The Frederick Ma Si Heng hosted, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui narrated ViuTV's new program THE SPIRIT OF THE LION ROCK FRED MA premiered last night, inviting 10 guests closely related to Hong Kong to share their stories of perseverance and the "Spirit of Lion Rock" in their minds. The guest of the first episode, Michael Hui Koon Man, recalled his childhood experience of poverty. He said that the hard life inspired his creativity and made him achieve classic works that became popular in Asia back then. He mentioned that his parents lived in poverty and even ate tree bark to satisfy their hunger, which made him develop the idea of "being willing to do anything for two meals" since he was a child.

Hui Koon Man said that his parents strongly opposed his entry into the entertainment industry and believed that this path had no future. However he inherited his parents' love for acting and singing. Although he did not receive support from his family, he was determined to follow his dream and audition for a TV station, where he was appreciated for his eloquence and served as a program host. With the popularity of the show, Hui Koon Man got more opportunities to develop his film and singing career, and quickly became popular. Hui Koon Man believed that the film industry should break the old and create the new, with THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK) as an example. He pointed out that the Hong Kong film market still had potential, and audiences have been waiting for high-quality works to be released. He described the film industry as an ice age, but as long as we adhere to Hong Kong's Lion Rock spirit, we could strive for self-improvement in the face of adversity and return to the glory days of the past.
