The Stephen Chow Sing Chi starred film SHAOLIN SOCCER became widely popular after its 2001 release and one of his classic films. Earlier he announced online that he would start production on WOMEN'S SOCCER (formerly SHAOLIN WOMEN'S SOCCER) and held an open recruitment for actors. He even asked for "different nationality, young and beautiful, in good shape, smart and outstanding physical abilities" and received many offers from female stars. Earlier the team went to Taiwan to hold a recruitment press conference.

Making a women's soccer film would of course require a strong cast. Aside from recruitment, Chow Sing Chi actually had his eyes on two powerful additions; one recommended herself to him on social media last year -- the former China women's national soccer team goalie Zhao Lina. She competed in the Olympic and the Asian Games, and the 2022 Women's Soccer Asia Cup championship. She retired 4 years ago. Due to her brilliant appearance and tall stature, she was invited to participate in the Mainland hit program RIDE THE WIND 2023 and has been called "the most beautiful goalie" and "counterfeit Joey Wang". The other was the current China women's national soccer team's Lee Jiayue, a national team pillar. Not only publicly recognized for her ball skills, her appearance was rather decent as well.

Zhao Lina and Li Jiayue earlier came to Hong Kong to meet with Chow Sing Chi. Everyone clicked right away and confirmed their addition to WOMEN'S SOCCER! Chow Sing Chi last night posted their photo. Chow Sing Chi showed his playful side in the photos. In one he lightly shook Zhao Lina's hand in a quite gentlemanly way; in another he was in a pose off with the fit Li Jiayue! Chow Sing Chi has always been highly demanding of actors, the addition of two strong stars would absolutely be mutually beneficial. No wonder he was in great spirit!
