The Johnnie To Kei Fung film DRUG WAR (DUK JIN) earlier shot in Tianjin for two months, as hunks Louis Koo Tin Lok, Sun Honglei and Eddie Cheung Siu Fai worked on the film. Goo Jai played a drug lord with a drug factory. Before the production he did a full research to grasp the character. Sun Honglei played a cop who had to take drugs and hide drugs inside his body to go undercover for evidence against the drug lords; in one scene he had to release the drugs in the bathroom. The scene was difficult from him because he had to pretend to go in front of everyone. At the time he felt embarrassed and almost really had to go. The film had many highway chase scenes. To Kei Fung said that he felt very helpless when he worked with Mainland workers. When he thought that the cars were prepared and began the shoot, he realized that the drivers were missing.
