Rachel Leung Yung Ting in the film IN BROAD DAYLIGHT (BAK YUN JI HA) played a sexually abused intellectually challenged nursing home resident and was nominated for the Golden Horse Awards Best Supporting Actress. She appeared on a Commercial Radio interview. Speaking her late mentor Dick Liu Kai Chi inspiring her to act, the process that made her persist to become an actor made her break down in tears. Leung Yung Ting started in the business in 2013. In 2018 with the film SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE MIST (NAM TIN BAK WON) she was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Actor and in the end lost to TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY (WONG GUM FA)'s Ling Man Lung.
Leung Yung Ting said that when the Golden Horse Awards nominations were announced, because director Lawrence Kan Kwan Chun had great expectation for her she did not dare to look at the nominations. The director who was in Vancouver was the one who gave her good news. Leung Yung Ting said, "At the time I breathed a sigh of relief, fortunately my effort has not disappointed people." As early as age 16 she has already made becoming an actor her goal. After secondary school graduation she applied for the Academy of Performing Arts twice and failed both times. Then she enrolled in the Baptist University film school and ran into her acting mentor Uncle Chi.
Speaking of Uncle Chi's influence on her, Leung Yung Ting broke down and cried. She said that after making SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE MIST, the movie was not released and for awhile she did not have any work. "Uncle Chi invited me to return to school and share the production experience with the classmates. As I left he gave me a letter, encouraging me to work hard, do what I like. Inside the envelope was also a stack of cash." Uncle Chi understood the difficulty of her persistence on being an actor and gave her encouragement. Although her mentor passed, whenever she felt lost Leung Yung Ting would open that letter and remind herself that once she ran into a great teacher.
