Taiwan's well-known writer Chiung Yao was found dead at home yesterday afternoon at the age of 86. In her final letter she wrote, "I am in charge of my final event of my life, don't be sad over my death!" Chiung Yao's works have been adapted into movies or TV series, among the most famous were DREAM LINKS and ROMANCE IN THE RAIN. Chiung Yao's masterpiece MY FAIR PRINCESS trilogy has made many of the leading actors popular. Alec Su Youpeng, who played the "fifth elder brother" Yongqi in the MY FAIR PRINCESS series and also performed in ROMANCE IN THE RAIN, was fortunate to be a character under Chiung Yao's pen. He posted a message to mourn his teacher, saying, "Now you have returned 'flutteringly', leaving behind an eternal treasure of the times."
The MY FAIR PRINCESS trilogy was still unforgettable, and after it was broadcast in 1998 it became popular not only in the Chinese region, but also in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. In Hong Kong that year, ATV purchased and broadcasted the series, and the ratings once broke the habitual rating of TVB and became a good story.
Su Youpeng, who has starred in Chiung Yao's TV series MY FAIR PRINCESS and ROMANCE IN THE RAIN, posted on Weibo yesterday that Chiung Yao once said, "I am like a spark, burning with enthusiasm, one day I too will become a snowflake, falling quietly" Su Youpeng said, "Now you have returned 'fluttering', leaving behind the eternal treasures of the times." He said that he was lucky to be a character under Chiung Yao's pen. He said, "Everything of FAIR and ROMANCE will leave an eternal mark on my life, thank you!" Finally he wrote, "May Auntie be chic and fluttering on the journey!"
Su Youpeng was invited to attend the Qiong Yao Collection Retrospective Exhibition in September this year. He said that Chiung Yao was a respectable creator who has left a strong stroke in the world of literature and drama. He was very honored to have the opportunity to participate and become a character in it. He said, "Ms. Chiung Yao's art world was a vast and wonderful world!" He believes that words and film and television have given each era an imagination that transcended time and space, and in Chiung Yao's work, "Life is poetic, all things are alive, and every minute and second of love and pain are beautiful."
Ruby Lin became popular with the role of "Ziwei" in MY FAIR PRINCESS. When she participated in the reality show earlier, she revealed that she was almost recasted at first. "At that time I was crying and begging Aunt Chiung Yao not to replace me." Ruby Lin originally wanted to play the Tibetan princess Saiya, but there was a problem with the actor's schedule last minute. The crew found that Ruby Lin and Ziwei were in line with the image when they were ordered, so they sent Zhao Wei, who originally played Ziwei, to play Little Swallow. Hence came Ruby Lin's interpretation of Ziwei. Later Ruby Lin had the opportunity to participate in ROMANCE IN THE RAIN and joined Chiung Yao's management company for 10 years, and she had a deep relationship with Chiung Yao. Ruby has always been grateful to Chiung Yao for her cultivation, and she is very touched by the good relationship with her teacher. According to Taiwanese media that have come into contact with Ruby herself, Ruby once got so choked up that she was unable to speak, because Chiung Yao was the first benefactor in her life. Every year on Chiung Yao's birthday, she would send flowers to her mentor to celebrate; and she would definitely call to wish her Happy New Year. Ruby also revealed that she once brought her husband Huo Jianhua and daughter "Little Dolphin" to pay Chiung Yao a New Year visit. Ruby also told Taiwan media reporters through her manager, "It happened too suddenly, I am still sorting out my emotions. I can't respond."
The actors who played the role of "Little Swallow" in MY FAIR PRINCESS also expressed their grief. Vicki Zhao Wei, Huang Yi, Li Sheng all starred in different versions of "Little Swallow" and posted messages on their respective social accounts to mourn Chiung Yao. Zhao Wei returned to social medai after 3 years and said, "The rolling Yangtze River fades east, the waves sweep away the heroes. Right or wrong, success or failure turns empty. The green mountains remain, and the sunset red several times over."
Huang Yi said, "I will always miss you, and I will move forward bravely with the love and strength you have given me. I am fortunate to be with you in the red dust in this life, and live a vigorous and chic life. At this moment you flitter away, I will miss you forever."
Li Sheng said, "I still can't believe it, it's too late to say goodbye. It was you who pulled me out of the mud, gave me the shock of love. Now you also gave me the education of death, but I can no longer tell you what you gave me. I'm your spark, but I'm just a little ember. I can't be so detached yet, I miss you so much......"
"Gold Lock" Fan Bingbing posted, "Burning passionately, fluttering away. Thank you for once igniting me, may you always be joyful in Heaven."
Huang Xiaoming, who made MY FAIR PRINCESS 3, also posted on Weibo yesterday and said that he was very heartbroken to hear the news. "I think of the time when I was filming MY FAIR PRINCESS 3, Aunt Chiung Yao was always encouraging us, guiding us, warming us, and telling us to live a chic life. Those beautiful pictures seemed like they were just yesterday." Then he was moved to say, "You have taught us how to love, how to cherish, how to face the challenges and difficulties in life, may you rest in heaven."
