The 10th New York Asian Film Festival presented its awards at the Lincoln Center on the 10th. Famous Hong Kong director Tsui Hark received the Asian Star Lifetime Achievement Award this year. Tsui Hark said that he was considering adapting TAKEOVER OF THE WEIHU MOUNTAIN for the big screen. Currently the script is being created.
This year's WU XIA: HONG KONG'S FLYING SWORDSMEN in New York Asian Film Festival will bring many exciting Hong Kong wu xia films to New York viewers. They will include Tsui Hark's DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK), BLADE (DOH), THE LEGEND OF ZU (SUN SHOOK SAN GIM HUP) and NEW DRAGON INN (SUN LUNG MOON HAT JANG).
Tsui Hark hoped that this "Lifetime Achievement Award" was only a summation of one of his stages as he will still bring even more excellent work to the audience. However he also humorously said, "I don't know if I would have another chance to receive this award."
Tsui Hark said that he is working on the FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP) post production, at the end of the year it will be released. Next he will plan the sequel to DETECTIVE DEE and the silver screen adaptation of the "Cultural Revolution" era Revolutionary Beijing Opera TAKEOVER OF WEIHU SHAN.
Tsui Hark said that in his youth he lived in "Cultural Revolution" Revolutionary Beijing Opera, thus he had certain understanding of the novel LIN HAI XUE YUAN. He also has been examining how to interpret this novel with art outside of Beijing Opera. he just bought the novel's right and currently has begun the script creation stage. Tsui Hark said that at this stage he makes movies to merge modern technology and the film industry even better so film can develop along with the times.
