Wong Jing in recent years has been remaking many classics, after THE NEW KUNG FU CULT MASTERS and SAKRA recently he would remake the John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) directed film ONCE A THIEF. The film was released in 1991, starred Chow Yun Fat, Cherie Chung Chor Hung and the late Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing. The film made HK$ 34 million.
Currently ONCE still received high praises on many Mainland streaming platforms. Reportedly, in this Wong Jing remake, Chow Yun Fat and Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's roles would go to Louis Koo Tin Lok and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung. Chung Chor Hung's role would be offered to Ni Ni. When asked to confirmed, Wong Jing admitted that he has bought the rights but did not reveal any other detail. He only said, "Because it would happen next year, let's talk about it later!" As for Tse Ting Fung who just finished Emperor Motion Pictures' HOI GUAN JIN SIN (CUSTOMS FRONT LINE), his manager Mani Fok Man Hei said, "For now we haven't taken the role yet."
Although the cast has not yet been confirmed, Wong Jing would produce, and Jazz Boon (Man Wai Hung), who directed classic Hong Kong series like A TASTE OF LOVE, AT THE THRESHOLD OF AN ERA and A FIST WITHIN FOUR WALLS, would direct. In 2016 he made the LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH) film series and has ample experience.