Huang Xiaoming further wrote the words that Chiung Yao left behind, "The beauty of life lies in being able to love, laugh, hate, cry, sing, speak, run, move, be accompanied by red dust, live chicly, be cynical, and live passionately", the text were full of remembrance.
The 2011 NEW MY FAIR PRINCESS was adapted from the 1998 MY FAIR PRINCESS trilogy, Zhao Liying began to emerge as "Qing'er" in the series. She posted after learning of Chiung Yao's bad news, "We say goodbye in the season of falling snowflakes and meet again in the words and sentences of your writings. May you always 'flutter' wherever you are".
In addition, Julien Chen Zhipeng, who played Ertai in MY FAIR PRINCESS, said: "Thank you for choosing me to be 'Ertai' many years ago, so that more friends would get to know me." Actor Madina Memet, who played Concubine Xiang in NEW MY FAIR PRINCESS and played Beth in FLOWERS IN FOG, posted: "From Concubine Xiang to Beth, Aunt Chiung Yao was the one who gave me this opportunity."
Wang Lin, who played Aunt Xue in ROMANCE IN THE RAIN, said, "I was shocked to hear the bad news, and I am very sad! The name Chiung Yao has accompanied my youth, weaving my ignorance and yearning for love. Because of Ms. Chiung Yao, because of ROMANCE IN THE RAIN, today's Aunt Xue has been achieved."
Bao Jianfeng, who played Chu Lian in DREAMS LINK, said, "Aunt Chiung Yao flew away; the dream builder danced and flew to the Milky Way, and the romantic flowers in heaven bloomed. Goodbye, a dream."
In addition, Best Actress Brigitten Lin (Lam Ching Ha)'s first film OUTSIDE THE WINDOW was an adaptation of Chiung Yao's first novel of the same name. She said, "Sister Chiung Yao was very much in favor of euthanasia before her death. She was a strong woman. In the end, she gave herself peace." She also revealed that months ago they talked over the phone, but last month when she returned to Taipei they were unable to meet. "I am truly regretful, extremely regretful."
Originally name "Chen Zhe", Chiung Yao has been chic and dashing all her life, but at 1:22 pm yesterday, it was reported that she committed suicide in her apartment in Tamsui District, Taiwan. After the ambulance personnel arrived at the scene, they found that she had no breathing and heartbeat, and at age 86 she bid farewell to the mortal world. Chiung Yao's 63-year-old son said that his mother left a suicide note and told the secretary to check on the home at noon. After entering she found her in the house and reported the case; Allegedly Chiung Yao, who lived alone, has notified her family to come to visit. When her family arrived, she had already committed suicide. Her body has been sent to Taipei No. 2 Funeral Home, and her son would handle the funeral.
Chiung Yao's suicide note was published on social media networks yesterday afternoon, explaining word by word, "Don't cry, don't be sad, don't feel sorry for me. I have already 'fluttered' away! 'Flutter' is my favorite word, representing the "flying" of "autonomy, uninhibited, freedom", beautiful and "light". I shook off the mortal coil that gradually made me miserable, "fluttering" and turning into snowflakes and flew away! This is my wish." She also said in her last short video before her death that this was her final choice. In fact, she had already explained the funeral arrangements on social media networks as early as 2017, stating that she would never undergo major surgery when she was seriously ill, not to be sent to the intensive care unit, not to insert any life-support tubes, to refuse first aid measures, and not to have any religious mourning after death, not to publish obituaries, no public funeral, and to quickly cremate and then returned to earth in a floral burial.
Known as the "godmother of love", Chiung Yao had a wonderful love path, and had 3 relationships in her life that people were more familiar with. When she was young, she was in love with the like-minded Chinese language teacher Jiang Renpu, but broke up after being discovered by her parents. Later she met her first husband Ma Senqing (Qingyun), but the man's family was poor so her mother objected. She insisted on getting married, but unfortunately it was difficult to meet the reality in the end, and the marriage only lasted 5 years.
Chiung Yao's most talked about relationship was with Ping Hsin-tao, the head of the publishing house. Some claimed that he was married at the time, but Chiung Yao fell in love with him at first sight. She did not hesitate to be his mistress for 8 years, until he was divorced then they officially married. Ping Hsin-tao died of illness in 2019. When Chiung Yao explained the instructions of her deceased husband before his death, she said that there was no need for memorial and public services. He left in the most free and easy way, which was consistent with Chiung Yao's attitude towards death in her suicide note. Her last social network post before her death was to remember Ping Hsin-tao 7 days ago. She paired it with the song "Why Not Return", which was coincidentally composed by Liu Jiachang, who died of illness a few days ago.
Chiung Yao has written countless books in her life. In 1976, she established Superstar Film Company with Ping Hsin-tao to adapt her works into movies. The first shot CLOUD OF ROMANCE was well received; in the 90s, she filmed dramas such as GREEN GREEN GRASS BY THE RIVER and THE BRANDING OF PLUM and created countless ratings stories.
