTERS, UNBEATABLE and IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT also received jury member support. THE GRANDMASTERS in the end received the most votes and was chosen to represent Hong Kong in the competition for th Oscars Best Foreign Film nomination. THE GRANDMASTERS team through Jet Tone said that it was very honored to represent Hong Kong, which was the result of the director, the cast and the crew's hard work together.

Two nights ago, Leung Chiu Wai and Zhang Ziyi were happy for Wong Kar Wai when they received the good news in Qingdao. They hope to be able to walk the Oscar red carpet again. Donnie Yen Chi Tan also had an intimate photo with Leung Chiu Wai as two Ip Mans had different styles.
