In order to promote the culture of Hong Kong cinema and script reading, the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild launched six film script collections, and held "The Age of Screenplays -- Text -> Imagination -> Images" forum yesterday. The event invited actors Michael Hui Koon Man, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Tommy Chu Pak Hong and director Anselm Chan Mou Yin, screenwriters and others to attend and share the process of merging words and imagination to turn into image. Several actors even signed autographs on THE LAST DANCE film screenplay collection for on- site charity sale, and all proceeds after expenses would be donated to the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild. Director Chan revealed yesterday that he was immersed in writing a new script, hoping that the original cast of THE LAST DANCE would perform it; the actors were happy and looked forward to it.
The Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild has launched six film script collections, including A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG), THE LAST DANCE, MAD FATE (MING ONG), ROB N ROLL (LUM SI GIP ONG), TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) and CESIUM FALLOUT (FUN SING). Footage from the movies played at the theater yesterday was also integrated into the script text, so that the audience would double their enjoyment. Director Chan Mou Yin even made special arrangements to show a series of confidential footage that was not even added to THE LAST DANCE extended version, including a scene that was cut between Wai Sze Nga and Chu Pak Hong. When some viewers watched the scene in which Rachel Leung Yung Ting bid farewell to their departed loved one at the funeral parlor, they took out tissues as they cried.
THE LAST DANCING began its preview screening since October last year, and was about to celebrate its first anniversary and still causing widespread discussion. Director Chan Mou Yin said with a smile that he did not want this to be the end, because this film that could represent Hong Kong so much should last forever. He was even more grateful that there are still audiences who are deeply moved by the movie and love this work. Hui Koon Man revealed that he was also patiently waiting for Director Chan to write a new script. "I only listened to him say a few words, and they are already very strong. I didn't dare to disturb him. His ideas are not simple, he meets the requirements of a modern director; careful and sensitive, he makes movies that haven't been made before and are suitable for the audience to watch. Screenwriting and directing work seem to be very easy, but actually they are harder than making an atom bomb. With only a hundred movies only two or three are hits, but seeing so many young people on the set, I feel Hong Kong still has quite a future. As long as everyone focuses a little, film of the future would be completely different." Hui Koon Man said that he was thinking that the times have changed. He thought that there was no successor to the screenwriters and directors, but he has seen that today's young people are very promising. He has not been able to write a script in the past 20 years, so he hoped to write a popular blockbuster movie script that the audience would find interesting in his lifetime. Hui Koon Man laughed and pointed out that he recently took inspiration from US President Trump. "I don't know how many years I have left in my life. If I am still alive, my dream is to make a movie that is a popular blockbuster. Viewers after watching it would feel it's interesting, their mood would be better and feel tomorrow would be even better. I want to design a comedy character like Trump. He is the character that would best represent the times. A person who is a little evil but not all evil, great on the surface but makes no sense. When someone like this leads the whole world it is interesting. Without knowing whether he is a hero or a villain, the whole thing is very comedic."
"Playing him for comedy is exactly right, then inspiration starts to come. If in the future I still would play a comedy, I hope to have a shade of him -- between seemingly very powerful and total nonsense. This feeling doesn't come around all the time. I have to respect this feeling. Maybe if you ask me three years later, I wouldn't have any interest in shooting Trump. It's exactly because at this time I see how false and terrifying the general trend of the world has become, this fox is truly beyond any compare."
Chan Mou Yin said that actually he has been really immersed in writing a new script. He would immediately give it to Hui Koon Man to look over as soon as he finishes writing, but he could not disclose the subject for the time being. He could only say that there will be humorous comedy elements. He also hoped that the original cast of THE LAST DANCE would perform it. Wai Sze Nga expressed her joy and expectation after hearing this. After learning that Director Chan has begun to write scripts in retreat, she did not dare to rush him. Hui Koon Man also laughed and said that he has not been out in the world for a long time, but when he saw actors with good acting skills such as Wai Sze Nga and Leung Yung Ting he could not help but admire them. "Their acting is no joke, I am full of hope for Hong Kong movies!"
Wai Sze Nga recently filmed a food program on her own online channel. She tripped on her shoelaces and was injured in the middle, causing her right knee to become inflamed and her buttocks bruised. She grimaced and said, "Now my waist still hurts a lot, and my kneecap is bruised. The wound would burst open with any movement. I can only rely on taking antibiotics." In addition, speaking of her husband Chau Chee On's muscle symptoms from an accident two years ago and the complications of infection and inflammation after the operation. Wai Sze Nga said that her husband will have another operation near the tailbone at the end of the month, hoping that everything will go well. As for former co-star Or Wai Lam's cancer diagnosis, she was also very heartbroken when she learned about it and consoled him. However she knew that he was a big kid who was very optimistic and always full of positive energy.
Chu Pak Hong and Leung Yung Ting both hoped to work on a new film with the original cast of THE LAST DANCE, and yesterday there were still audiences who were moved to tears when they watched Leung Yung Ting's parting performance. Chu Pak Hong laughed and pointed out that this was the magic of Leung Yung Ting, Leung Yung Ting humbly said, "It is the magic of the movie, no matter the issue at the box office, the movie can connect with the audience and heal everyone's wounds."
Speaking of the company's Will Or Wai Lam being treated for cancer, Leung Yung Ting said that she has learned about this early on. "He said on IG that he would work hard to treat the disease, my colleagues and I supported him with love and told him 'I love you'!" Has he stopped working now? Leung Yung Ting said that she understood that the actor would want to do what he likes, and believed that he was following the doctor's instructions. As for Chu Pak Hong he has also worked with Or Wai Lam, and also sent a text message to console him. "I hope to give him space, in short my door has been open for him for a long time. We can talk if he wants to talk. His body has a big load that needs to be reorganized, so I hope he stays lively, rests and recuperates!" Regarding some online accusing Or Wai Lam of exaggerating his condition to win awards, Leung Yung Ting admitted that she never read online messages and felt that she could not control what other people would say. Chu Pak Hong said, "I heard and I just laughed it off, but I don't need to respond. Life is connected, and my peers will know!"
