Albert Yeung Sau Sing yesterday personally led THE
GOLDFINGER (GUM SAU JI) film team to Beijing to attend the press
conference. Emperor Group chair Yeung Sau Sing, director and
screenwriter Felix Chong Man Keung, producer Wong Bun, leads Tony Leung
Chiu Wai, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Alex Fong Chung
Shun and Carlos Chan Ka Lok attended. Reunited after over 20 years
in another film, Wai Jai and Wa Jai said that this production was
rather pleasant. Wai Jai even pointed out that they have worked
together for almost 40 years, Wa Jai was his best partner. The two
god class Best Actors even shook each other's golden hands.
The Emperor Motion Picture THE GOLDFINGER yesterday held its
global release press conference in Beijing. The event announced that
the film would open simultaneously on December 30th in the mainland,
Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand,
England, the U.S., Canada and other locations. Yeung Sau Sing while
wishing for box office success for the team in advance said, "To be
able to land this team has been very difficult. I am very honored.
I don't know when the next one would be able to start production."
The film's latest trailer was also shown at the event. In it
Wai Jai and Wa Jai unveiled a conflict that span 15 years between
them; Wai Jai changed from his usually low key performance and fully
embraced his character's "state of arrogance". The two Best Actors
in the changing shadows and light sat opposite each other, a scene
that even displayed their mysterious relationship.
Director and producer Chong Man Keung gave a brief story
introduction. "This is a story about how someone used HK$ 100 to make
HK$ 10 billion, a story that kept exchanging dreams and nightmares.
Thus it needs two good actors to interpret it." Director Chong once
has worked with Wai Jai and Wa Jai on the Hong Kong film classic
INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH). To be able to motivate the two best
actors to reunite, Director Chong said that he felt very honored. Wa
Jai also shared his experience when he got the script. "After reading
the script, I asked Director Chong Man Keung, 'Who is the co-star?
It wouldn't be Leung Chiu Wai?' The director nodded and this film
happened." Wai Jai also had the same idea. "Actually whatever script
I read, the first choice would be Lau Tak Wa. This is what destiny is
like. On television we are the best partners, we wouldn't be able to
work together until 20 years later. However each time has been very
pleasant and happy."
3 photos were shown on stage, documenting the two since their
starts on television in the 80s to THE GOLDFINGER, they would work
together to make a classic almost every 20 years. Wai Jai pointed out
that although they have not had too many exchanges, whenever they would
work together they would have great chemistry. "While working on DUKE
OF MOUNT DEER, we just got into the business at the time. Everyone
was very serious and worked hard, everyday the workload was a lot.
We almost never went out for fun together, but exactly because of that,
our relationship started to build at this moment. The bond between
actors is based on trust, until today we are still good friends." Wa
Jai agreed. "Looking back to THE GOLDFINGER now, after almost 40
years I feel we are still at that earliest period. We haven't changed
too much." Wai Jai even said that his relationship in the new film
with Wa Jai was similar to theirs in DUKE OF MOUNT DEER, they were
both friends and enemies.
Ah Sa in the film would be between Wai Jai and Wa Jai. She
described this production was a Heavenly King level experience.
"Whether on or off camera they are my idols. I grew up with their
work. They have had huge influence on me. Every time I have worked
with Wa Jai, as long as he is around I am at peace. He has given me a
great sense of security." Chan Ka Lok was also very excited to work
with the two Best Actor. "Everyday after work I didn't want to leave
the set, I wanted to watch even more Wai Jai and Wa Jai's performance!"
Fong Chung Shun gave a brief character introduction and production
experience, "I play Wai Jai's lawyer and would help him resolve many
problems. I have worked with the director and the producer many times.
I hope in the future they would still continue to offer me movie roles!"
The press conference had a speed question and answer segment.
When asked who was the most different on and off screen, everyone
pointed at Wai Jai. Wai Jai's lawyer in the film Fong Chung Shun
explained, "I remember in a hospital scene, after Wai Jai sees Wa Jai
his reaction completely changes." Wai Jai also agreed that this
character was quite a drastic change from previous ones. As for Wa
Jai he was said to be the person who suffered the most injuries on the
set. Wai Jai said, "Any movie with Wa Jai would put the action scenes
on him, so he is injured the most." Wa Jai added, "In this movie, I
thought many people would have fight scenes. Actually only I alone had
action scenes, constantly running back and forth."
