TVB's annual event THE TVB AWARDS 2023 last night took place in Macau. The Best Actor and Best Actress were Moses Chan Ho and Charmaine Sheh Si Man. The series THE QUEEN OF NEWS (SUN MUN NUI WONG) swept up 8 awards. Ah Sheh often went to the stage to accept awards, winning "Best Actress", Greater Bay Area and Malaysia Favorite TVB Actress awards. She even became the first person to win three TVB Best Actress awards. Many artists have been toiling for years in silence. Last night several actors who have been in the business for over 15 years including Samantha Ko Hoi Ning, Jazz Lam Chi Sin, Mark Ma Kwun Tung all received awards as their hard work has been recognized.

This year's competition was fierce. Chan Ho with NARCOTICS HEROES (POR DUK KEUNG YUN)'s "drug king" Man Wa became the television Best Actor. Having been nominated 28 times in the category, Chan Ho this time won again after winning in 2007 with HEART OF GREED (TONG SUM FUNG BO). He also received the award from his wife Aimee Chan Yan Mei's hands. However Aimee was even more emotional than her husband and she broke down in tears on the stage. After Ah Mo gave his speech, they immediately went into an embrace.

Chan Ho with NARCOTICS HEROES (POR DUK KEUNG YUN) won "Best Actor". He felt that the award proved that the way he studied productions hard in the past was correct. He was the happiest about receiving the award from his wife's hands, which he described as "sweet plus a little much" and joked that not many people would have such an opportunity; he also joked that he was a "bull" and would only continue to keep working hard. He would not make a big deal of the victory and would not stop his pace. How would he celebrate? He said that he did not enjoy big celebration. He joked that his children have also complained that only their parents went to Macau. Perhaps his wife would also take the chance to arrange for time for just the two of them.

Sheh Si Man in THE QUEEN OF NEWS played "Sister Man" Man Wai Sum. The series after its release has even hot topic. Having won Best Actress twice before, Ah Sheh this time again as the favorite won the honor. Ah Sheh after accepting the award from Raymond Lam Fung and Tavia Yeung Yi said, "People always say two comes after one, and three comes after two, usually they don't mean anything good; but actually when I am standing here and saying it it can be a good thing. Winning an award truly is very hard, thank you very much to producer Chung Shu Kai for asking me to make this series. Thank you for running for this character Sister Man, and for working with a group of good actors Ma Kwok Ming, (Selena) Lee Sze Wa, Ko Hoi Ning, (Matthew) Ho Kwong Pui, (Regina) Ho Yee Ting. You have given a good memory to me. I hope to be able to run into even better characters, better shows, so everyone would be able to come home and binge series. Also thank you Mommy, she takes care of me." Then host Ting Chi Long whistled at Ah Sheh to introduced "Best Drama" award guest presenter Julian Cheung Chi Lam and her RETURN OF THE CUCKOO co-star. They first hug, then Ah Sheh left the stage. Cheung Chi Lam was also quite a gentleman and helped Ah Sheh off the stage.

Becoming the three time television Best Actress, Ah Sheh said that it was a surprise to her as well. She would cherish it very much and be very grateful. The happiest for her was that the series also won awards, and it was a very memorable evening. Speaking of Raymond Lam Fung and Julian Cheung Chi Lam also becoming gues presenters, she said that before hand she did not know either. The two of them, Bowie and Tavia Yeung Hiu Sin were all colleagues she has worked with, brought back many past series production memories. This evening to her was rather meaningful. Starting with Ko Hoi Ning's victory she already started getting teary eyed. She also hoped that she and Bosco Wong Chung Chak would have the chance to work on a series together.

Last night's award show host was the rising young actor Karl Ting Chi Long. The first award of the evening was "Best Supporting Actress", which went to Samantha Ko Hoi Ning for THE QUEEN OF NEWS. Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Philip Keung Ho Man present the award to her. Winning her first award in her 15 year career Ko Ling was crying tears of joy. In the audience Sheh Si man also shed happy tears for her good co-star.

