The Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Sean Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) and Gao Yuanyuan starred, Juno Mak Chun Lung written and directed movie SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) will be released simultaneously in China and Hong Kong today (October 1st). SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT cost HK$ 400 million to make. From preparation, filming to release the movie took more than 10 years. After the production wrapped up in 2017 but the movie has not been scheduled for release, even Leung Ka Fai once wondered, "Do they want to wait until I die to release it?" Finally it was arranged to be released on National Day, when there would be a half- price discount for watching movies. However the movie release has been surprisingly low-key, without any premiere ceremony or even audience appreciation activities to generate buzz. Only preview screenings were arranged. It led to SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT's action director Xiong Xinxin to complain, "The works of a psychopath are not worth looking forward to."

Xiong Xinxin is an action actor and action director, and is widely known to the audience for his role in the movie series ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA (WONG FEI HUNG), "Ghost Foot Seven". He and his wife Carrie Choy Ka Lee live in the UK, and a few days ago he forwarded a photo of his friends watching the preview screening of SONS OF THE NEON LIGHTS on social platforms, commenting that "The work of a person who doesn't know how to respect others, a psychopath, even if we completed 90% of the action according to the spirit of the contract, is not worth looking forward to." He did not name who the "psychopath" was, nor did he mention why.

Reportedly Xiong Xinxin participated in SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT, and at the end credit of the film "Guest Action Director: Xiong Xinxin" could be seen. There is also another action director Tang Shui Wah. Regarding Xiong Xinxin's post mentioning that 90% of the action was completed according to the contract, according to people who participated in the film and watched the preview screenings, most of the Xiong Xinxin designed action scenes were retained; what upset him were differences of opinion and unpleasantness during the filming. The publicity staff of SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT had no comment.

Although SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT has not been promoted it still has been eye-catching, as its advanced sale reactions on the eve of the release have also attracted attention. The pre-sale status on WMOOV for SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS on National Day at 4 p.m. as of yesterday was a "leisurely green" with a large number of seats to choose from, only occasional shows saw "red". Despite the half price spectacular, no particular rush for tickets could be seen. However in the evening, the pre-sale box office of Emperor, Broadway and other theaters, some of the advanced shows of SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT had only a small number of tickets left, and some were sold out. Some online though pointed out an "abnormality" in the ticket sales situation, with the screenshot of the box office of Cyberport Cinema that still had empty seats in the back row; yet the first few rows of seats in many shows were sold out. They found it curious that people would buy the front row seats; unless they were audience appreciation shows when fans could see in the front row to be closer to the audience appreciation team.

SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS has also been the focus of the topic from the start of filming to its release. In addition to the strong cast of actors, its huge production cost has also attracted attention. The story tells the story of a sudden explosion that kills a wealthy businessman in Hong Kong, leading to a struggle between drug traffickers and anti-drug activists. The heir of the wealthy businessman does whatever it takes to create social chaos, starting a war between good and evil for the best reason of "a drug-free world". An actual set of Causeway Bay was constructed to bring about "Hong Kong in the snow", as well as a scene of a river of blood.

SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT was selected for the midnight screening section of the Cannes Film Festival this year, as well as the "58th Sitges International Fantasy Film Festival" and the "Gala Selection" section of the Tokyo International Film Festival. However the film received mediocre reviews after its Cannes premiere, with some describing it as "excellent but incoherent" while others pointed out that "the star actors and visuals are impressive, but the narrative is not satisfactory. The ins and outs of the characters and plot are confusing."

Mak Chun Lung once responded to the negative film reviews, saying that comprehending the movie after watching it just once would be very difficult for the audience. He said, "I spent 10 years on making this movie. If the audience can fully understand it after watching it once, then the contrast is too great. A piece of art would grow with the audience's experiences over time, at different times they would have different experiences." The Cannes version is 2 hours and 12 minutes, and now the Hong Kong version is 2 hours and 05 minutes, which is 7 minutes less. Some online said that they knew that they were "entrapped", but they would definitely support Takeshi Kaneshiro.

In addition, after nearly two weeks in release GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN) has a good word of mouth, but due to the small number of shows the box office only received about HK$ 940,000 as of September 29th. Suffering from lung adenocarcinoma, Will Or Wai Lam cheered for his film GOOD GAME on social platforms. "Every movie has a life, and the life of GOOD GAME is not to admit defeat, it is persistence. I saw a comment on Threads, 'I really like the mixed card army to challenge the strong, step by step it made a comeback. The feeling is very passionate and simple.' I am too, both in and outside the film. All along, I will play when I have a ball. I will play ball when it is in my favorite, I will play ball in adversity; in short, I will play ball, and during the game I am even very devoted...... This time, the whole team wants to fight, the cast, the crew and even the audience want to fight. The whole thing is pretty passionate and great. Every audience member who shares GOOD GAME and invites a friend to go, I treat him as a comrade- in-arms, how romantic and shocking! The most important thing is that the movie is really good. Don't tell me to cheer up, just say to me, 'I bought a ticket to see GOOD GAME', I will be happier when I hear that."
