Best Actors Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Gong Li, Feng Shaofeng,
Xiao Shenyang, Law Chung Him, Kelly Chen Wai Lam and Kris Phillips (Fei
Xiang) starred, Soi Cheang Po Shui directed 3D fantasy action comedy THE
MONKEY KING 2 (SAI YAU GEI ji SUEN NG HUNG SAM DA BAK GWUT JING) yesterday
released its first one minute trailer. In it the "strongest team of
Journey to the West" the master, disciples and Little White Dragon all
appeared. Sing Sing as the Monkey King was the biggest bright spot, with
blond hair, a variety of action and dominating language he displayed an
all new Sun Wukong image. White Bone Spirit Gong Li did not appear yet,
but in the final scene her hand suddenly appeared on Tang Monk Feng
Shaofeng's shoulder. Although Gong Li only "showed her hand" she did
enough to make viewers look forward to her performance.
For the Sun Wukong's fight against dragon and tiger, the team
hired a Korean special effect team. The 150 person team spent half a year,
just the model productions took 12 stages and cost over 10 million.
Director Cheang Po Shui said that this one minute trailer still has not
shown the film's most complicated and exciting scenes, just a small taste
for everyone. "This film's special effect production should be the
biggest investment in Chinese film so far." The film company reportedly
spent HK$ 450 million on the production, a part of the post production
special effects cost almost 250 million.