The "Best Supporting Actor" went to MISSION RUN (YUN YING JIN DUI)'s Jazz Lam Tsz Sin. Already in tears before reaching the stage, he even bowed on his knees once the stage. Then he said, "Actually I really don't like to cry, the bow before was for my parents because my parents brought me into this world. Otherwise there wouldn't be Lam Tsz Sin. Actually I wanted to win 'Leaping' because winning 'Leaping' I could win another "Supporting Actor', but not now. I want to thank the executives who voted for me. I believe in the Heaven for a lot of things, when you work hard you still need people to coordinate with you. After I came into TVB many people have loved me. I am not TVB's own, but I have treated like my home. I am bleeding TVB blood! Thank you for bringing me into the business, (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi. When I was the most unemployed, Tsang Chi Wai brought me back into the film industry."

After 18 years in the business Mark Ma Kwun Tung won "Leaping Improvement Male Artist". "18 years aren't a short time, when I got into the business I already knew this actor road wouldn't be smooth sailing, wouldn't be easy to take. Because when I came out of the training class, Sister Chun (Tsang Lai Chun) chatted with me. She told me about many shortcomings and flaws that she wanted me to fix, to keep learning. After learning them I would have another chance. I then worked very hard on keep changing myself, keep learning hard." Mak Kwun Tung said, "I have learned that each chance would have to be properly grasped, don't waste any single opportunity or any person who has given me a chance."

Nominated for the Leaping Improvement Female Artist for the four year in a row, Tiffany Lau Wing Suen with the sexy fighter in MISSION RUN finally won this year. She wept tears of joy on the stage and thanked producer Jazz Boon (Man Wai Hung) for giving her a lot of opportunities to perform.

Jarvis Chow Yik Wai and Mayanne Mak Mei Yan won "Best Male and Female host" and both were rather emotional. Chow Yik Wai said over the years he has been called someone without shape, appearance, stage presence, he wanted to say to those who has questioned him before, "Don't let people's impression of you limit your own impression of yourself." Mak Mei Yan was teary eyed, saying that she was TVB reared and raised, her award was due to many who motivated her behind the scenes.

Newly added this year, the Greater Bay Area awards invited Gallen Lo (Law Ka Leung) and Bowe Lam Bo Yi to be their guest presenters. The "Greater Bay Area Favorite TVB Drama" went to the favorite THE QUEEN OF NEWS. "Greater Bay Area Favorite TVB Actor" went to MISSION RUN's Bosco Wong Chung Chak, "Greater Bay Area Favorite TVB Actress" went to THE QUEEN OF NEWS' Sheh Si Man, "Greater Bay Area Favorite TVB Variety and Informational Program" went to SUPER TRIO SPECIALS. In addition "Malaysia Favorite TVB Actor" was Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming, "Malaysia Favorite TVB Actress" was Sheh Si Man, "Malaysia Favorite TVB Variety and Informational Program was LOKYI IN THE WILD.

Receiving strong support, Gigi Yim Ming Hay with the series THE QUEEN OF NEWS' theme song won her first Best Television Song. Gigi was also one of the five "Most Potential New Comers". The other four were Yumi Chung Yau Mei, Kelly Gu Pui Ling, Kayan Yau and Archie Sin Ching Fung.

TVB Co. Ltd. assistant general manager Keith Yuen Chi Wai received the TVB Anniversary Honorary Award. Yuen Chi Wai has been in the news business for 47 years, from reporters to News Department Chief Producer to assistant general manager. For decades the news business withstood its share of pressure. He thanked TVB management for never interfering with the news department's work. The rarest was that he passionately loved the news, as he only worked one job in his life. More than loyal to TVB, his professional spirit was truly admirable.

Malaysian goddess Lin Minchen with elder Wu Fung presented Malaysia Favorite TVB Actor, Actress and Drama awards. They had quite a comedic effect. Lin Minchen's Cantonese even cracked up everyone. She kept saying "Ket Sup (drama ten)" instead of "(ket Jap) series", and made THE INVISIBLES' Chinese title into YUN YING JIN JUI (INVISIBLE WAR MOUTH). With her sweet smile and cute trademark poses throughout, she brought a lot of joy to the tense award show.
