Chin Kar Lok and Chan Wai Man yesterday went to Metro Radio to accept an interview with Nancy Sit Ka Yin. Admitting that he had lung cancer in September last year, Chan Wai Man yesterday was rather spirited and full of energy. However after a photo together he rushed off to get his car as he was afraid of "getting a ticket".
As for Chan Wai Man's current condition, Sister Ka Yin said, "Brother Wai Man still needs to see doctor, but even the doctor says that he would never imagine he would be able to recover so fast." Chin Kar Lok joked, "Now he is healthier than me, just right he wanted to 'make a move' against me. He can walk and he can run; seeing him still remembering to get the car before getting a ticket, you would know that he is fortunate!"
Sister Ka Yin said that this time he invited guests who put their hearts into and contributed to action films. Back then Chan Wai Man used hardcore kung fu to make over 100 early Republic action films, once he had the reputation of "Punches has Chan Wai Man, kicks has Bruce Lee". Kar Lok said that it was very rare for Chan Wai Man to talk about the hardship of a stunt coordinator from the angle of an actor. He also remembered that whenever someone in the business lost their car, they would ask Shing Fui On and Chan Wai Man to find it. Sister Ka Yin even pointed out that she encountered the mob not paying actors the rest of their salary for a film production, Chan Wai Man would volunteer to help and collect it for them.
The "Hong Kong Stuntman Association" president Chin Kar Lok produced documentary KUNGFU STUNTMEN just opened in the Mainland and later would hold charity premiere for members in Hong Kong. Speaking of inviting Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Yuen Wah, Yuen Mo, Yuen Woo Ping, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Ching Siu Tung and others to appear and talk to salute and document action stunt actors who have made contributions in the past . Kar Lok said that during his stuntman days, he doubled for Jackie Chan, Hung Kam Bo, Yuen Biao, Joyce Godenzi (Go Lai Hung), Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) and others. However he was more fortunate as he was able to transition to become an actor. Yet many stuntmen could only remain unsung heroes. Sister Ka Yin agreed, back in the Cantonese film era, the double she worked with the most probably was Ching Siu Tung.
