The Shaw Film 72 GA JO HAT (72 HOUSE RENTERS) salutes the classic film HOUSE OF 72 TENANTS (72 GA FONG HAT). Yesterday it held a production start ceremony at Television City. The cast was strong. Aside from Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and Anita Yuen Wing Yi as the leads who will with producer, director and actor Eric Tsang Chi Wai have a love triangle, TVB actors and actresses flooded in.
Yesterday the cast gathered on TVB's Costume Street as most actors appeared in nostalgic look. They included Cheung Hok Yau, Wong Cho Nam, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, David Lo Dai Wai, Cheng Yun Yi, Joyce Tung Lai Ming, Joe Ma Tak Chung, Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Chin Kar Lok, Bernice Liu Bik Yi and others. Other actors included Raymond Lam Fung, Linda Chung Ka Yun, Lawrence Ng Kai Wa, Cho Wing Lim and others. Among then Yun Yi's imitation of Fei Jeh's "Shanghai Lady" was the most convincing. Landlady Sheh Si Man was rather sexy. During the group photo she even lay on the car in a funny manner.
Chi Wai this time was the director, producer and actor. He said that at first when he asked Hok Yau, he wanted to turn it down. Later after numerous persuasion and the film shooting in Hong Kong, Hok Yau finally agreed. Chi Wai joked that Hok Yau looked straight laced but actually he was quite cheap, very similar to the little person character in the film.
Hok Yau said that this time TVB was very smart to get Chi Wai to be the producer as he has never seen Chi Wai so diligent and responsible. Reportedly when Francis Ng Chun Yu and Anthony Wong Chau Sun charged a lot for TURNING POINT (LAUGHING GOR ji BIN JIT). Did Hok Yau do the same? He joked that he did not know about that, otherwise he definitely would have. He said that this price was from a long time ago. He joked, "Now even the U.S. dollar is losing value." Next year will have ten Lunar New Year film releases. Hok Yau expressed that he did not have any pressure because he was going at it for fun.
Sheh Si Man's landlady look yesterday was sexy and full figured. Was she imitating Dik Na? She expressed that she has never seen HOUSE OF 72 TENANTS. She joked that not only her figure was outstanding, the beauty mark on her face was also very outstanding. Imitating her mother Lydia Shum Din Ha as the Shanghai Lady, Yun Yi honestly said that she had mixed feelings about the role. She was happy and excited but also somewhat lost and uncertain. She honestly said wanted to call Mommy and tell her but she could not. She could only go home and tell her mother's photo. She pointed out that she still did not know whether this was good or not. Ultimately no one will be able to replace Mommy, she only hoped that the result will be good.
Speaking of her character, Len Len said that she and Hok Yau will play a couple, Wong Chung Chak and Chung Ka Yun their children. She joked that she was shocked to have such grown children and had to put some work into her costume. In the film she will have many different costumes. Earlier Chi Wai accompanied her to shop for costumes. she said that Chi Wai was not only a director, producer but also an art director. When she attended a costume fitting earlier, she realized that she looked just like her mother.
This film will be released in the next Lunar New Year. With ten Lunar New Year films, Len Len hoped to share the success with other films. She and Hok Yau worked together over a decade ago in DAYS OF BEING DUMB (AH FEI YU AH GEI). When Hok Yau saw her, he said that she was very different from back then when she was a new comer. Len Len joked, "People of course would become arrogant!"
In addition, Stephy Tang Lai Yun at another event mentioned that in the film she will play Tsang Chi Wai's daughter. She honestly said that when she got the script she went crazy because she had the chance to work with her idol Cheung Hok Yau. This time Chi Wai will co-direct with Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum), who was linked in gossips with her. Will she have even more screen time? She joked that if Chi Wai was around, Yip Lim Sum should have no say. She was not afraid of a small role, as she was willing to do anything to work with Hok Yau.
