In the past two years, the "Hong Kong Cinema Day" has received enthusiastic support from the Hong Kong public, attracting more than 200,000 people to watch movies at cinemas every year and setting a number of record attendance. This year the Hong Kong Theaters Association (HKTA) has joined hands with a number of members to organize the "Hong Kong Cinema Day" for the third consecutive year, once again launching an unprecedented offer to encourage audiences to experience the promotional methods that cinema chains provided, and continuing to encourage the public to actively use "going to the cinema" as a daily entertainment. The Film Development Fund and the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office would fund this event, which would be one of the programs in response to the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2025.

"Hong Kong Cinema Day 2025" will be held on May 10th, with a flat ticket price of HK$30 for all 53 cinemas in Hong Kong (if the first concessionary ticket price for the elderly is less than $30, it will remain unchanged). The audiences could enjoy any kind of film screening at any cinema in Hong Kong at a reduced price of $30. More than 70 films would be expected to be screened at that time, including new films such as THE DUMPING QUEEN, VITAL SIGN (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG), THE THUNDERBOLTS*, A GILDED GAME, LAST BREATH, HOLY NIGHT: DEMON HUNTERS and other new films. Yesterday's press conference was attended by the Chairman of the Hong Kong Theaters Association, Mr Timothy Yuen Yan Man, the Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Vivan Sum Fong- kwang, the event ambassador Michelle Wai Sze Nga and representatives of major member associations. Artists have also made appeal videos that were shown in support of the event.

Wai Sze Nga said that she had formed an unbreakable bond with movies. The first time she went to interview for a job was at the age of 18 at the Tsim Sha Tsui Ocean Cinema, and the monthly salary of the cinema staff was about HK$ six or seven thousand. "I still remember the scene at that time. I really wanted to be a 'scoop' popcorn and an usher in the show so I could watch the show for free, but unfortunately I wasn't hired in the end. Later I went to work as a lifeguard." She also appealed to the public to remember that tickets for the Hong Kong Cinema Day on May 10th will go on sale at the box office of major cinemas and online ticketing websites after 12 noon on May 7th. However, she said sentimentally, "The film industry has had a mix of joys and sorrows in the past year, with two films THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) and TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) both breaking 100 million at the box office. That's the happy part, but many theaters have also closed one after another. I hope everyone will support the film industry, buy more tickets and go to support the cinemas, so that the film industry would prosper! Ultimately the feeling of watching a movie at the theater is very different." As the ambassador of the event, Wai Sze Nga would also personally give away popcorn to the general public on the vehicle on May 10th. She said with a smile, "I can finally fulfill my wish, and 'scoop' popcorn for everyone!"

Would Wai Sze Nga join her husband at the movies to support the Hong Kong Cinema Day? She said that it would depend on whether she could succeed in snatching tickets, but a few days ago she and her husband already went to watch the extended version of THE LAST DANCE. She did not expect that her husband would be moved to tears after watching it three or four times already. "Actually he is so sensible, I too am very surprised that he would cry. Mainly the movie involves family and in addition I perform in it, he was even more able to get into it."

The Hong Kong Film Awards this year would take place Sunday. Michelle with LAST has been nominated for Best Actress. She already had several dresses in mind, one of which was cut low to the belly button. However none has been confirmed. In addition, she would bring her spouse. Speaking of choosing what her husband would wear, she joked that hers was the eyes of men. She was not too sensitive about fashion differences, feeling that the most important was that the shoes would be comfortable. She also said that her husband would not be too nervous about his first time on the red carpet. Instead he has been looking forward to it very much, just like attending a party.
